The Formentor had a bigger price jump in 2023 compared to a relatively small one with Ateca.. They used to be the same price basically. I think it is worth the couple thousand more as the interior is genuinely up there with the very best as far as contrast stitching & soft touch quality, and THE best for the price range, whereas the Ateca is based on an old SEAT car and is very bland and a bit hard inside. But the Formentor was just too low for me with my 3 dissolving lower discs to get in and out of. But heck it's a nice car. I love it. But I love my Ateca too. Also note, the Formentor is so close to the Golf R and Tiguan R tune of the EA888, but at a much lower price, especially compared to Tiguan R (and fully loaded). AND available to buy! Also the fact you don't like the blue leather with contrast copper stitching just means you are dags LOL. That's one of the hottest looks in any car today. You could have mentioned the stunning ambient lighting at night. And the 4.72 smokes the Tiguan R's best of about 5.1, so there you go. If you don't mind how low it is, get the Formentor. If you want something that sits a bit higher, the Ateca is still a wonderful car and handles like a go kart.
I think at some stage I personally realised you can’t really have it all. There’s going to be cars out there that don’t feel like an appliance like a RAV4, but may come with the risk of being a niche brand. Honestly after a long line of trusty Japanese cars, we did want to expand our options beyond the usual suspects and we ended up with the lovely Mk4 Octavia that shares its platform with this car. Otherwise if you want something vaguely exciting that isn’t a VW Group car, and isn’t going to cost an arm and a leg for the luxury badge, then I’d say possibly a Mazda CX-5 Turbo - but I still gawk at the $55-60k price tag for what is essentially a previous gen car that’s not on the same level as the new gen 3 or CX-30, the former which we also own. Unfortunately, Honda’s just dropped the ball in Australia the past half decade or so, which removes another option.
Took one for a decent test drive. So wanted to be sold on it, but at 6'3", couldn't get comfortable. And the demo had a few electrical gremlins. Not a good start.
Partner got this can't believe it's quicker than my R wagon. But the exhaust is just crap indeed. We have the optional Brembro but it does not feel quite confident, maybe caused by the bad tires T005. It does not feel quick when you drive. Exhaust mods and better tires will make it perfect.
It’s quick, looks good on the outside but blue seats remind me of a Datsun Bluebird interior from the late 70s 🤣. And that instrument cluster……..fark me, when will people make one that looks good, it’s like the Ogre, hideous. My apologies to the Ogres out there 😃
I highly doubt it mate, the latest M3 is claimed at 3.5 sec to 100km/h, so there is no chance it’s quicker to 60km/h. You’re talking almost a second and a half difference in acceleration times which is massive in a performance test. It would be equal to the S3 though since it shares the same engine with that and the Golf R (slightly tuned with an extra 7kW) albeit in a slightly heavier body. VW Golf R/Audi S3 at 4.8 sec Cupra Formentor VZx 4.9 sec
@@russell3436 1 year ago, same channel, RWD only, the M3 Competition took 2.26s. The M3 Competition xDrive would be even faster to 60km/h. Anyway, I am yet to understand how so many people get their panties wet for straightline speeds especially with EVs.
@@russell3436 Those are manufacturers claims. As per the tests they've done on this channel, this vehicle is actually quicker to 60 and 100. It also stops quicker, and has the exact 1/4 time as the S3, although a slightly slower trap speed.

I got mine in white and I love it 🙂 Fun to drive and practical

I’m glad you tested it without launch control as the difference is substantial.
In normal driving most people won’t use launch control much at all.
@Performance drive , what were the glitches with the instrument cluster ? Did it get sorted easily?
Please test the Formentor VZ as well
This is VZ
Great car, I would be concerned about the reliability and support. Being backed by VW is not a glowing endorsement in my opinion

Just wondering any chance of testing Audi a4 45tfsi Quattro?
a rapid little package !
Possibly the feul used in the other of VW products same engine effected there performance sulfer content too high, you must of got a good batch
Formentor VZx has an AWD but Leon VZx only had FWD not AWD like the Golf R

It sounds like it really loads the clutches up when doing the launch control :/

Thats amazing, Its quicker to 60kph than a BMW M3 and to 100kph than a Audi S3.
On what planet or how old would such slow M3 be?

Why not VZ5? This is crap, slightly upraised Golf R 😂
@Tanya Spotting so what?
@@eyesrightout it’s not coming to Australia because it’s built in LHD only
@@djjezza And you, unlike UK and Japan do not let them to partake in LHT?
VZ is nice daily drive. VZ5 has slightly different power curve, so it is not comfortable for use in cities.
@eyesrightout Says the guy who has never driven or owned a Cupra Formentor of any kind. This is so much better than a Gold R.
