I definitely hear it as an unaccented vowel sound. Also, the second 'o' in octopus is written as a schwa in Merriam-Webster, but it sounds the same as the second two syllables of platypus. I'm curious about other opinions because I'm using platypus as a keyword for 'y' as a schwa because it's a memorable word and image. Thank you!
