My channel is mainly about My Little Pony and Littlest Pet Shop from 2010 and 2005 respectively. The vast majority of fans of these franchises (according my own and other's polls) have long since grown up. I myself was born in 1997, and my videos have always been made with the intention of reaching a similar age group of people.
I don't necessarily think Discord is over-exaggerating his relationships with the Mane Six. I think it's more of him reminiscing about the past, and said memories being a little clouded with some fallacies due to how much time has passed and how much his mental state has regressed. When you tell others stories of 'better times', you tend to be a bit biased due to nostalgia. :(
It's a literary device called the "unreliable narrator". You can't perfectly trust what the narrator tells you either, because they can't know everything or because of some bias (usually obvious) the narrator has.
I wish I could give you comon examples of the device, but all I can think of off the top of my head are Mattrim Cauthon and Nynaeve al'Mera from the Wheel of Time book series.

The fact he doesn't mention/count Spike at all really irks me.
Discord isn't what I would call a "reliable narrator". We should take what he says with significant portions of salt.
That and it's common for people to romanticise the past and glorify it and their relationships with people during better times in order to cope. The only thing keeping Discord somewhat sane is the memory of his friends, so he makes them seem closer to keep himself going.
In the climax of G4 Chrysalis managed to turn the three tribes against each other really quickly, so there's obviously some buried animosity and distrust between the tribes. Also, It's not just that Twilight took away their magic to make them get along, it's implied that it was a civil war. She took their magic to stop them from killing each other.
And the tribes got back together in like 10 seconds. Plus, what, did the cakes' kids split up when it happened? The ponies were interbred, what happens when a unicorn suddenly has a pegasus child because genetics? And the three races got along for 1000 years under Celestia and the supposed princess of friendship did such a crap job she somehow destroyed that less than a century? I thought they were at least going to say this had happened after twilight already died.
@@dragonninja3655 Yeah i agree. The fricking *Princess Of Friendship* did a horrible job and lasted around 40 - 60 years. Kinda pathetic how they chose to turn Twilight from a strong princess into some wimp unable to keep the peace without removing the magic completely. They basically undid all the character developement she got in 9 seasons. They destroyed *9 years* of character developement.

I'm sorry, but you can't have a repeat of Ending of the End. Not AFTER 20 years of a successful multicultural society, where even other creatures started living with ponies.
This type of conflict feels forced at this point and it's more like trying to make parallel to the "current year", which is a load of BS.

@@sonicspeedproductions2.04 it’s the entire storyline too. Not just crappy writers coming in to ruin Twilight. Look at the last couple seasons. It doesn’t share the same feel as the very begging and middle. Most fans say they didn’t even like the end. It left a lot of holes

Why is this concept of now a random unicorn all the sudden ruining it easily? Doesn’t this new message say there will never be true harmony because evil will always just take over?
A lot of people were complaining about how Canterlot is in an entirely different location than in G4

Given how long it’s been since G4 it’s not too far fetched to assume the mountains that held Canterlot had eroded over time. I mean, the tree of harmony was surrounded by the everfree forest and now it’s just a lovely tree in a Daisy field on a hill

I think Discord is leaving something out of the story he told. I don't think Twilight wouldn't create the crystals if it is important.

I really wish the TV show went this way. Having Sunny and friends searching the ruins of old Equestria and discovering the feats of the Mane 6. Finding out what happened in between. Definitely what's good about this comic. I just wish it were the TV show because the comic is prolly gunna be relegated to non cannon or alt universe.
Having said that, I don't like the explanation as to what happened after G4 ended. Mostly because of the same reasons you pointed out. How did this mysterious unicorn go around and convince ponies to hate each other so fast? When not even a few years before, Chrysalis did the same thing in the finale and everyone learned it was wayyyy better to get along. Also, I figured Twilight was the one to make the crystals but why she did it I both don't like but I understand. However, the only reason I understand is because apparently ponies tend to start hating each other quite easily so I understand her being like "Get along or else" as a frustrated leader. Specially after some big cataclysm she and her friends had to deal with *because* ponies didn't get along yet again!
I'm way more interested in the comic than the TV show thus far. I just want to find out more about what happened in between G4 and G5.

Also, the story here does seem to follow up on the MYM special, as earth pony magic is present, Hitch can talk to the animals, and they reference the magic glitching before.
Sadly, I don’t blame Twilight. She probably made the crystals after all of her friends passed away because even in the show she relied a lot on her friends and when they weren’t there she would often make bad decisions
If the stones were a last resort after her friends died, I can still blame her and all alicorn kind for not thinking that far ahead to when your friends will DIE and you - oh great leader- will only have your burdens left. Burdens you self inflicted. Something that didn’t have to happen. If friendship was so great and such a bridge builder then assuming authority over it as if it is the Mane six’s to ransom with Twilight as the conqueror is so stupidly tone deaf I’m actually happy it failed because I see no legitimate reason why it deserved to succeed if power hierarchy is their conclusion.

I think i know who this unicorn/alicorn villain is. She is majesty from g1. She tried to make equestria g1 a better place. Through reality warping. Trapping ponies in paintings or turning ponies into trees. Edit well i was wrong.

