I never get tired of watching this drama again and again. I am addicted to watch dramas that has Shawn Dou in it. He never disappoints with his excellent acting skill.
What a beautiful story of patriotism, love, loyalty, and friendship. The ending is an open episode, makes me wonder if the author has a sequel. The characters and the actors who portray them are excellent, they had performed their roles beautifully. Thank you once again.

@@rakelscada5576 No, he didn’t know. Hangjing was about to tell him just before he went off to war. He wanted Hangjing to be safe by leaving the country; but he knew that she would not leave. So he drugged her during last night together and just when she was about to tell him, she fell asleep from the drug. When she woke up, she was already sailing to England. So he didn’t know. I wish the drama would end showing that Hangjing found him and introduce their son to Beicheng. It would’ve been so sweet.
last episodes have been so hard to watch 😭 really loved Xiao Beichen , he was always there for Lin Hangjin, always protecting her and caring for her ❤ hope they’ll be a season 2 so they can finally have a happy ending.
6 yrs and he hasn’t contacted her …. Sequel might have him remarried with a family. No I don’t want one. I like thinking that HOPE is still in their lives for a happy reunion that Is not so complicated. ❤

He wants to continue to fight for his country. Peace is when there isn't war. So by him contacting her it is useless and unproductive. 🙄 This damn series got so many stupid reasonings. But His character development was good but why ruin it with her looking for him? The ending showing her going looking for him is really stupid. Showing that she doesn't understand him. What the point of that? 😂
This is one of the most admired Chinese dramas I've ever seen. I watched a lot of Chinese dramas but did not cry so much. In fact, the story of the play and acting in my mind is overwhelmed.it's look like I'm feeling them closely looking them in real and there is no fake acting.
How about the "Old" drama w. Wallace Chung & Li Xiaoran "Too late to say I love you" a beautiful drama, I think it's at par w. this w. excellent drama w. performance of both Leads!

Best character developments: 1. Beichen from a typical privileged brat to a proud control freak man to a fully matured gentleman. Being a part of a benefiting generation of a pampered era built by tough men, he learned the hard way how to see things in a brighter light. For so long he kept latching to his title's power to get whatever he wanted but costed him the most important thing in his life- his marriage. In his character also reveals the thin line between idealism and reality. He grew up dispising war and his dad because of the death of his mother then went to resorting to it as the only way to keep the remaining lives. It shows the hypocrisy in human nature how being right is being despised when it is personally hurting us and when wrong is being honored when it benefits us 2. Shuyi developed slower than her brother because she lives in a well nurtured environment without mush sadness and pain felt by the majority but surely developed into a mature lady with the right passage of time. She represents women who may not be evil yet not the saint we idealize in being a woman. Most lovable characters: 1. Du heng a true sigma character who stands invincibly rock hard to his ground. He defines well between right and wrong and doesnt give a shit about opinions. With his solid principles, he builds his own powerhouse. He is a lone wolf. 2. Xiao father contrary to do heng in ways but similar in goals. Different in principles but same ideals. he is very sentimental yet righteous. for the sake of amity, he would break the law but not justice. 7th madam a character that yields the epitomy of kindness and grace we are blessed with to see in a few films and will give us heartbreak to see them go Most relatable character Zhizheng represents most or the average population who claim to support and fight for justice yet when given choice between personal matters and ideals, he would easily sell his ideals. Most idealistic character Hanging is woman who managed to get and keep her goals in the era of men. She equiped and enabled herself well to become useful and independent in a world where women are purposely kept incapable of competing against men. She also knew her priorities and was wise enough not to be swayed by emotions when in the process of achieving her goals. Soft as a woman but tough enough to stand still in her ground. She knows her worth and has the right amount of cruelness to put overbearing people in place.
It's really heartbreaking seen Doofu Xu, cunning Mo, instructor Du dead, Beichen is really a good leader and have good follower's, they know they will not win the battle but still struggle for their country,, but everyone perform their roles very well, thanks for the amazing drama and thanks to all the cast's 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
All my emotion falls when he did his last dance performance it makes me remember everything happened from the start.. I really love the story... I will remember every lesson I've learned from them... I love this so much... Hoping everyone to watch this...

A beautiful Drama about Chinese-Japanese war! All actors portrayed their roles realistically esp. Shawn Duo, he's a great actor. There should be Season2 same casts! So Beichin &Hangjing will live happily ever after with their Children!

War is a bad thing, look at how all his family members, close friends and the Opera members all died. It hits home, war is bad. But, glad to see he survived with his immediate family and sister. Great story and acting.

Tq so much. I was in Peking 1960-1964 as my father was the Indonesian Ambassador for China. It was during Mao's reign n the Red Army. Really touching. I was also a fan of Opera Peking n my father showed his condoleces to the legendary Mei Lan Fang w foreign Minister Chen Yi (source Xin Hua). Aaa again am so touched by this film. Hi everyone loved this series, It's not like Hollywood, you have to use your imagination on what will happen next. Off course she will meet him and they will live happily ever after. He used to run after her, but this time she runs after him, now there relationship will last. One of the best series I watched this year. I also loved watching Legal wife a Filipino series and young lady and gentleman Korean drama. I'm satisfied.

