LOVE this. We are constantly trying to implement customs from the sacred liturgical year that has evolved since the coming of Christ. It adds such a depth to celebrations rather than just going with the secular holidays that the world promotes for the sake of commercialism. My favorite author for this is Maria Von Trapp
I haven't done this as often as I'd like, but around Christmas (or easter) I've had my kidd make cards or help decorate cookies and had my kids deliver them to the elders at the nursing home. To show them how just bringing some happiness to another human is so much more rewarding than receiving. My heart especially goes out to those in the nursing homes who may not have families who spend time with them.
Lisa and Jennifer, thank you for this! This is by far my most favorite interview yet. I had not heard of Jennifer before and this interview just spoke so much life and hope into my heart ❤ I'm a mom of 7, ranging in age from 25 to 3. My two oldest are special needs, some days I feel like i just get the minimum done (laundry, dishes, meals on the table). And you know, some days that is enough isnt it? Jennifer, I cant thank you enough for being transparent and real, one of my struggles is arguing with my husband on a monthly basis (its been compounded in perimenopause)! I feel so bad about it, I needed the reminder to forgive myself, I tend to be ok at the repenting to God and apologizing to my husband but not letting myself move forward in hope and freedom. Just knowing Im not alone has helped immensly. Thank you!! You are both such blessings, Im thanking God for you. ❤
My mum was very religious, my dad an atheist. My mum would invite church people to our home a lot, we would spend every week with church members. Meanwhile their relationship dwindled as they didn’t prioritise spending time together or time as a family. When we grew up they split. I highly recommend to always always put your husband first and family time.
Sharing your light with others is an egalitarian endeavor. Give it to whomever you encounter and you will receive it back from surprising places and sometimes so much more than you gave out originally. I befriend nearly everyone I meet and have yet to regret it. Not because it always works out or everyone is like me or everyone befriends me back. NOPE. I don't regret it because of the person I am when I am behaving that way. My behavior is who I am in real time and I want to be loving and kind. Another side effect is that people are almost always kind to me. I treat them well and they treat me well. I am 47 and this all shows itself to be true more and more every year. My faith is expressed in my kindness to others. It is my mission.
These roles men and women have work together and compliment one another! The whole family benefits and God created it this way. The parents and children are blessed.
I love how expressive Jennifer is. I was very engaged in this conversation and enjoyed it. Definitely the thing about abuse of children happens by trusted people. I have known some, and it is rare I hear other say it (I know several who were abused by people in the church). I miss homeschooling my older kids so dearly. Just a couple more years and I will do it again when my baby is of age.
Such a mindful, encouraging podcast! I love the emphasis of Christ in our homes and mothering and also love hearing you talk about homeschooling. I'd love to hear more on these as you are willing and able. Thanks so much, as always, Lisa! You are a light shining into so many homes!
Loved this podcast Lisa such good solid sound advice. Lots of problems I encountered in school with my children was peer pressure. We teach them to be good human beings; then they see other ways children play, act etc ( not neccessarily bad ways just different) and alarm bells start to ring! I found talking to them a few minutes before dinner about how they are good and kind and thoughtful rather than xyz behavior they encountered and asking them how they should / would in certain situations they aren’t comfortable with respond or react?bringing up children is a beautiful but difficult privilege, to do it to the best of our ability is crucial in helping them make the right and sometimes difficult choices and praise the lord to give us guidance and strength 😊👍amen to that 😊 x
This was such an encouraging interview, Lisa!! I currently in the toddlerhood stage, so this interview gives me so much hope for the future regarding how I want to teach and raise my daughter (and hopefully more kids in the future!).
Please, Lisa, share more of your thoughts on topics. I know there are trolls, and I know a more neutral stance can keep follows, or the oppose, influencers wanting to be "relateble" can be so fake, but I fear worse: that being in the position you are, giving and inspiring so many, seems hollow if you cannot share your why. The world is full of people just living for the "clicks" and "likes". Great video
Check out Well-Educated Heart! So much in line with what she said about creating homes unto Christ and letting education be between God and each child. It has made such a difference in our home!
Christians of all stripes could benefit from following the liturgical calendar! I have maintained friendships with people of differing opinions, but I plan to expose my kids sparingly, because quite frankly the liberal worldview of today is largely evil and dangerous for young minds.
I fallow your other two sisters you had on your sister chat a few weeks back. But does your sister (I believe the animal farmer) have a TH-cam channel also???
All men and women are homemakers! It isn't a job, it's called being an adult!😅 Everyone, married or not, should be able to provide for itself. Giving birth doesn't make you entitled to not work and not provide for the home and kids. If something happens to the spouse that works, then you and your kids are doomed! There are plenty of men and women who think they should stay at home and not go to a job just because that's how their grandparents used to do, when the economy was way different, and now they live in poverty! You make money from TH-cam,but there are people who just see you stay at home and think they can afford that too,not knowing that your husband also doesn't work in a factory or in a supermarket!
People today are still making 1 income work. You have to accept that your life won't be fancy, but who cares. I also believe God will see us through any and all hard times.
People are responsible for their own finances and what they feel they can afford. There is no entitlement here to be a stay at home mom. If that’s what you want and can make it work then that’s wonderful. Most families with stay at home moms do have to make sacrifices. They don’t live in the biggest nicest houses, they don’t drive the most expensive vehicles and most have little to no debt, but I can say it is well worth the sacrifice. Most of our grandparents lived a simpler life. Their houses were smaller. They didn’t buy fancy vehicles and they didn’t have a garage and basement full of junk they never use, nor did they run up huge amounts of debt. You would have to make a six figure income to make it pay for a mom to have a full time job if she has to pay for childcare. Staying home you save money on fuel, clothes, childcare, and food because you can make delicious food from scratch instead of buying takeout or premade freezer food and it saves tons of money! It’s not rocket science.

The Benedict Option and Rod Dreher's newer book Live Not by Lies are amazing must reads. So glad she mentioned that.

Thank you so much!!
Such a great episode! I would love to invite you over Lisa, we live in Europe though but I think we would be great friends!❤
Thank you Lisa.
There's so much good in the world! But there's also much evil! I believe the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world, look at Mary.
Thank you for this episode ❤
Thanks for this wisdom! Wish I had instilled sacred practices with my children. We know now religion doesn't work for new generation
You should interview Marlene from the Well Educated Heart
Great episode!

Which Gatto books would you recommend reading first?
