Saw the stage production last night and she was PHENOMENAL. Her vocals at the age of 24 were mind blowing. She really carried the entire show like she’s been doing this forever.
I had the privilege to be seated 12th row center at the Fabulous Fox Theatre when this production made its stop in Atlanta a few weeks ago. This closes the show and it was an electrifying, explosive experience. What a moment. What a talent.
I saw her in San Francisco... and let me tell you, Dorothy gets NO REST. Her songs are some fo the most vocally demanding of a lead I've seen in a long long time.Maybe not since Tina Turner role int he TT Musical. She is in the stratosphere 80% of the songs. And Ms. Lewis absolutely KILLS IT. Bravo future tony nominee!
Actually.. It's DIANA ROSS from the big theater motion picture The Wiz that made this song memorable... Go look at the movie clip on TH-cam of HOME from motion picture The Wiz by Diana Ross.. Nothing compares to Diana's version with either music or emotion
@@michaelgrant7322 I just had to comment. I saw the Wiz back in the 70"s with Stephanie Mills as Dorothy. She will always bring me to tears singing "Home". By the way, at 67 years of age, Stephanie Mills ends her concert with this song and still bring me to tears. P.S. , I just saw the revival of The Wiz on April 24, on Broadway. This version is great too!
@@michaelgrant7322it’s actually the lovely miss stephanie mills she was the original Dorothy on the wiz broadway in the 1970s before the movie came out
Woo wee. I expected the Stephanie Mills version. This young woman ate.that.song.up. I love how she made it her own. What vocal range. Her voice made my body shiver. #lookatgod
just saw this show wednesday night, and WOW. i was so impressed with the whole cast, the aesthetics of the entire show, and everything about it. i absolutely loved and enjoyed my time seeing this show. the entire cast was stacked with talent and triple threats, SO GOOD!!!
Wowowowowowowowowowowow. She is truly THE next star or Broadway! Tony award winning performance right here. She will CERTAINLY be getting a Tony Nomination.
This is a beautiful iconic rendition of this iconic song. I see why this young lady got the lead role to play the new Dorothy. She really makes it her own song. A very difficult thing to do for such a famous role.
I really like how everyone can sing this song in their own way. While Diana is my favorite, I like the runs Nichelle did on this song to suit her voice. I don’t like when people try to sound the same.
This performance was beautiful, but my favorite performance of this wonderful song #Home will always be #StephanieMills, & that's because her version of #Home is #PerfectionAtItsFinest & will always be that moment in my lifetime!!! 💜🌹💯 #TheWhiz #StephanieMills #Home #PerfectionAtItsFinest 💜🌹💯
I saw her the first night of Broadway previews. She FEASTED! The whole audience was NOT expecting it because they ERUPTED when the song ended. It was truly a pleasure.
We just saw The Wiz on Broadway today 7/31/24 and the young lady who played Dorothy was good but Stephanie Mills has such a unique, powerful voice and did something so special with this song that I can't get her version out of my head. I wanted to hear it sound just the way Stephanie sings it but it definitely didn't. Shame on me though because they're 2 different vocalists so they're not going to sound exactly the same. We still enjoyed ourselves. Overall the play was amazing!
Loved everything about this performance...but it seemed slightly rushed. Like the old timers used to say, "Take your time!" Otherwise...Ms. Lewis performance was immaculate! So technically sound, high quality, emotional, dramatic...accompaniment was perfect!
It’s interesting . If her voice is representative of the new black performers it’s interesting how it’s melded the “broadway” theater voice with the “gospel” sound. And no I am not attacking or denigrating her I just find it interesting that I’m hearing the broadway sound melding with the gospel sound in her voice. It’s a different kind of voice/sound. I find it fascinating
How can one question if there is a GOD⁉️ How cynical to think talent like this and in others is just by chance or of some random explosion. The Gift of Voice, Dance, Intelect, and ingenuity, are remarkable signs of an omniscient Being beyond our comprehension. Nechelle (& the rest of the cast present and prior) You are Blessed and we are further blessed to witness you SHINE 🙏 🌟🙏
@@ArtistsReceivingKnowledge they always do that with Black women. I never see them say that with white women "oh she's no Christina Aguilera" lol You never see that. I find White women are ALLOWED TO and are CELEBRATED in their differences.
@@Scoutbq1l Is Christina Aguilera considered white? Either way, white women singers get compared to each other just as much, if not more. Do you think Adele doesn't get compared to Amy Winehouse? The white girls get compared to black women too; e.g., Beyonce vs. Taylor Swift, Whitney vs. Celine Dion, etc.
Sorry, but I dont like this rendition. I want to hear the melody and the proper pacing and instrumentation. But I am still going to see the show and support as it is 1 of my faves.
Masterful performance. Perfect control of her instrument, and the use of different textures, phrasing and dynamics. Beautiful rendition.
I agree.
It’s brilliant. She makes it her own-distinct from Stephanie Mills legendary version-that is no small feat.
Saw the stage production last night and she was PHENOMENAL. Her vocals at the age of 24 were mind blowing. She really carried the entire show like she’s been doing this forever.
Such a fresh face and talent were being introduced to. Something in her vibe, voice and face reminds me of Naturi Naughton.
Can’t stand when people compare one artist to another. Each is unique in their own way.
Thought the exact same thing!
I got to see this production and it changed my life! Thanks for sharing your talents and gifts! ❤that goes to everyone on that team ❤
Just imagine hearing the full orchestra behind this wonderful voice! You definitely have to see it in person.
The first show I saw on Broadway. I still knew this song by heart. Nechelle kills it ❤
Me too! With Stephanie Mills as Dorothy. Good times!

Love Broadway!! I try and see 3 shows a year! My goal this year is to watch 6 or more shows, but they get a little expensive

Saw the show in Tempe. Every song had vocal moments that you usually get like, once in a Broadway show. Insane singing
This is the new definitive Dorothy!! Nichelle, you got this !!!!!!! You make me feel like I am journeying into the story that I grew up with!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

There's gonna be a soundtrack album of this version, right?
It’s called a Cast Recording. And probably.
Her beautiful face reminds me of Jennifer Hudson.
Stephanie Mills I know is overjoyed by her vocals
Still love Diana Ross' version of "Home!"
I feel like the music was too fast, most live versions of this song are a lot slower.
I love how Nichelle gives this song her own spin👏🏽didnt try to sound like Stephanie Mills or Diana Ross.

Classic case of OVERSINGING. This song is delicate and full of emotion. More acting, less runs, boo. What a waste!
A thousand times more delicate than Idina Menzel
What runs? Do you know what a run is? Her runs were subtle and infrequent.
