Hello. I agree on the electrolytic capacitors. All the SMD ones must be replaced before they leak, not only those at the mute circuitry. But I Never had any issue on the keys (just opened the keyb assy months ago). As you stated, they don't have glue; they seem to have been greased, but it doesn't mean problems, at least in my unit.
All the other issues (mod lever, ribbon), seems to be from a bad aged synth. Mine works flawless.
(seems the video whas shot early in the morning or late at night, lots of yawning ;-)

I ended up with this JP-8000. As the update notes, these don't have the "red glue of death" problems like the JD-800, since they don't have weighted keys with epoxy that can melt. On this one, the lithium grease on the keys was starting to get gummy, and the key bed frame was a bit warped, so they would get stuck on the return.
It's pretty easy to use something about the diameter of a ballpoint pen on the key hinges to spread and pop them off, then use hot water and soap/degreaser to clean them. You'll want to clean and apply new lithium grease on the guide tab towards the front of the keybed, and at the hinge point. A huge tube of lithium grease is cheap at any home improvement store.

Can't decide what triggers me more - the yawning or the demomstration in the end. But still... Thanks for the Information! Had the same problem with the output capacitors.

Yup. My keys stick. Icky glue everywhere underneath. Also, the oscillators sticks on, leaving my patches to just start swinging way up and way down. And there’s no way to stop unless I turn it off and on.

I have had mine for years and it still works great. I don't play it every day but it gets turned on 5 days a week (it's on a master power switch in my studio) for the last several years.

They are only now starting to go bad. Mine is the canary in the coal mine.

Thanks for the video. But about the Gaia recommendation, it doesn’t compare to the sound or synthesis abilities of the JP-8000. Even with just it’s supersaw waveform itself, you can’t adjust its shape or depth like the JP. I’d recommend a JP-8080 like you said. Just not the Gaia.

i just a JP-8000 from Japan and got a set of 105C caps to replace the old set...keys were perfectly fine...the symptoms of bad main board caps is low or no LR output and also distortion through headphones...output caps can be replaced as well but not essential...btw the power supply can be switched from 100 to 120V with a simple solder connection switch...basically do your research before buying and find a tech or do it yourself...it's an incredible synth, part of trance history and to me it's worth keeping just mho...sleep well

I bought mine new back in 96. My keys are horribly stuck right now and have to get it fixed.

Ran out of memory for video, at the end I said "it's so sad that this synth suffers from all of these issues"

I feel for you and oblige you to get it fixed, because it is a great synth.

Can you lubricate between the keys with some kind of compatible lubricant, maybe?
Recapping and battery replacement aren't too hard to do usually - what kind of caps are they?
When were they built mainly, I wonder? There were many bad caps in circulation a few years back.
    Nice kittehs, BTW. 👍

They were built in 96 through late 90s. Even after some keys have been replaced they still stick. The tech has been doing repair for decades is still is having trouble with it. The capacitors is actually the easier fix, but a more common issue.

Hang On; By the way, sorry foor keeping you up so late.
Is this a report on an endemic serious issue with design and/or manufacture of this model?
or is it a vague list of things that have gone wrong with your specific unit?, without referencing any othjers?
It cannot be any younger than 20 years old, who knows where yours has been, how many times it has been dropped, how many weeks it has spent the day in direct sunlight, what the humidity fluctuations are... these things don't matter, till after 20 years of regular use..
BTW ... why do you keep talking about the "Red Glue Issue"? IT does not affect this model, or any of the Jupiters.
These are very well designed and built machines, and IMHO will last decades if treated right.
Thiis report is of no use to anyone, unless you are selling them your unit. JP-8000s in general do not seem to suffer from the problems you are stating here.
    Thanks for the Viodeo
    ;)

Too much grease accumulation from Eiffel 65 copycats. That's not a stab at you - but at all of those shitty, greasy, Italian closet case techno artists between 1999-2003 that overused the supersaw on these things.