Honestly this is why as someone who grew up with G4 I’ve elected to believe that G4 and G5 are different timelines or perhaps parallel universes, and that G4 actually ended with everyone in equestria getting along and all kinds of creatures lived in harmony.
Me too. What where they thinking? I was hoping for something more exciting than what we got, and with the real Grogar. That twist in season 9 put me off a bit. I wanted the real Grogar
So, let me get this straight.... Almost immediately after G4 ended, a single villain showed up and single-hoofedly destabilized Equestrian society to the point that racism ran rampant, war broke out, and Twilight abandoned social guidance altogether and locked all the magic in the entire world behind a fail-safe mechanism to essentially blackmail everyone into being nice to each other??
Good lord. Was she that bad at her job? Celestia kept things running smoothly for a solid millennium. Then Twilight steps up and in a matter of decades she sees the near collapse of civilization before resorting to hijacking a natural resource to brute force peace! All because of one grumpy line-cutter being an ass? Are ponies really that weak-willed, that all it takes is one bigot to ruin society in just a few years?? This is exactly the sort of thing Twilight was supposed to prevent!
Purple Smart became the Princess of Friendship, presumably the ultimate diplomat and builder of bridges. Her purpose in life was to lead people towards higher ideals through compassion and empathy. And yet, on her watch everything falls apart so badly that she magics up a solution and permanently alters the ecosystem of the whole world! Am I the only one who finds this outrageously depressing and antithetical to the entire fabric of FiM? So much for the elements of harmony! Just rig the system so they all play nice!
And the peace doesn't even last! By the time of G5 everything's fallen apart all over again! Not only are ponies no longer living harmoniously with different races, they're not even living with one another anymore! Prejudice won out and they went right back to hating each other for so many generations that Twilight's whole reign is considered a myth, even when the fail-safe triggered and all ponies lost their magic! So much for the crystal McGuffin gambit!
See, this is why I prefer to divorce G5 from G4's continuity. I went through all this with the Star Wars sequels, I don't need any more of that!
To be fair the comics were always stupid. I hope the G5 tv show will have its own better explaination without any connection to the comics. Same thing has been going for G4, the tv show and comics always had their own separated continuity.

My personal Theory is that after Magic returned Discord Found out who brought it back and what he is doing now is his way of testing them and preparing them in an environment he can control to make sure their truly up for the task of defending Friendship and Unity
Ya it just seems irrational for him to destroy magic plus testing the main 5 seems very in character for discord.
He's planning the role of a villain to test them but it shows he learnt from his actions with Sombra and the whole Grogar situation. He's testing them but also not letting things go out of control or potentially risking any lives.

so no one is going to talk about how starlight's lesson was totally forgotten... by twilight, her friends, and freaking starlight herself?.... the lesson in the 5th season of MLP (G4) in the cutie map episodes. the one where you shouldn't give up what is unique about you, even if someone thinks it will cause you pain? and also didn't this setup with people in ponyville being unhappy literally happen in the comics and the G4 series *BEFORE* the new series was probably ever green-lit? sure twilight is unsure of herself... but either discord lied... or the writers have no knowledge of the comics or the g4 show.... or no respect for it.

That horribly backfired more ways than one.
My first thought. An Equestria without Harmony is an Equestria frozen dead by the Windy-gos.
Second thought. The ocean on Sunny's map is on the wrong side of the continent for ANY part of Equestria as presented on the table in Twilight's Castle.
Two plus two equals four.
Third thought. Discord ruled all of Equestria before Celestia and Luna rose to power. He was explicitly described as both ancient and eternal then, with full cognizance of the passage of time while he was turned to stone for longer than Luna spent as the Mare in the Moon. So how the hell did he suddenly learn how to suffer from old age after all of Gen 4's writers were shoved out the door?
The answer is simple. Gen 4 and Gen 5 do not share any canon. All of Gen 4 is now treated as in-universe mythology for the writers of Gen 5 to ignore whenever having to read would be, like, hard and stuff, or to drop names from whenever they want to fool us into thinking they actually watched Gen 4.
Sadly, that is all there is to it.

You're right. I would've preferred if the show / animated series went with the comic storyline instead. Maybe they just needed something to draw people in? Since it's obvious that the show isn't exactly a smash hit. 💀 If you're curious - the next issue comes out in July! They release every month. I believe the same website you used also has dates listed up until early 2023.
I agree this shouldn’t be in the comics I wasn’t aware of MLP comics until season 10 came out so I missed a lot of information this makes me feel scare for the make your mark series this should be on Netflix
@@aris1562 There's a lot of characters and stories from the comics that the show hasn't covered. I believe the only thing they ever brought over from the comics was / were Scootaloo's aunts? There could be other things I'm missing. But that's the only thing that comes to mind.
Discord is just a crusty ol' man who misses his only friend terribly. I feel so bad for him tbh. Just, they way he looks at Izzy while remembering Fluttershy breaks me.
Discord seemed to be changing for the better the last time we saw him in MLP G4. I really hope I didn't get my hopes up for nothing.
I don't think discord is really bad. I mean his reasoning for destroying the crystals is to make sure no one is hurt over their differences like izzy with zipp, pipp and sunny. Though I'm disappointed because this is what starlight originally worked for in the town and we saw how that was. Taking what's special about other ponies is not what the best option is. Guess we'll just have to see what Discord does next.
I think I have a theory as to why Discord wanted to remove magic from Equestia: namely the fact that Fluttershy was killed by something magical in nature that he either caused or couldn't prevent. Probably wrong but without more information it's the only thing I could think of.
I think the seeds of conflict were sewn during the 9th season of FiM when Chrysalis nearly succeeded in dividing up pony society against each other.
And she seemed to do it quite easily.

