    • WHATS IN THE BOX? VINT...
I hope you enjoy this video. during the run up toD-Day 2024 i decided to build my VINTAGE 2004, AIRFIX 10300, 1/72; D-DAY 60TH ANNIVERSARY SET, and a few other D-day themed sets, so far i have completed the vehicles put am yet to touch the included figures, i am considering building a diorama over the next 11 months in time for D-Day 2025.
I have a model collection/stash of 300-400 1/72 and 1/35 kits which i have been building badly for the amusement or to the annoyance of my fellow TH-camrs, As my competence levels increase i am looking to take on different and more complex models. As a novice modeller my intention is to learn the various assembly techniques and skills required, especially that of painting, so as i can produce half decent looking models, I concluded the best way to do this is to start with something simple, personally i think the best way to learn a new skill is repetition; try, try and try again. Hopefully by completing these 33 Spitfire models i will learn a few tricks of the trade. Whilst doing this I am also hoping to improve my VERY basic TH-cam skills, so far just uploading these videos has resulted in tantrums of titanic proportions, yes unfortunately i am also techno-phobic.
Follow me on my novice modelling journey whilst I try desperately to overcome my midlife crisis. Questions and suggestions always welcome. Please like and subscribe and follow me on my ride!

Hey Andy, great to see you back mate 👍
What a fantastic collection you've built here, they look absolutely awesome mate! 👌💯 You should be really pleased with what you've achieved with this set, which in that scale isn't easy at all. We can always say we would have liked to do something better but please don't put yourself down. I'm blown away with these models, the decals have certainly brought them to life. The landing crafts look really cool and i love the jeep and trailer with all the accessories in it! The trucks and the Duk look wicked too. And the 109 is a cracker! And you said it was a bit naff! But you've done your own thing with it and it looks the biz mate!
It's great to see how much you've achieved in such a short time, it makes me feel a bit inadequate!! 🤣🤣
I'll be catching up with your other updates tomorrow and looking forward to seeing more project's from you.
Cheers Andy, thanks for posting and showing your work, its always a pleasure. Take it easy mate
    Be seeing you....

Hi Bob currently drinking Rosa Blanca lager brewed in Mallorca since 1927, a 3.5% brew, i would normally avoid "light" beer but its damn tasty and at £3.50 for 4 cans it would be rude to ignore it on the shelf at Tesco. I am currently decaling all those Japanese planes i did the other month, then i am definitely going to finish all the other stuff i have started, then i will build some new stuff. At some point i will get around to unpacking the 20 or so boxes of new stuff that has accumulated in the spare room also.

@@TheNoviceModeller that does sound good and a good price. Yes I've been buying more than building too, Just can't resist some on going sales and eBay lately. You've inspired me to look for vintage kits I want to build again, or didn't know about, some of them are priced pretty high but There are some good deals too. . Putting on decals has never been the most fun part for me, but they've got to go on to complete the kit.. Sounds like you'll be catching up on box reviews. Always good to know what's going on across the pond. Cheers Bob.

Hi Andy , nice to have you back. You shouldn't do yourself down mate. You have done a good job. Some advice. When painting yellows put a white undercoat on first. The figures , well now you are seeing the difference between 72nd and 76th. The Airfix kits are the old 76th scale. Also the Airfix kit are from their classic range so none of them have glazing. The DUKW turned out well as did the triple duece truck. The jeep came out well. The tracks on the Sherman are a nightmare and thats well known. I replaced mine with a more accurate set , the same applies to the Sd.kfz 7. Again its because they are from the classics range. But hey these kits are nearly as old as me. Ancient in other words. But overall I think that you should be pleased with what you have done. As for the figures for the boats , well cut off their legs and glue some plasticard blocks in there place. Paint them black as once there in the boats you won,t be able to see it. Anyway well done buddy.

