    When I started riding in the 60s, a bike with 46 hp was a real hot rod. We had highways back then too, with the same speed limits we have now. I rode my 305cc Honda Super Hawk at 70 mph on the highway all the time. Nobody was ever heard to say their British 650 twin or their 45 hp BMW or 50hp Harley big twin wasn't "highway capable". Not saying a CB500 is ideal for highway cruising but it's perfectly capable. Riders today are brainwashed by magazines telling them that any bike with under 100 hp is "slow".

      @momchilyordanov8190 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      And how fast was the traffic moving in the 60s? No tractor trailer was going 75 mph, like they do now. Not even close. I'm not saying this motorcycle cannot go on the highway. I'm saying that comparison with a period that's like 60 years ago is irrelevant.

    • @barryervin8536
      @barryervin8536 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@momchilyordanov8190 Tractor trailers certainly were going 75 mph on highways in the 60s where I lived. The speed limits on most highways were 65 and everybody routinely did 10 over. The main difference I see today is that there is way more traffic on the roads, not that it's going faster. The other difference is that back in the 60s we didn't have bikes that were capable of 160 mph that we could brag about and say how "slow" bikes are that only do 110. Having said that, I try to avoid highway riding as much as possible (it's boring) but if I were planning to do a lot of it I'd probably buy a bigger bike. Or a car.

      When I started riding the speed on the 401 was 70 miles per hour ( 112.7 KM per hour ) then during the so called gas crises dropped to 60 MPH ( 96.6 KM ) now 100 K Think in NB the limit is 110 KM but hear in PEI we are stuck with 90 KM per hour. When traveling between TO and Barrie on the 400 limit was 100 Km but most drove 120 KM I had even seen it where the center lane was doing 130 KM on a Friday night.

    It is a very capable motorcycle, on highway and soft offroad, we (the CB500X and me) participate in the first "ANDES RIDER CHALLENGE" Elite category , this event consists of a non-stop 1000 Km of pavement and not pavemented roads of Ecuador, and not only the motorcycle makes it, even being not the fastest (event full of KTM 1200, Super Tenere, V-Strom, BMW GS 1250, etc) the fuel economy is an advantage to consider, I stop every 400+ Km (Near to 500 Km) to fill the tank, most of the big bikes don't have this autonomy at top speeds, they overtake us to 130 / 150 Kph, but in the netx gas station we say BYE¡¡¡ over and over again.
    Sorry for my english.

    I have a transalp and I bought myself a cb500x which I rode over 9 western states, in late November. I rode in fog, snow...wind; I saw it all.
    I did an iron butt ie 1000 miles the last day, starting at continental divide 40 miles east of the Arizona New Mexico border and made it home to my ranch on the Sacramento River just south of Sacramento .
    I was doing 80-85 mph all the way on I-40, opening her up 3 times over 110mph; I never triggered the rev limiter.Flawless bike, the baby Africa Twin
    Get the 17T front sprocket from JT Sprockets
    and you will be ruining at a whopping 500 rpm lower for the same speed, with less engine wear and better fuel economy
    This bike is a gem, we sust need a little more ground clearance., spoked wheels and she will be good for trip from Deadhorse Alaska to Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego

    I detest highway riding...the wind, the noise, the monotony, no corners, soooo boring. When I take road trips I do 99% back-roads...oh yeah! the corners, the braking the scenery, the relaxing, the traffic (none), the smells. If I must travel far with time limitations I do the highway in a car.

    I’ve done 1000kms highway on my 2018 500X in a day, and I’d say is more than capable. Even cruising at 130km/h, does it with ease. Overtaking is a breeze as well and for me personally the best allrounder there is. But a little more kick would be nice, like a 650 or 700z

      I did maybe 800km in one day and it was awful. So boring just sitting there at 120 for 7 hours. I've never wanted a bigger bike yet. Maybe the NC750 just for the automatic transmission. I'm also particular to the KLR650, only because it's such a tank! Love the CB500X for secondary road cruising. It's an amazing bike.

      @@thehondabaron4539 I hear you, but our biggest danger is being rear ended, so unless you KNOW no one is behind you... slowing down on a highway on-ramp can be deadly. I have to remember that other drivers speed up too... so you have to evaluate during, not just decide to throttle out, they speed up, you have to speed up because you've decided you are doing it... etc. etc.

      Wind buffeting. Too cheap to spend $300 on an aftermarket windscreen so I just took it off.

    I love my CB500x, BUT, when I took it to ride Route 66 from Carthage, Missouri to Santa Monica, CA, it was terrifying to ride in any kind of wind. I seriously feared for my life. You sit too high, and are too susceptible to crosswinds. It's not the most comfortable bike, either, even though I have the tallest windshield available, and had a pack strapped to the pillion to serve as a back rest. I ended up wrecking just east of Amarillo (long story), and didn't complete the ride. Now I'm looking to get a Suzuki Boulevard C50 for that Route 66 ride - I'll keep my CB500x, and will sell the Suzuki when I return. The CB500x is really a versastile for most riding, but if you want to do highway riding all day, day after day, leave the CB500x in the garage.

    Who even asks if a 500cc is good enough for a highway? What a stupid question. What are you taking the autobahn? Come on...

      Probably a cruiser person. I used to have a Yamaha v star 650 that struggled to go over 70 without becoming real buzzy and not fun. It needed a 6th gear like crazy. So to a cruiser person 500 sounds really inadequate. It's all based on your experiences. I have a VTX 1300 cruiser now but even it doesn't like going much over 78 mph without becoming buzzy. It needs a 6th gear too. It was only when I had a 1500 Kawasaki Vulcan that I was able to go 80 or 85 all day long without it being buzzy and feeling like you need to shift. So, at least in my opinion, it's not really a stupid question for many people.

      @@thehondabaron4539 when people say in German highways there is no speed limit it is not true. Only some motorways or parts of it have no speed limit. Nevertheless, 100mph plus drivers always use the fast lane. Most vehicle goe around 60-75mph just like in rest of the world. Highways are good to avoid speeding tickets mainly because I ride nakeds, terrible above 130kmh.

      This one was made in Thailand. As far as I know, Honda doesn't manufacturer these bikes in India.