I’m quite agree with your idea actually. Bcoz Luna did mention that magic cannot just disappear into thin air in last ep of season 4. But there is something that bothering me. If the crystals are destroyed and then released the magic that contained in it, then would it be the same if (what if) Celestia and Luna dead their magic got released to the world too? Or the magic just disappear along with their death?
"That isnt like twilight" friendly reminder she wanted to use a reforming spell on discord which i have always thought was some sort of mindcontrol like the one starlight does, or when she wanted to exterminate the bats in that episode where Fluttershy becomes one? Twilight is...quick to jump to drastic solutions when she thinks it is for the greater good.
Atleast with Dischord, they had no idea he could even be nice and it was lucky that he grew to like Fluttershy, it would of been King Kong but he has nothing to focus on beside mayhem.

The comic was incredibly good, and I hope they adapt it at least somewhat into the show. Personally, it is very clear to me why Canterlot stopped being used, and why only Discord is still there: The gate. Only creatures who embrace the ideals of Friendship can enter, which, for the longest time, was just Discord and his animal friends he takes care of.

That unicorn reminded me of Chrysalis in season 9, when she changed into a unicorn-photographer. In that episode all races were divided easily as well, so.. I don't think it was too hard for unicorn from a comic.
If tasked with connecting G4 to G5 and fixing some of the plot holes, this is how I would do it.
Instead of having a random Unicorn/ Alicorn come in and ruin relations between the three tribes even thought they’ve been together just fine for thousands of moons before Twilight and have several holidays surrounding it, I would have the Unicorn/Alicorn (let’s call her purple evil) be a direct disciple of Twilight. So this is years after presumably the death of the main 5 as Twilight is now alone and training up a new pony to eventually take her place as princess on the throne. Everything is so peaceful for so long under her rule that she becomes a bit careless and a bit naive in her choice choosing purple evil as she reminds her much of herself and her friends. Except purple evil is unsurprisingly secretly evil. Sure she has friends just like Twilight but their relationship is one sided as she has all the drive of a young Twilight but the motives of a young Sunset Shimmer. In short she is power hungry and using friendship as a vehicle to get the thrown.
Purple evil launches a secret campaign with the naive help of her friends who are too afraid of her to question her authority to ruin the relationship between ponies and all other creatures knowing that Princess Twilight’s connection to the elements of harmony is the only thing that could defeat her and they are powered by friendship and harmony. As relations get worse the windigos return threatening the harmony in Equestria even further and driving everypony apart much faster. (The other nations also flee back to their lands due to this)
Twilight wanting to get control over things as eveybody is in a state of panic and discord leaves her trusted protege to handle public relations as she frantically searches for a solution. Purple evil uses this as an opportunity to gain more popularity in the public eye. Because things are so dire and Twilight can’t do this on her own she prematurely gives purple evil wings and turns her into an Alicorn as she believes she has found a solution to their problems but it requires two alicorns working in harmony to do it. She will bring back the physical forms of the elements of harmony and gift them to purple evil and her friends and THEY will work together to bring harmony back to Equestria and fend off the windigos. But OH NO! She played directly into her trap. Purple evil becomes and Alicorn and turns the newly resurrected elements of harmony on Princess Twilight. She is saved in the nick of time by Discord but now Purple evil is an Alicorn and has the elements of harmony. Purple evil begins her reign over Equestria, using her popularity and new princess status to trick every pony into believing she is their rightful leader and that Princess Twilight has abandoned them. Meanwhile Princess Twilight frantically looks for a way to save Equestria from purple evil.
Purple evil is on a frantic search for Princess Twilight because as long as she is free she can undo what she did and turn Purple evil back from an Alicorn back into a unicorn taking her powers away. Purple evil’s friends try and reason with her but she turns the elements of harmony against them turning them all into stone, effectively tainting the elements. Princess Twilight has no choice but to preform a spell sealing their magic away as well as all the magic in Equestria so they can never be used again. She uses her teleportation powers to obtain the elements of harmony one last time and with the help of Discord seals them away into three Unity Crystals. This is her fail safe for the future. With no magic left she leaves Discord to watch over Equestria till the day the crystals are United once again and magic returns. She goes to scatter the crystals and tasks Discord with raising the Sun and the Moon in the mean time. Though Discord doesn’t understand Twilight’s plan he does so, never leaving his post in Cantorlot castle. With no magic to control Equestria with Purple evil has no power to control everypony and her Alicorn status becomes effectively useless but this doesn’t stop her from erecting her own independent Kingdom in her image (The one we saw) . With no disharmony magic to feed off of the Windigos are unable to freeze the land and the land is saved. Eveypony is still separated however and most everything was destroyed and abandoned in the chaos.
Jump forward to Sunny and her friends who finally once again work together to unite the crystals. Twilight gave each tribe a Crystal with the intent that only when they untied again would they discover magic once again. Argile new about this prophecy and secretly wanted to unite the crystals again (hence why he had that thingy for them and why he was so adamant everypony get along ) but knew that telling any pony about them would put the world at risk. Argile is one of the few ponies from a family that never lost the teaching of Twilight and her friends and passed it down the generations with the express intent to never forget the values she instilled in ponies. When the crystals were United however something unusual happened in that Sunny actually managed to absorb Twilight’s Alicorn magic, hence why she got the wings, but it was never her intent to have the person who United them become a sudo Alicorn but Sunny’s connection with the elements of Harmony is so strong it’s much like Twilight’s. So Now that magic is back Sunny is the only pony standing between power hungry purple evil and complete domination. Also! Discord will pass down the message to Sunny that once Harmony returns to Equestria the spell binding the elements will be broken and magic will return for good, so it’s not permeant. 👍