Hi Brian, oh i am not doing myself down...... too much i am just a bit self analytical and know that certain aspects can be improved, but it will come eventually LOL. Oh yes the kits are old the SDKFZ has 1967 printed on the bottom of seating compartment LOL. I am indeed pretty pleased overall i do like the DUKW and the Academy amphibian, have a 1/35 amphibian on order may add a DUKW also. Yes white undercoat that wouldve been a logical choice though to be fair i only decided on the yellow nose for the 109 at the last minute as i wanted to try it out as i have heard that yellow can be a bit of a pest. Will be uploading the other D-day builds shortly.

Been a real busy boy, Andy🙂 As I've said, you've got the basics mastered. I would suggest trying your hand with a little weathering--perhaps the crappy 109 would make a good test bed for some exhaust stains and chipping around the wing roots and access panels. BTW-Luftwaffe aircraft never had their propeller tips painted. RLM 70 all the way. All in good time, of course. In the meantime grab a pint or bottle of wine and celebrate your effort. I'll look forward to the diorama on the 80th anniversary of D Day.

Cheers Alan, i am writing this with a fresh can of lager open. I am thinking of doing a bit of weathering though on the landing craft, seems to me that the large flat-ish panels would be pretty good for practicing, i have a rust effect but no oily wash so might have to get one ordered, the 109 perhaps. The painting scheme for the 109 was completely out of my head, i have a bunch of interesting 109's to get to eventually so will be a bit more correct with painting and detailing those.

Yes well this is a bit of a mish mash of a kit released in 2004 in conjunction with Heller who produced an identical version called Code Overlord 52604, the instructions for this are Heller and all the kit codes are Heller, i am just about to upload the Airfix D-Day sea assault a50156 which i believe is current, Jeep and trailer and the landing craft which are present in both kits are different and in my opinion far better, the figures however are identical. Was fun to build, hopefully by next D-day i will have got to the figures and some sort of diorama base.

You've done a nice job on everything here, Andy! I, too, have had problems with tracks from Airfix. I built their VC 1/76 WWI Mk I tank and the 88mm gun tractor, and the tracks weathered-up beautifully. However, when I built the Panther, they started to break down as soon as I applied paint, and it didn't matter if it was water- (Vallejo) or solvent-based acrylic (Tamiya). I can't get too upset, though: Like Popeye, they are what they are and is what they is... 🤣 If it can't be fixed, you can always incorporate it into a damaged/destroyed armour diorama... Looks well-worth the £80. How many hours of fun (except for the tracks) did you get out of it? 🤔 That's how I measure value... 😁 Oh, and are you on Scalemates?

Hello there @jaws848 and thanks for watching. I think the best thing about being a novice is that i dont expect or desire perfection, i do have a tendency to rush which i am trying to beat out of myself, most of the things that i am unhappy with are because of not being patient or setting myself an unreasonable target. however i see every mistake as a lesson learned. I will be uploading a bunch of completed aircraft builds over the next few days, there are many mistakes on these builds that i could have rectified, but i see them as tools or reminders for the future of things i need to be more careful about. I am generally happy with what i am building at the moment but know that with time and practice i will become better at this modelling malarkey, luckily i have an abundance of kits to practice on.

@TheNoviceModeller the thing i find with the so called "experts" and perfectionist snobs is they have no problem telling others that their skills are not good and shouldn't be in the hobby while conviently forgetting that they too were once a novice who didn't know 1 end of a paint brush from the other

LOL when i started this channel in February i basically speed built Spitfires in pretty much 15 minutes, my reasoning was that i wanted to do some quick cheap easy builds for painting practice, i received a fair few withering comments and to be honest on occasion i slapped a few people down as well quite frankly my kits, my money, my time, my channel......don't like it don't watch. i have also attacked a p51 mustang with a Black & Decker sander and called Malcolm Reynold's beloved 1990's New Zealand Ventura Spitfire kits garbage. This whole Modelling and youtubing malarkey is a whole lot of fun and i am quite happy to take the compliments with the advice and the negativity, luckily most of what i get is pretty positive.
