Kayaking with Manatees on Crystal River - Three Sisters Spring - Crystal River Plantation, Florida

Three Sisters Spring is an important natural habitat for manatees from mid-November until late March. The natural spring water remains a constant 72 degrees and the manatees gather in the warmth to rest and feed over the winter months. During our visit in late January we were able to see hundreds of manatees of all sizes in the waters beneath us! We rented kayaks from the Crystal River Plantation and paddled about a mile over to Three Sisters Spring. The area is roped off for conservation and was crowded with snorkelers and boats, but we were still able to see many manatees in the water. Some swam right beside our kayaks! It was an amazing experience and the area is well suited for the sightseers. There was even an island with a small beach area we stopped at for a rest.
