Great videos thank you! I am dealing with this right now on a new build. Lots of room in the basement and 9' ceilings, but not enough headroom to turn the stairs in a 11'x4' opening on the first floor. Looking at stealing some headroom from the adjacent pantry floor but this is less than ideal as well. I just watched a bunch of your videos and now I believe my limitations are real
Hey Greg, fantastic video, as always. Landings are very effective for use when you don't have a great deal of lateral length. (Also great for old timers like me when stairs start becoming difficult. That landing has saved my knees a few times!)
I have the exact staircase and was looking to create a small room underneath. Anyone know how much it would cost to hire someone just to take down the walls and make sure load bearings aren't removed and if need be to put some up ?
Hi Greg, I was looking for email to send question but haven't found it. 😕 I have a 7 steps straight staircase and a four legged old fellow who can't do them anymore. I want to add a landing on exhisting steps about halfway. Any suggestions?
Still trying to figure mine out ! 42" wide x 7' 4" finished size with 8' ceiling 9' to top of 2nd floor! Probably have to be a spiral stair? Great video!
Hey Greg Do you think you can assist me if I send to you the stair well dimensions? I have an existing stair but I keep on banging my head every time I go up or down
No I don't, you're on your own there. I do offer design services but they're rather expensive, so I would suggest checking out some of our stair building books at the website for more information.
May I ask the dimensions of the Last Staircase with the winder setup? Can't seem to hear it clearly from the audio nor saw it in the video itself. Apologies for the trouble in advance and thank you. 😇😇😇😇
I would love to provide you with those measurements, but don't have them. I will make a video in the future and attach it to this one, when it is made.
I have a Split Foyer house, and would like to extend the foyer. The stairs are in the same shape/ design as your model. How would I go about extending the foyer/landing area? When I open the front door the door is about two inches away from the staircase. Ideas? Thank you in advance!
I would need to see some pictures of your project for more information. You can get our email address at our website to send the pictures or create a link to a video I can watch..
Greg: Great video! What do you recommend if the width is also tight? Cut or box/housed stringers? Should the stringers for the opposing runs be side by side, or overlapped in the same veritcal plain? What about the railing?
Yes you can put the stairways next to each other, but if you don't have enough room and you're working in tight spaces, you won't be able to build a stairway that will meet most building codes. For example if I only have a 5 foot with and I'm going to have a set of stairs on each side, making them 2 1/2 foot wide each, I will still be able to walk up and down the stairway, but it won't meet the 36 inch or 3 foot minimum width requirement my most building codes.
Most spiral staircases are built in tight spaces and you might have a difficult time installing a regular straight stairway, Winder stairway or stairway landing.
Usually it's difficult to replace a spiral stairway with any other type of stairway to fit in the area. I'm not suggesting it can't be done, you might need to modify the upper floor or lower floor to make it work.
This is what i was searching for!
Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful!
Exactly what i have been looking for. Will share with my constructor. Thank you so much

You're welcome and the pantry sounds like a good place to get headroom.
some great ideas
Thank you! 😊
Extremely helpful for the novice. Thanks!
You're welcome and thanks for letting us know how much you liked the video.
Head room is most important topic in this video. Thanks for information
True

Hey you found one of my other channels, great and small spaces aren't easy to work stairs into all the time.
I have the exact staircase and was looking to create a small room underneath. Anyone know how much it would cost to hire someone just to take down the walls and make sure load bearings aren't removed and if need be to put some up ?

My email address can be found at the bottom of all our website pages by clicking on contact link. I say build the landing or ramp or both.

Here's a link to the website that might help. www.homebuildingandrepairs.com/remodeling/stairs/index.html
Thank you so much. your explanations were very clear .
You're very welcome and thanks for watching and learning.
I think this video just helped my remodel design. And ur measurements were almost dead on what I had.
Great
Hey Greg
Do you think you can assist me if I send to you the stair well dimensions?
I have an existing stair but I keep on banging my head every time I go up or down
I can try, but no guarantees.
Thanks for helpful video. Can it be durable as an L-shape instead with most amount of treads from the floor to the landing?
Yes, absolutely
Perfect!!!
Thanks
thanx - most clearly presented - verbally and visually. TOPS.
[next - you probably already have - rise and run dimensions]
Thanks for watching and the nice comment, but I couldn't tell if you are asking a question. Are you looking for rise and run dimensions?
nope, all set :)
Thanks, very helpful.
What if one is building from scratch on small space.. Do you have a demo on the best staircase to use?
No I don't, you're on your own there. I do offer design services but they're rather expensive, so I would suggest checking out some of our stair building books at the website for more information.
Thanks, it's very helpful Video,
How can I manage this type of stairs in Area (8'wide, and 10' length),
Please give me a reply
I charge over $200 per hour for designing projects and if you're interested, go to the website and email us to let us know.

Sounds good, but I would need to learn how to speak or at least write in that language.
Speak in meters please !!!
I wish I could, but it's all going to be feet and inches until I figure out a simple way to make videos with the metric system.
Do the conversions yourself. I have to when I watch people’s videos that speak in the metric system, and I don’t complain.
