This 1958 Chevy Impala Sport Coupe was covered in a garage for 40 years before the current owner was able to purchase it through a family member. He literally had to dig it out from under decades of junk. You will not be disappointed in this beautiful classic!

My brother who is 14 yrs. Older than me had a 58 impala awsome car i was about 8,9 yrs. Old he sold that to buy a 62 black on black corvette im 65 now but i remember those days like it was yesterday!!!!!

All 58s had dual headlights. This car is a "Bel Air" Impala. The first year, Impala was an upgraded Bel Air.

3 PIECE BUMPERS WERE ILLEGAL IN CA. THEY FIGURED THE WERE WEAK AND NOT STRONG ENOUGH, SO ALL 57s AND58s MADE IN CA. had 1 piece bumpers.

1958 was the first model year that dual headlights were legal in all 48 states. Consequently almost all cars had them.
We were going into a recession in late 1957 so that’s one reason they didn’t sell many Impalas.

Also the red part on the door panel was a reflector, not a light. The rear speaker was an option, not standard, there would have been a knob on the right side of dash like this one. The ‘59 had the big fins, by 61 the fins were gone. Also 1948 was a recession year, most car companies took a hit in 1958. And you also could have optioned a fuel injected 283
Thanks… I forget some of the odd Options of 58’s……a classmates *& Friend in HS, PARENTS had the 1958 Impala/ auto/348 X 3+2 s// Four Door (??), he never drove it much…..,, a big boat, oddly appealing ……remembering, no a/ c, NICE Browns, Colors…faintly remembering Power Antennae,Steerinf, PowerbWindiws(*??),etc…the Impala FLAGS ,TRIM looked nice * the BIG ENGINE.

I always liked the 58 better than the 57. The 57 seemed to be more popular, but not to me. But loved many of the 50's cars. 57 Ford was one of my favs.

The rumors about the 1959 & 60 gull wing fins on the Biscayne to impala Chevrolet full size vehicles, allegedly lifting the rear wheels off the ground at 80 plus mph is nothing more than an urban legend. Chevrolet and General Motors would never have been permitted to release such an uncontrollable aerodynamic anomaly to the public! I believe that rumor was started by rival companies like Ford or Chrysler, who still had their upright fins during that period.
In 1961, however, automobile manufacturers stopped using their attractive fins and chrome because of aerodynamics and weight reduction needed for speed increases in the cars they were using in Nascar.

I found a couple 58 Bel Air sedans for sale in 2017. 2 cars for $3k, One was complete and ran off auxilary tank the other had already gotten new floors and the body/frame was solid w/ no drivetrain. I frame off restored the better car and used all the parts from the complete car to finish it, I love the 58 body style. Even the 4 door looks good to me and it was more affordable to own for sure. I put a 68 396 BBC w/ 700 R4 in it.

In 1958 my dad purchased his first brand new car which was a 1958 Ford Fairlane 2dr hard top and years later he said he messed up and should have bought a 1958 Chevrolet Impala !

First model year they were legal in all 48 states.
They originally designed the 57 Plymouth Fury to have them because they anticipated that they would be legal but the law wasn’t changed in time so they look a little odd with the single headlights and the smaller parking lights where the other headlights would have gone.

@@chipsgarage Just heard from a friend in Florida ( i lived there from 2009 to 2014--long story ) that a big monthly cruise at Canal St in New Symrna Beach jusst got shut down ( and it was a great cruise ) because the stores and restaurants said "These car people come in an dont spend any money. and when they eat here they only leave a dollar tip on a 10 dollar meal." Welllllllllllll Would you rather have the summer break idiots or Bike Week Warriors? My friends told me WE were the enteertainment--they dont want us, we'll leave. Re: of the two small lights on the front of the car. One was a fake, for symmetry only. The other was a combination turn/parking light. There were no “running lights” lights on a 58 Chevy.

No, but one that has been stored in a garage for many, many years untouched and then rediscovered certainly is!
These guys are really foaming over this car but forgot that this styling was based on the M-B “Gull Wing”.
Nothing more irritating than two guys that that have knowledge and talk over one another to show how much they know, or think they know. Case in point on the passenger side rear the tear in the quarter panel sheet metal by the bumper. This damage was more common than most people think. If your car was bumped from behind or you backed into something , the rear bumper would be pushed into the quarter and tear the sheet metal then return to the original position. Ask me how I know? This is a great find and this car with a little work can be returned back to it's original glory.
@user-wv9zc7pc9s How do I know ? I owned a 1958 BelAir 2dr coup that was bumped in the rear at the local DRIVE IN one evening. The bumper moved forward and tore the sheetmetal then returned to the original position.

So much misinformation in this video. 1) The front turn signal/parking light was in the outboard location only. The inner lens was non-functional. 2) the wing windows had no power option. 3) the front seat shells are chromes steel; not stainless steel. 4) that red lens on the door is a reflector and not a light. 5) wires had been plastic-coated for years prior to 1958. "1000% original" despite having ass-ugly wheels replacing the hard-to-find original wheels.