Than the comic, I really don't get why would Twilight and Her Friends, choose to control over ponies to forcefully stop them from fighting. Taking there magic, cuz that's the best option for there opinion. Instead stopping the real Bad guy, they been together for years, face many obstacles, challenge, danger, enemy, learn lessons from there mistakes, even make friends with them. Even befriend the other creatures. So~ yah, It's been great If this happened In the comic, went Twilight friends already gone, years pass. Without Twilight friends, just like u said, from good days turn to chaos, ponies turn to each other, blah blah, the other Creatures decided to leave, cuz don't want to be Involved on ponies problems. That's It...
@@venti726 I haven't read the comic yet, but i theorize the mane five tried to stop her in some way, either that or Starlight tried to stop her since she tried to do the same thing. In retrospect, not only did Twilight fail Equestria, but Celestia put her on the path, so in light of it all Celestia failed Equestria too.
What about luster dawn and her friends aren't they stoping twilight sparkle or they aren't the chosen one?
@@ronaldpagar6513 good question, I forgot about Luster dawn and her friends. For starters, I’m just guessing here, being she’s friends with more than just ponies, if Twilight takes magic from Equestria, then does she also take it from the role as a whole. Like I said I’m just guessing, Luster dawn might try to stop Twilight since Luster would see Twilight turn her back on friendship and harmony. As for her being the chosen ones, it was stated by Starswirl that the elements of hormone would cease to work if their used as a weapon. It’s been seen in the past when Nightmare moon and Celestia fought and it happened prior to that when Starswirl and his friends locked themselves in limbo. In hindsight the element of harmony can’t be used as a weapon, thus rendering the chosen status mute. In retrospect Luster probably tried to stop Twilight, but in the end, ended up helping her hide the earth crystal. This in turn would would make many theorize and believe sunny is Lusters daughter, with others believing that Twilight is sunny’s mother. I only say this to connect the two together and see which is viable, we only see Argile sunny’s father, not her mother, all we get to see is a friendship journal and one of Twilights plucked feathers. In short, many brownies believe Celestia was a secret villain and seeing how she put Twilight on this path, one must ask, was this her goal all along.? What do you think?
@@quinnhouk5369 True, but that was long before season 9, that was during season 4, things could've changed without Faust knowing. As for Luster dawn and Discord, this was most likely before Fluttershy passed away, so it could be possible. until Twilight took the magic away, which is way more darker than i previously thought. here me out, if Twilight took magic away, then she not only took it from the land and other ponies, but also from herself and her friends. In short twilight sacrificed herself, her friends and everypony else, without everypony knowing, in short she pressed the reset button.
OK: I AM PICKING THIS UP!!! 💖💖 Even though the first G5 film was great, THIS is want I wanted for the show! 🤩 Good characterization, old characters like Discord showing up and more lore regarding tying both Generations together. Not 5 Season 1 episodes of FIM rehashed into a 40 minute special with very uncanny animation and awkward line deliveries! 🙄
And that stuff between Fluttershy and Discord was legit sad. Like...woah..😥

Discord was a far better friend than most give him credit for.
He played a lot of pranks on the companions, but the pranks were usually pointed at pushing Twilight in the direction she needed to move.
It was Discord who pointed Twilight to the answer to the thorn invasion from the Everfree Forest. and Discord who left the bookmarks that helped Twilight open the box and defeat Tirek in Season 4.
He hasn't always been prefect (double crossing the Mane Six at the end of season 4 comes to mind) but in the end, even though he mostly pulled pranks for his own amusement, the pranks helped more than hurt.
It was a very Discord way of being a friend.

It wasn't Twilight's decision ALONE. She literally explains in the last episode that she makes all her important decisions through her council of friendship with the mane 5 and spike.

