even as someone who already really enjoys p1 and doesnt really mind much of its issues, seeing a remake that expands on it (storywise and gameplay wise) would be great
Yes. There was a leak that after release of P3R(2024), Atlus prioritizing on P6 and several other spin-off games. There might be a 2024 reveal of P6. Then after P6 is released, there might be remakes of P1 and P2.
the characters in this game are easily the most underrated, maki and nanjo go through more development in 20 hours than some modern persona characters have in 100
While I do disagree with your conclusion on the OST, I'm always happy to see someone really give classic Persona an earnest shot. I always end up recommending P1 not because I think most people will like it (they tend not to), but because I think anyone who does like it will think about it for years to come, I really do believe it's a near perfect expression of the ideas attempted. Here's a fun fact: In the PS1 version, the first thing you see, before even the opening, is Zhuangzi's Butterfly Parable, a poem about the ambiguity of identity and the fuzzy boundaries between every single aspect that makes up You. Then at the very end, after everything else, you see Rene Descartes' classic line "Cogito, ergo sum" -> "I think, therefore I am", a simple and straightforward declaration of one's identity.
Thanks for checking out the video! Persona 1 was a game that I became deeply fascinated in, and the original PS1 version is something I definitely plan on diving into deeper in the future.
@@koreanbf8303 I find that when people talk about the differences between the two versions, they only talk about the music and localization. The sound design and presentation is also different. The original game was much more moody and atmospheric. Did you know that when the battle ends, the battle theme will play itself out? For presentation, the cutscenes are also different. They're pretty surreal and minimal. Did you know that the original world map was fully 3D? All and all, I am glad Persona 1 has gotten more love over the years. It felt like just a few years ago, everyone just agreed this is the worst Persona game. You'll find that it actually has a bit of depth and set a lot of staples for the series. If what that leaker said was true, we might finally get proper P1/2 remakes! Speaking of, do you plan on covering Persona 2 as well?
@@OldEnemy1 That's pretty interesting! I do plan on making on Persona 2 as well, but it probably won't be for a bit because I need to complete my full playthrough of the duology, and considering this video took around a month to make, the Persona 2 video will definitely take longer.
I think where the PS1 music outshines the PSP music is the dungeon/area and character themes. But I agree that most P1 fans hate on the PSP music too much, even if it doesn't fit the game quite right the music is still great on its own. Also, not enough people realize how much P1 and P2 inspired the later games, they really wouldn't be able to exist without their predecessors. Great video
what a coincidence. i recently replayed persona 1 (both routes). i definitely remember feeling what you felt on my first playthrough. while i don't enjoy it as much as i used to (it kinda loses its magic on repeat playthroughs), i still think it's worth experiencing at least once. good video.
And Devil Summoner (1995) from Sega Saturn, even when Devil Summoner and Revelations Persona were best selling games from Atlus in Japan until ... Persona 5.
This might be a hot take but P1 is what P3 is to people. A beautiful dark story that you think years down the line. P3 just didn't hit for me becoming more of a it didn't understandable what made P1 & even 2 fantastic games
I've always related Persona 1 & 2 with Yugioh Season Zero. P1&2 are Season Zero and P3, P4, &P5 are all the Duelist Kingdom and onward. Sortve feels like Atlus wants to keep the two generations separate to some degree and act as if the Idea of Persona was fully formed with 3 and onward since that's what really caught on with a majority of fans. Similar to what happened with yugioh turning into a series about card games after that became its biggest aspect.
Very glad to see a review like this. This is a game I'm absolutely not gonna play unless it gets remastered (which seems like a legitimate possibility lately), but I'd always heard people talk about how much Philemon has to do with the entire series, so I kinda just had to... not know, lol
Fun Fact: Tadashi Satomi is the OG writer of first two Persona games and some of the SMT games. After he left Atlus, some of his most recent works are Caligula Effect. Having completed both CE games, while they are not as good as Persona games, but solid imo. And the sequel, CE2 is a nice upgrade over CE: Overdose.
Recently, there was news from a credible leaker that Atlus is interested in Persona 1 and 2 remakes, there's still hope!

We're so back

I hope so as long as they don’t mess it up

Thanks for the comment! I've seen some of your persona videos and it's cool to hear your input
Honestly I hope this video blows up. I love seeing the history of popular series!
I just downloaded the ISO for the first game. I'm definitely considering playing the whole series. Great video!

Yeah, that's a cool way of looking at it. Funnily enough, I also made video on YuGiOh season 0 as well th-cam.com/video/WdKzxiRBYz4/w-d-xo.html
Persona 2 (IS) and (EP) are my favourite games of all time ❤
I saw an edit of this video's thumbnail that showed persona 4, i was so fucking mad i had to see this for real

Great video man hopefully more attention gets brought to persona 1 and 2 so atlus sees there is still interest in them
Yeah, I really hoping we can see any kind of inclusion in the future so newer fans can experience these games

Ive played the Innocent Sin remake on PSP, but havent touched the Eternal Punishment portion. I've at least started P1, but I like P2 better overall.
Uhhhh based department! Fr this is the most meaningful game for me
