Linda is nowadays kind of "frozen", she was one of the first ones to protest against the Irak war and she did it at a Vegas casino that happen to be "government friendly".It was a gutsy move, she was expelled from the casino and ever since she has worked less and less, eventually everybody will know that she was right to say what she had said.Long live Linda Ronstadt.
I met Linda, a couple different times, beautiful, inside and out. Amazing smile, and eyes, confident, yet humble. I wish, I would have had the confidence to ask her out!
Newman and Ronstadt - such a great combination. Her powers of subtly, restraint and power, of digging beneath the lyric, have now been almost forgotten in an age of American Idol vocal acrobatics without meaning...
You see this too Miss DA; LInda's EYES SPARKLE! SPARKLING EYES! No other singer has this!; voice that soars with the eagles and then melts you away in velvet. Femininity, innocence, purity, grace . . .The Most Beautiful Lady The GOOD LORD ever made! STUNNING!!!
Ain't a shame that we gotta grow old? Here's Randy and Linda, skin all aglow, looking slim'n'trim, top of their game. Very, very nice. At this moment, death becomes them. Today? Not so much.
If they have figured out a way to avoid the aging process god bless them. Linda Ronstadt has been one of the most soulful contributors to American music whose songs I've love since Different Drum, a Michael Nesmith tune I think you can hear him singing in this venue. This was a good recording and video she looked stunning in that strapless drass. I like her later recordings of standards. This one is a gem, and the keys are as you'd expect - just right.
That’s very kind of you,I always love Linda, and to me,she is a very genuine, loving person and artist, that’s why she has been so loved and supported in her career, also we always feel she is just one of us,love Linda forever
Destinyatk this song was a forecast for me. My Navy veteran dad passed. I traveled to his gravesite and back home alone. This one stays in the chambers of my heart.
@@Jennirn2u my father also was a sailor who met my mother in Dallas 9 months later I was born in fort worth, don't know how he got in Dallas because my earliest memories of him were at a naval base in Florida. But the song certainly strikes a chord.
If I had ever seen Ms. Ronstadt live, this is the venue I would've chosen to experience her beauty and talent. Mr. Newman is as "eclectic" as Ms. Ronstadt. As I type, a CD of his musical "Faust" is on its way; just saw the film "Marriage Story" and saw his name roll by on the credits as writing the score.
Linda Ronstadt and Randy Newman are about my two favorite musicians ever. When I went away to college in 1972, everybody was playing "Sail Away" where I mistakenly place this song. It's actually from "Little Criminals" in 1977. Another great album, Linda was always just wonderfully generous with the people she worked with. Pipes for the ages, too. This song is like a perfect little poem. I love these people.
She always picked a song because she could find a face to sing to... then she would sing it to that person....such was her gift.. and it was taken too soon.. God find a cure for her disease... I'm waiting patiently for her to get better and sing to all of us once more...love you linda
takes everthing i have to keep from crying when i hear this version. she sings Randy Newman so well....i wish she could do a album of nothing but his stuff:)
Pairing Linda with Randy is just so natural - and this proves it. His songs have a beautiful poignancy and edge to them that fits so well with her voice - a voice that is at once powerful and vulnerable. Perfect! ...but shoot - there I go a ramblin' on agin'...
More beautiful now than ever. Humbly acknowledges her state in life without regrets, simply gratitude. I have never been more joyously shocked than when I heard her reconcile her meager human estate with all the blessings she has received. There's not one soul in a million that will shine as bright in decline as Linda.
I grew up listening to and loving Peter & Gordon, The Beatles, and lovely Linda Ronstandt! Brings back memories of those beautiful "hippie" and love-filled years. Thank you for posting these wonderful videos! You've made an old lady immensely happy...
I agree totally. When people suffer from a disease they will understand it better...My wife has lyme disease which killed her thyroid and she gained a lot of weight and vey rapidly. To me she looks great and even if Linda has gained some weight..she looks FABULOUS!
I started listening to Linda when I was 17. She is truly beautiful inside and out. She has a very bad disease but she keeps on trying and never complains. God bless u linda and I am now 76 and I'm still playing everyone of yr albums❤❤❤ jean
I've been wondering why this has become my present favorite tune...it's so short and to the point it's difficult to imagine what could have been added but since Randy wrote it I ain't gonna worry too much over it, favorite writer, favorite songstress, guess I'll just learn it and attempt to do it justice in my own way . The other part is how much I miss Linda's presence .She could melt the heart of any man !
First time I'd heard this lovely song - a very poignant song from a very talented, though somewhat irreverent, songwriter. And Linda captures it wonderfully. No surprise there. Besides having one of the most beautiful, and powerful voices, she also spans such a breadth of musical variety and emotion so naturally.
Here I am lost in the wind 'Round in circles sailing Like a ship that never comes in Standing by myself Sing a sad song for a good man Sing a sad song for me Sing a sad song for the sailor A thousand miles from the sea Here I am along on the plain Sun's going down It's starting to rain Papa we'll go sailing
Thanks for this great posting! I've been a big fan of Newman for all my life and play on piano just for fun his songs. Also this one I have played many times, a very unknown song I believe from the album 'Little Criminals'. Linda fits in very well with her beautiful voice. Also your other posting Real Emotional Girl is fantastic stuff, maybe that tune suits her even more. I've enjoyed it, thanks again!
where has that been all my life?
Imagine if Randy should had written a whole album for her. "Ronstadt sings Newman"
Possibly the best female singer and one of the two best writers (the other being Prine) in my life time. I’m so lucky just witness stuff like this.

You are so right in everything you said!!
Truer words were never spoken.
Couldn't have said it better
Amazing song I heard it many years ago and saw this speical it might of been on public TV at the time
Linda, you are the best ever. Thanks so much for everything. ❤
She was a treasure. No pretentious self-absorbed crap in her voice. Clear, strong and genuinely sad. As a friend said "We all wanted to hold her".
Still do. ❤
She's Still A Treasurer

Great song by the Master Randy Neumann. Linda in her absolute prime. Thanks whoever found this. It's a treasure!
Just Randy and Linda at the piano. Wow.
A great combo. I wish it could go on.
She was haunting sometimes. Gorgeous heartbreaking voice.

very nice song , my dad was a sailer he was in the navy. I wished I'd knew of this song, I would have definitely sang it at his funeral.

hauntingly beautiful, two born musicians

Randy's dad and uncles composed many scores for movies. Brilliance runs in the Newman family.

How could you beat this combination? Linda is beautiful, and her rendition of this song is haunting. Man, does Randy know how to write and play.
Touching song, toching voice ! Both are an artist of high level. Thank you Linda for a lifetime !

Stunningly beautiful.

I'd love to see a Randy Newman night on American Idol. Let's hear Sanjaya interpret this!
After all these years I still find myself fighting back the tears every time I listen to this song. Love you, Linda.