I think it's a mix of things; He has aged heavily probably more so because he had previously spent centuries unaging while petrified so his mental capacity is eroded, he has always lied and been chaotic and exaggerated and stretched the truth, and he also had to watch not just everyone he cared about die but also watch the world that they made and the world that had a place for him for the first time in his life die too and had spent centuries alone once again so he definitely can't remember the truth anymore due to the pain and nostalgia. He's lying about being a part of the mane 6, I think his pain is making him blame it all on one person rather than a big shift that hurts more because it happened over a longer period of time, and I think he straight up can't remember or is also subconsciously forgetting about all the other magical beings that lived in Equestria either due to age or it also being too painful to remember because he watched whatever happened to them happen and then happen to the ponies.
I may have an add on to that theory. Maybe Discord is mad at Twilight for making the crystals. He is a creature that loves (or at least used to love) magic. So mabye he thinks that forcing ponies to be friends just to have access to magic is too far in his opinion. But because of what happened with that unicorn, he's unsure anymore and would rather have a world without magic than a world with magic that you can only have if everyone is friends with everyone.

One theory I have is that the mysterious unicorn was actually using magic to create disharmony. We've seen it before in gen 4, and even with the sirens in EQG. If the magic became too out of hand, Twilight getting rid of all magic would be the last resort (Rainbowdash of all characters would have fought hard to keep her ability to fly, so if she gave it up, it must have been a big issue going on)
Personally, I don’t think that discord is turning back into a villain. Clearly, he still mourning the death of his friends and practically anyone he knew. He looks like he’s been hiding away for so long, so it makes complete sense why his morals are sort of distorted right now. And in Discord fashion, I feel like it’s totally in character for him to make bad decisions, even if they have good intentions.
Considering the falling out between ponies had triggered a massive storm, Twilight probably felt like drastic measures were required to both stop it and prevent it from happening again. And there's nothing to suggest the crystal solution fell apart at any point during the rest of her reign. It could have happened centuries later.
And Discord didn't really lose his character progression. By all indications, he genuinely wants to help the ponies, and believes that destroying magic will actually ensure peace between them.
The thing is it does show that Discord has matured solely because Discord during FiM would've wanted to keep magic so HE would keep his power and would've probably just used his power to force the ponies to get along. Him wanting to destroy them makes sense with his growth, he is sacrificing his own happiness to try and protect Equestria and the ponies from themselves and one another.
Discord doesn’t do something just to do them. He probably does miss the mane 6 especially Fluttershy. Though Discord has always pushed others (not always in the best way) but with some intentions. Like how he brought the three villains together to take control of everything as a way to ultimately test Twilight and the magic of friendship. I think him taking the crystal now is another one of those test with the new ponies. Besides with magic back I can’t see him wanting to loose his magic again unless it’s assumed he has been the only one to be able to use magic this entire time. I definitely think there is more here than we are getting even with Twilight creating the crystals. That one unicorn must have really done a number on them all and it doesn’t make sense that one unicorn by themselves could break a whole nation that easily after how much everyone was brought together including the other races and species even. Can’t wait to find out more though.

There is so many missing pieces in this story like how it did go from everyone after being in constant hatred against one another to back to harmony to back to hating each other again like there has to be a reason why it went back to the ponies hating each other Also if canterlot is abandoned what about the crystal empire? Ponyville? What happened to all these locations maybe they might talk about it in the next issue
Maybe pony kind is the problem. Maybe they are just gullible and easily bought when treated friendly especially by a member of their own species/ race to the point of missing larger implications. It would explain a lot about how Twilight’s ascension to power was so out of the blue and so convenient without any real questions doubts or thoughts about how it would affect the future.
Or if a pony has a certain alpha aura around them villainous or not and lesser - because that’s what they are- ponies are more likely to obey and never fight back if not think twice.
Or it’s all just a plot hole to keep the story going
The thing with Twilight's solution is that there really isn't a good one. This is the third time the ponies have been against eachother due to their races. Its not hard to bring them to that level clearly, Chrisalys and this new pony were able to do it easily. If she didn't somehow subdue their abilities to harm eachother, things could have turned out much worse. If the ponies fall apart that easily, it's probably alright to have a reusable fail safe in place in case it happens again. Its not like she can really say anything to get them to like eachother, Its better to make sure they can't hurt eachother. Its not a good solution sure, but it works for the time being
First of all, I wholeheartedly agree with all of your opinions about the comic so far. Also, I just wanted to add the part about the “influential unicorn”. Just to put it into perspective, Discord rallied three of the most dangerous villains form the show (if you count cozy-glow as one of the most dangerous) together in the span of two episodes just to upset all of the ponies and teak havoc. And in the end Twilight still returned it to normal. So honestly, that is the part that makes the least sense. Unless of course she made that decision because she couldn’t stand a situation like that happening yet another time (also maybe because she was getting older and couldn’t handle it? Idk). Anyway, aside from that, I am really enjoying this comic and I think that overall they are doing a pretty good job with it as well as looking forward to any future updates!

I think Discord isn't telling the full truth.
I belive he is testing them, just like he used to do to Twilight and her friends.
There was no reason for such a ultimatum when the Windigos are already a deterrent against conflict between ponies. And the fact that she took ALL the magic makes me think it was because of something much bigger.
What if, they faced someone/something similar to Tirek, but is empowered by the presence of magic itself? You can't overload their powers or strip them, all magic is useless against it. So the only way to neutralize such a threat was to cut its connection to magic, by sealing it entirely, making the threat powerless and incapable of causing more harm.
But when Sunny and the others reunited the crystals, they unintentionally brought back this ancient enemy.
So Discord's plan is one of two options, test their friendship and their skills to see if they can stay united and beat him, proving that they might stand a chance where others failed.
Or if they fail, he'll make sure the crystals stay separated, thus preventing the return of whatever that threat was.
At least that's my theory.

