This is a Black American classic song right here!!!! This song will always be played at our cookouts, weddings, graduations, repasses, anniversary celebrations. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are a national treasure.
A lot of people don't realize that both of the versus are identical in this song word for word, but were sung completely different. It justifies how legendary Jam & Lewis are as producers/songwriter's, how talented Alexander and Cherrelle are as artists, and how timeless 80's music is.
I saw Jam and Lewis discuss this in an interview. After all of these years, I was like, “Wow! I never notice that”!

I remember singing this song as a kid having NO IDEA what I was singing about! I crack up at the intro because of the SHADE! "See you haven't changed... It's good to see you anyway." I imagine an eye roll between those two lines. 🤣

Alexander O’Neal had one of the best voices that I’ve heard. His songs especially his slow jams were quality. I still bump his joints.

One of my all time favorite R&B duets. Their version of "Never Knew Love Like This" which was a bit hit, for me is just a little better. But if anyone thinks this is better I won't argue. Alexander had one of the great voices, and the tragedy of drug addiction ruined what should have been a great career.