Great drama! I had hoped the love between Beichen and Hangjing would flourish showing them together with Nangui in the last episode. It ended almost like a cliff hanger, so hopefully there will be a season 2. Superb acting by the entire cast. Hated to see it end!

This drama make me sad until now i try to convince my self this is just drama and forget it. Male leads and female lead didn’t even meet at last and the child the male lead supposed to meet his son. Thanks for this drama series, I completely viewing 43 episodes. But I thought Beichen and Hangjing reunites with their son, whom Beichen didn't know Hangjing is pregnant with his son. So far the actors nailed the roles they're portraying. Thank you very much.
A very nice drama with lots of action (history of Japan's invasion of China) all acted very well especially my favorite Shawn Dou. I hope in the end they meet & he gets to meet his son.
WOW! What a ride! since they leave us at such a cliffhanger I do hope they plan on making a second season of this. See the journey of Xioa Beichen and Lin Hangjin being reunited and Beichen getting to meet his son. Come to think of it, if they do a second season of it, it will probably similar to the story of Odysseus and Penelope, but that's just my imagination running. I don't know about you guys but I enjoyed the storyline.
It's really beautiful series I cry to the last part in battlefield even they know that they not going to win the battle they still tray to defend their country what a brave soldier they show loyalty and patriotism, even the end is open episode, think there's season 2 .

Absolutely best drama series, loved it let this be a lesson of what can happen if a nation is divided. every actor was excellent, great history lesson, everyday I can't help but think of this movie watch each episode at least 1 to 3 times. now what am I going do? I looked forward to watching this each day. well done actors choreographers, filmers and producers . Give this a 10.

Beautiful series. Many of the scenes were a characterization of the history, culture and patriotism that really happened during the war. It is heartbreaking to watch but the portrayal of the actors and actresses gave credit to the reality of life "in flames of war" as aptly titled. I commend the lead actor and actress and although the ending did not show us that they found each other, in our heart and mind, they did and continued to live the happy life as a family. This is what we should all 🙏 for. That despite all the atrocities that surround us, those who survive it will find comfort, happiness and blessings.
I am finally relieved that both of them changed themselves, now they have faith in each other and understand their responsibility towards each other. Just a few episodes before, I wish that both of them should not be together as they don't deserve each other . Both of them had their own bold personalities and priorities . But now both of them try their best to understand each other and are aware of their responsibilities . No need to mention, their intense love for each other. Both of them waited for each of for atleast 5 years. Now they know value of each other . I want them to be together for forever and want their child to have a complete home 🏡😊😊

A meaningful, beautiful, and interesting series. It revealed lots of values and showed the bond between a citizen and his motherland . The scenes of sacrifices and loyalty to the motherland are so touching especially in the last episodes. I learned alot. Who here after watching TTEOTM, Chen Du Liing was fantastic in this drama as Lin Hangjin. & her chemistry with Shawn Dou was emotional and a wake call up to reality of the war affecting their relationship. Hope there will be a sequel of this in production soon after playing 3 different characters in the latest drama hit.
I watched this series 2 days ago and I am completely STUNNED. It is such a beautiful well directed series and it completely blew me away. 1. How the war changes people. From the rich and sheltered became brave soldiers and commanders who fought for their country. From the innocent simple kite seller who yearns for a better government and future for the people became the traitor of the nation. How greed amongst the Chinese warlords destroys the National Revolutionary Army from within. 2. How uncertain is the future and that we should cherish all the things we love before they are gone. Parents, brothers, sisters, friends, lovers. One can never turn back time. Before you knew it, all those things are lost in time. Years wasted on hating one another and all those pride and misunderstandings. How unfortunate things are for people back in those days to never have a fleeting chance to reunite, reconcile and make amends. How innocent lives are destroyed. Children and older generations. 3. Whether big or small, our sacrifice matters. The sacrifice that the opera actors made in fighting against the Japanese army breaks my heart. Its just too painful too watch. A story that started off so perfectly…the perfect family, the perfect mansion, a beautiful dream for your country, a simple life, a simple wish, true love, hopes and dreams, day dreaming about those lavish lazy lives ahead, no obligations nor responsibilities…it all changes…the ending serves a contrast from the beginning…like spring and rough winters. The characters have my love and they are full of flaws. Mistakes were made, hurtful words were spoken, lovers drifted apart, but in the end, family stood by each other, friends shielded each other even from death, and lovers reunite and won’t let go..even for just a moment. Deepest sympathy to those who have lost their loved ones during the war💔 This series serves as a remembrance to never take the peace and love that we have in our lives for granted❤ Thank you to all those amazing actors who have awed me in their performances. 1. Du heng a true sigma character who stands invincibly rock hard to his ground. He defines well between right and wrong and doesnt give a shit about opinions. With his solid principles, he builds his own powerhouse. He is a lone wolf.
2. Xiao father contrary to do heng in ways but similar in goals. Different in principles but same ideals. he is very sentimental yet righteous. for the sake of amity, he would break the law but not justice.
7th madam a character that yields the epitomy of kindness and grace we are blessed with to see in a few films and will give us heartbreak to see them go

Zhizheng represents most or the average population who claim to support and fight for justice yet when given choice between personal matters and ideals, he would easily sell his ideals.
Most idealistic character
Hanging is woman who managed to get and keep her goals in the era of men. She equiped and enabled herself well to become useful and independent in a world where women are purposely kept incapable of competing against men. She also knew her priorities and was wise enough not to be swayed by emotions when in the process of achieving her goals. Soft as a woman but tough enough to stand still in her ground. She knows her worth and has the right amount of cruelness to put overbearing people in place.