I think there's more to the creation of the crystals than Discord let on. I think maybe Twilight used them to imprison the evil unicorn, and that exposed her to all types of magic. And when they were reunited, maybe it freed her?

I really like the idea that the final villain that Twilight couldn't defeat wasn't some kind of all powerful magical creature like Discord, Tirek or Grogar, it was a pony that gained power slowly by turning the pony races agaisn't eachother, until she had so much influence on them that she could make the ponies be agaisn't Twilight (maybe, this is just my guess)
Tbh it sounds kinda like a repeat of the season 9 finale, when all the ponies were against eachother, kinda wish they went with something more original.

I basically have 3 thing's to say about this comic, I did buy it and read it.
1. I can't decide if Discord is serious or if he is testing the Mane 5.
We all know that Discord is not above doing such thing's.
2. At the part where it show's Twilight creating the crystal's. You can see that Rainbow Dash & Applejack are holding each other's leg's or hooves. Anyway, there are many who are using this to strengthen the RD&AJ ship, which I'm so apart of. And in my option their ship doesn't need strengthening cause as far as I'm concerned Rainbow Dash and Applejack are married. The only thing that can change my mind is if Hasbro somehow say's, most likely through Gen5 in some way, that Rainbow Dash and Applejack aren't together in anyway. Then and only then will I abandon the RD&AJ ship.
3. While reading this comic and seeing that mysterious unicorn I had a crazy thought. Before I continue Please Note that I'm not in anyway referring to that Alicorn in Make Your Mark, I'm talking about the mysterious unicorn in this comic.
So what if this mysterious sinister unicorn is Twilight's Daughter. Just imagine how heartbreaking and soul shattering that'd be. And I mean her daughter daughter, not a unicorn she adopted. Her physical biological daughter.
And that could be the answer to your question, how did a unicorn have such influence. She is Twilight's Daughter. Now as to why Twilight did what she did, I have no idea.

Maybe after flutter shy passed away discord made himself able to age o that he could in time pass as well and not eternally live with the pain of losing her. He might want to reach some peace and have made her proud or carried on her memory in a good way, and then find his peace.
Ponies have always been tribalist. I'd even say its their natural state. Remember why they became friends in HWE? Its not because they liked each other. Its because they didn't want to freeze to death. If you remove that consequence, there's no reason to be friends. Since they were using magic on each other, Twilight thought to simply lock it away until they learn to get along. That sounds strange but that's actually how parents deal with two kids fighting over a toy. Or at least, that's how parents used to raise their children.
This also gives bearing to Sprout's stories about how earth ponies were heroically kicking the asses of unicrons and pegasi in the past. They were protecting themselves from their magical attacks. So when he freaks out because Izzy comes into Maretime Bay, he wasn't lying about anything. There's legit reason why they fear these creatures. And now that magic is back, there is going to be a faction of "wicked ponies" who will take advantage of its return as shown by the shadowy alicorn in MyM along with the other ponies beside her. Sprout might have been right all along that by restoring magic, Sunny just opened Pandora's box.
One thing I am excited about is that I think the comics are being marketed and tailored primarily for bronies/ fans of G4 and so they are more willing to cover darker themes and dive deeper into the lore. The easter eggs in the comics point towards this. The cartoon meanwhile will be primarily for the target audience of families and young girls while having some connections to G4 it won't be a major focus. Time will tell, but considering they could have easily rest the franchise and act like fans of G4 don't exist, I'm glad they're going this route.
Maybe Discord lied about Twilight trying to control others to make them lose their faith in her. Losing faith in the princess of FRIENDSHIP makes friendship itself seem fake. What happened with the crystals when the ponies started to distrust one another again? Magic died. What is Discord made of? Magic. Who does he love most? Fluttershy. Is she dead? Obviously. His reason for lying is because he's depressed. He wants to pass on so he doesn't need to deal with the death of his truest friend any longer. The only way to do that is to make magic so weak, he has the ability to do so. He'd be able to make his magic disappear, too, like in the episode where he tries to be prim and proper for Fluttershy, but he can't. He doesn't have the chaotic enough energy to pretend to not be. Depression is its own chaos, and in that, he may never move on.
I bet Twilight didn't even make the crystals. I bet it was Discord.

I think there is more to the story. I would like to know what happened to Twilight and Her friends and I think the TV series could explore that. Even though The My Little Pony franchise is going to be 40 years old next year I would like to see Twilight and Her friends meet Sunny and Her friends and that would be cool to see.

