Bill. If you get some silicone spray and spray the bottom rubber seal on your garage door, the ice will not stick to it an freeze your door down. That salt you are throwing on the concrete will soon ruin the finish on the crete. I think it's hard on a machine to do those cold starts. Diesels like to be warm to start. I always keep my Case skidsteer plugged in. Good vid my friend.
Bill you should take an old lawn mower and weld a curved shet of steel to it to make a small snow plow so when it snow just a little bit so you don't have to use the 110 tlb
Cold temps like this are really hard on batteries especially when starting on mornings. If you have any foam camping sleeping mats ( or any closed sell foam ) neoprene works well too ( old wetsuit material ) cut sections of foam to cover the sides and top / bottom if possible to make a sort of "jacket" for the battery - it will greatly increase the lifespan and you won't have to worry about dead batteries on cold mornings. Made some jackets from sleeping mats and been using them for 10+ years on vehicle batteries, never had a single dead battery since. Those batteries of yours must be terribly expensive !!
With cinder block walls it doesn't matter if you insulate on the interior or exterior side although spray foam is your only option for the exterior side.... I would spray some insulation up on the outside wall that's on the inside of the front garage then insulate the inside of the side garage. That way you've have the least crap to move out of the way. Just make sure the tops of all your cinder block walls are capped. Air movement inside the walls will drastically reduce their r value.

After you changed the windows to triple-layer glass, you could try to insulate the walls from the outside, there are blocks of some styrofoam-type stuff (but it's not white, more like a graphite-gray, because of something mixed in there for the insulating properties) that you just glue to the walls. The wall will still become warm, but it will not leak any heat to the outside any more. But these things are like 4-6 inches thick, so you will see it on the outside of the building and will lose a little space on the inner back wall of the front garage.

Coldest I've ever done was -55F (-48C) in Fairbanks, AK one winter when visiting my folks. My truck tires would freeze with a flat spot on the bottom. Would have to drive down the road a bit for the rubber to warm up some to get flexible enough to lose that flat spot. Made for a real bumpy ride! Fortunately where I live in Anchorage it rarely get's colder than -20F.
Getting there, we have had about a week of below -30C this year bottoming out at -33C. But its funny that we get used to it. When it got warmer like -20C it started feel really warm.

Bill, you have been getting requests on smashing the Buick, I have a Chevy Lumina and the Buick and the Lumina has basically the same transmission in them. Before you do something as drastic as smashing or junking it, being that the transmission is electric powered by the on board ECU, check the wiring plug on the transmission to make sure the connection isn't corroded or just not making a good connection. My Lumina had the reverse to quit working, just the opposite of your Buick (forward) and that was the problem with my Lumina.
Any time you plug the block heater in make sure you unplug the Block heater before you start her as the vibration after the engine starts is the number one reason why block heaters fail.

If you really need to use these diesel machines when it's that cold I'd definitely plug them in, the oil is so thick that you'll be putting tons of wear on the engine if you don't. There wasn't that much snow to plow anyways so good thing you can get away with it not working lol