I was also a fan of Opera Peking n my father showed his condoleces to the legendary Mei Lan Fang w foreign Minister Chen Yi (source Xin Hua). Aaa again am so touched by this film. He used to run after her, but this time she runs after him, now there relationship will last. One of the best series I watched this year. I also loved watching Legal wife a Filipino series and young lady and gentleman Korean drama. I'm satisfied.

Great drama! I had hoped the love between Beichen and Hangjing would flourish showing them together with Nangui in the last episode. It ended almost like a cliff hanger, so hopefully there will be a season 2. Superb acting by the entire cast. Hated to see it end!

This drama make me sad until now i try to convince my self this is just drama and forget it. Male leads and female lead didn’t even meet at last and the child the male lead supposed to meet his son. A very nice drama with lots of action (history of Japan's invasion of China) all acted very well especially my favorite Shawn Dou. I hope in the end they meet & he gets to meet his son.
WOW! What a ride! since they leave us at such a cliffhanger I do hope they plan on making a second season of this. See the journey of Xioa Beichen and Lin Hangjin being reunited and Beichen getting to meet his son. Come to think of it, if they do a second season of it, it will probably similar to the story of Odysseus and Penelope, but that's just my imagination running. I don't know about you guys but I enjoyed the storyline.

Beautiful series. Many of the scenes were a characterization of the history, culture and patriotism that really happened during the war. It is heartbreaking to watch but the portrayal of the actors and actresses gave credit to the reality of life "in flames of war" as aptly titled. I commend the lead actor and actress and although the ending did not show us that they found each other, in our heart and mind, they did and continued to live the happy life as a family. This is what we should all 🙏 for. That despite all the atrocities that surround us, those who survive it will find comfort, happiness and blessings.
I am finally relieved that both of them changed themselves, now they have faith in each other and understand their responsibility towards each other. Just a few episodes before, I wish that both of them should not be together as they don't deserve each other . Both of them had their own bold personalities and priorities . But now both of them try their best to understand each other and are aware of their responsibilities . No need to mention, their intense love for each other. Both of them waited for each of for atleast 5 years. Now they know value of each other . I want them to be together for forever and want their child to have a complete home 🏡😊😊

A meaningful, beautiful, and interesting series. It revealed lots of values and showed the bond between a citizen and his motherland . The scenes of sacrifices and loyalty to the motherland are so touching especially in the last episodes. I learned alot. I would definitely remember their words, maybe check some scenes, and watch it again in future.

Who here after watching TTEOTM, Chen Du Liing was fantastic in this drama as Lin Hangjin. & her chemistry with Shawn Dou was emotional and a wake call up to reality of the war affecting their relationship. Hope there will be a sequel of this in production soon after playing 3 different characters in the latest drama hit.
I watched this series 2 days ago and I am completely STUNNED. It is such a beautiful well directed series and it completely blew me away.
1. How the war changes people. From the rich and sheltered became brave soldiers and commanders who fought for their country. From the innocent simple kite seller who yearns for a better government and future for the people became the traitor of the nation. How greed amongst the Chinese warlords destroys the National Revolutionary Army from within.
2. How uncertain is the future and that we should cherish all the things we love before they are gone. Parents, brothers, sisters, friends, lovers. One can never turn back time. Before you knew it, all those things are lost in time. Years wasted on hating one another and all those pride and misunderstandings. How unfortunate things are for people back in those days to never have a fleeting chance to reunite, reconcile and make amends. How innocent lives are destroyed. Children and older generations.
3. Whether big or small, our sacrifice matters. The sacrifice that the opera actors made in fighting against the Japanese army breaks my heart. Its just too painful too watch.
A story that started off so perfectly…the perfect family, the perfect mansion, a beautiful dream for your country, a simple life, a simple wish, true love, hopes and dreams, day dreaming about those lavish lazy lives ahead, no obligations nor responsibilities…it all changes…the ending serves a contrast from the beginning…like spring and rough winters.
The characters have my love and they are full of flaws. Mistakes were made, hurtful words were spoken, lovers drifted apart, but in the end, family stood by each other, friends shielded each other even from death, and lovers reunite and won’t let go..even for just a moment.
Deepest sympathy to those who have lost their loved ones during the war💔 This series serves as a remembrance to never take the peace and love that we have in our lives for granted❤