I really REALLY think G5 should have been its own thing, I feel like they only included G4 not because they wanted to “expand the lore”, but because it was really popular. It’s incredibly insulting to the storytelling of FiM to say “Oh yeah, the Mane 6 have been through so much hell, but one snarky unicorn was the ONE thing they just couldn’t stop.” Twilight containing magic in crystals? Isn’t that something a villain would do? Who’s controlling the weather? Who’s raising the sun and moon? Where are the Windigos? The writers are now in this limbo where they only NOW realize they have so much lore to keep up with, because it’s obvious they’re not gonna answer any questions about what happened, hence why they keep shying away from it as more content comes out. I wanted to give this gen a fair shot, and I did, but it did not come through. And now the story is a messy hole the writers can’t climb out of.
i can definitely understand why they went with the Twilight creating the crystals and removing magic if harmony isn't kept part since it would make sense for Twilight to think that keeping everypony equal would make it easier for them to start accepting each other again since they started fighting over them being different races of ponies... the sad thing about it is that it seems like she might've had to do this as a last desperate attempt to keep harmony since there were so many other solutions she could've tried.
i wish they would have at least something like this in the show however since they have it in a comic book i'm not sure if that's going to happen. either way i would love to see Flurry Heart in the G5 show
removing the magic seems more like the plan that would be done if they were against an enemy who while bad without magic would be invincible with magic. Or if the enemys plan hinged on magic ( Like a magic hive mind to bring about true unity or a pony or other being who is a mix of starlight levels of mind control and discord levels of untouchable).
Could also be a wild card and discord could not be lying but not know the truth. maby the enemys plan was for the magic to be taken away so that they could change the magic in some way? -I don't understand Twilight's plan: Were the crystals extract all magic, or did they suppress it like in Make your Mark (where ponies power the crystals' magic and vice versa, and a simple disgreement could cause magic to glitch)? Either way, this is far-fetched to say the least; Not even a generation passed and life in Equestria collapsed. Why didn't the Mane 6 just confront and defeat the shadowy pony like they always do, and bring everypony else to their senses (like in The Ending of The End)? Magic was never the problem; the problem was the hatred spread by that shadowy pony.
- There's also the fact that G5 ponies look different from FiM ponies. At first, I thought it was intentional because the movie was CGI instead of 2D, but no. Why did their look change? Evolution?
To be fair Discord was best friends with Fluttershy. I can totally see him getting depressed after Fluttershy dies and not really taking care of himself, especially since he saw that the ponies never unified again for generations and pretty much forgot the Mane 6. Well unless the crystals took away everyone's magic and not just the ponies (I haven't read the comic yet, but the panel at 5:54 seems to hint at that). Also yah Twilight, that was a terrible decision. This is worse than the wendigos as at least they appear during extreme situations and not also at every argument or disagreements ponies have. You'd think she'd consult with the other princesses beforehand too (or at least this would need the other princesses to do and not just Twilight).
The Princess of Friendship really messed up pony society (and possibly every other species).
And man yah, this would have been perfect for the tv show since they established G5 is in the same universe as G4. I can't be the only one more interested in learning what happened when Twilight took the throne than what we're getting.
I think discords disheveled look is because of how long he spent without magic, the comic seems to imply that his magic wanes like the pony's magic does too so maybe he's just needed to cut and style his hair manually and now that he's been living with it, it seems he likes the way he looks or doesn't care about it enough.
Also, I think his personality makes sense, I mean Fluttershy was his first friend ever. Like ever. regardless of the lessons he's learned and all the ways he knows to be better, that's the kind of grief that would change someone. Not to mention, he saw her being mistreated and put down by so many ponies and he could never really limit the care he has for her. And the fact that everypony forgot about him and left him to be alone with the animals would've twisted him some way, he does say no one ever visits.

Pony Theory: This is all a ruse concocted by Discord in order to edify the magic of friendship. We have to keep in mind that Discord is chaos and not everything can make sense.
Why couldn't it been Opaline that made the Crystals? She could've used the hatred to absorb their magic within the crystals. But the mane six fought her and the crystals somehow gotten lost in battle. The ponies were still angry at each other an they could've think that either taken their magic which made them become distant and fear one another not knowing who actually took their magic in the first place.
This should be made into a Netflix special.
Also I will say if discord reappears in the animated series, PLEASE let him be voiced by Delancie again, I know the other guy from pony life tried, but he just doesn't sound right.

I also theorize that the villain is actually Flurry Heart. Since remember, most of her life WOULD have been during peace times, and who's to say she didn't get a superiority complex due to being BORN an alicorn unlike others who had to earn it. Could it have been due to an outside influence like the mean 3 somehow communicating to her to corrupt things.

Despite discord playing pranks, the other main six weren't really interested in discord as friend per way. They still sorta antagonized him because they failed to understand b that was his personality. I think discord got a long better with spike and big mack and fluttershy. And its usually him that goes out of his way to interact with them. But for the most part I think he is left out.
Oh, I kinda was expecting that Twilight broke down when her friends died and that lead to her failing to keep the tribes together that also lead to the windigos coming back, but the only way to defeat the windigos is friendship but she couldn't do that anymore. So, she took any last magic there is and her life to defeat the windigos.

I.. Have an issue with this comic. I'm surprised i guessed what happened right: The pony races turned against eachother, and to save the day, the princess (Twilight) used her magic to collect all of the magic and turn it into 3 crystals. You know, i'm glad it went this way. I wouldn't have wanted a different reason.
But the thing that upsets me is this one: Why Twilight? Why would _she_ be the one failing? It absolutely _ruins_ the G4 S9 finale, which was truly heart-touching, and turns it into a temporary moment of joy, that we all know now is gonna get ruined in a few years from then, or even in a few months. I would have preferred a lot more if it was one of Twily's successors who failed miserably. That would've been a far better decision in my opinion, to show that, while Twilight was able to keep Equestria happy and at peace, her successors slowly forgot her lessons, causing the 3 tribes' war. Now *that* would've been an awesome thing to see, at least to me.

But it's speculation until the next issue is released ( or the unlikely possibility ) of the TH-cam series even saying something.

I think the "shadow alicorn" influenced everypony by being rude and acting she was better than the others, that all unicorn were. This was so frequent and so annoying that some places started forbidding unicorns to get in, as a result they felt insulted and generalized, which led them to perpetuate the feeling of hate and so on.
Equestria fell apart again approximately during 1039 A.L.B, the conflict was stopped six years later in 1045 A.L.B. Then the storyline timeskipped for about 450 years before G5 starts
As we can see Canterlot located on the mountain but after I read the comic and see the scene, I feel like the woods that Izzy found Canterlot gate is not even located on the mountain or Caterlot collapsed because of the war between 3 different types, I'm just guessing, we have to wait and see
Ive loved the comics so far, I feel lucky my local comic shop has been carrying the issues too! I enjoy the animated series too but the comics I cant deny has been a bit better
In short, I don't think Discord is lying about his friendship with the Mane 6, and while the special left a lot to be desired, I wouldn't be surprised if the comics are used as a base for the tv show.
i swear this is the first time i watched anything like this and i swear that what i said my theory was earlier today is the same thing you read out. i was so shocked!😲also, during g4 and g5 i've been begging and wining and waiting for the day i can read all the official mlp comics for g4 and g5 but money sadly won't let me. i've only ever had one mlp comic. i wish the mlp makers had put their comics into the series as a animation as well so ponies like me can know what happens in the comics as well but if ponies like me can't read the comics but can only watch the tv series it leaves holes.
I like to believe that Discord and Fluttershy are still alive, he would definitely give her immortality so he can't lose her, and their just in his pocket dimension and since it is his he made the pocket dimension he can probably make it so nothing can age while in it, and we don't know if Discord's magic was lost aswell, i think it was just pony magic that was lost since there are only three of the crystals, one for the each type of pony, Earth, Unicorn and Pegasus.
what i think would be a cool theory is that princess twilight had to sacrafice her friends to create the new crystals. Spike included, and if they break the crystals they will come back
In defense of Twilight taking away magic, it wasn't specified how bad the discourse between the ponies was. Getting back to basics, pegasi control all weather, earth ponies' magic generally has domain over animals and agriculture, and unicorn magic is pretty much whatever they need it to be. If tensions grew to the point of a civil war, any side could raise hell. Pegasi could bring flood, drought, unending winter, hurricanes. Earth ponies could restrict which areas had food and could possibly send the animals in the area into a frenzy. And of course, unicorns would only be restricted by their level of magical education.
At the end of the day, maybe removing magic all together was Twilight's only option to stop the fighting.
As far as the new villain goes, perhaps she is from a similar vain as Discord or the Syrians: someone who's mere presence causes chaos. Maybe her angle is that she feeds off magic that is used in anger or in ill intent, hence why she had to lay low when Twilight removed magic all together.

Maybe they could have mentioned luster dawn? Or have her be a main part, like she stillhad doubts of how friendship was the most powerful thing.
Would have been nice to see her again because her design is amazing and she also was in the position twilight was so having her be more doubtful and not accapting it right away.
So... Twilight took all the world's magic... so that implies that more than just ponies were affected. Just because ponies cant get along.

Given that the rest of the mane 6 were still alive when Twilight did it shows that she went all nutty dictator on the pony magic within 30-ish years or 40. So, she really did mess up almost immediately. But it also implies that pony kind is so easy to turn against each other. That after Chrysalis, Tierek, and Cozy almost brought Equestria to its knees, pony kind still would believe in the worst of the other pony races because of what some other pony said.
Twilight really focused on the wrong issue.

Personally I don't think that was the intended purpose of the crystals honestly I think it was more to show unity and the more they work together the stronger their magical get but it ended up backfiring away also I think there's more to the story than discord is letting on

The main question that's on my mind is: "How did Twilight and the others die?" Maybe when twilight was creating the unity crystals it took all her magic and lead to her death. Or maybe its someyhing else. I really think the writers should update us on this
Idk it doesn't even sound like Twilight to do such a thing, I mean; come on she's the princess of friendship. Think about it. We saw her fought evils and/or gave them the power of friendship. Sense when does she make such a rash(and stupid)decisions like this? I don't even blame Twilight(far as her character is written) for this. I blame the writers because they could've thought of something better; unless, Discord was dishonest about somethings or something. If that's what they are going for then that's fine.

This would definitely explain what happened between generation 4 and 5, why the pony races were divided, and probably how magic is connected to the 3 pony stones. The idea that Discord is lying or partially lying is also plausible. It does make sense for Discord to miss Fluttershy when she was gone.
