      The game got review bombed as a result of the game taking an actual historical war crime commited by the US and attributing it to the Russians in the campaign. I think its pretty deserved even if the game is good.

    Regarding difficulty, most modern games reduce your health and boost enemy health and damage at higher difficulty settings. The AI itself does not become smarter or better, from what I've observed.

      Copied my comment but "I'm confused at the whole SBMM debacle in general. Don't you want people of similar skill? Also, it's not guaranteed that you will get someone like that. Rank isn't much of an indicater(Saw a lvl 135 get 4-25). I always hear the term sweat go around. In the fighting game community, if someone used this language, it'd raise eyebrows and we'd dismiss 'em or call 'em scrubs. We just want matchmaking to be region based, something that's slowly dissolving in recent years. Netcode is too important for fighting games. CoD gets Xplay to keep its playerbase going, something we also wish fgs had due to lack of players. Every non-FG issue like MTX ie:all were thing perpetrated by the FGC but no one plays FGs alot to talk about." I just think SBMM and reverse boosting might be odd but that's the internt and clout chasing for them plays.

    • @Musically_Declined
      @Musically_Declined 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adelewa Olomola you can’t blame the game for that, when it comes to a multiplayer environment it’s because you’re good. Even then you could challenge yourself with snipers, melees, etc

    • @Musically_Declined
      @Musically_Declined 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ariel Nunez because fighting games are more competitive, when I’m playing a fighting game I’m playing to the best of my ability and if I’m not it’s because I’m trying something new to make myself even better. But with CoD I just wanna shoot people and have fun. Yeah sometimes I sweat but for the most part I’m just having fun, skill based matchmaking ruins that casual fun

    The violence thing, I kinda expected it, since what Call Of Duty campaigns have been doing for years is to try and shock people. The ending of Ghosts in particular felt really cheap to me, because it invalidates whatever you've fought for so far in the campaign... Honestly I think the writing depends too much on clichés.
    Also, the bomb vest thing was much more effective in The Hurt Locker which actually built tension about whether or not the main character's stubbornness would get him killed.

    • @peanutgallery4
      @peanutgallery4 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I mean the ending of Ghosts didn't invalidate anything except for maybe killing Rorke. The country is still saved and the Federation pretty much defeated, and it's not like your character was even that important to the plot so you being dragged away is fairly irrelevant.

    • @peanutgallery4
      @peanutgallery4 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In order to associate more overall relevance of the characters to the story I'd like for Ghosts 2 to be a much more personal, down to Earth story of playing the younger brother as he fights against the splinter factions of the Federation still led by Rorke and his brother, or to be even more interesting, playing as the brainwashed brother you played in the first game as you try and keep the Federation alive through the resurgence of the US military, encountering your brother on the other side. The possibilities for a sequel to tell a great story that Ghosts' twist sets up are so numerous it baffles me.

    • @peanutgallery4

    I once read a devlog where they talked about advanced enemy AI in shooters. One that would flank and apply some tactics in order to provide actual challenge.
    The result of playtesting this mechanic was surprisingly poor and not well accepted by players. The experience would be shit because players would just hang back in a corridor of the map, and stay as put as possible and make the shootout section as boring and linear as possible in order to win.
    They never gave the AI opportunity to be smart because they applied cheesy tactics in order to win.
    The Extra Credits channel has a video on it, named "how designers protect players from themselves" or something like that.
    Given the opportunity, players will cheese their way out of any confrontation. Even when designers make the game in order to be best played when taking risks, like XCOM 2 turn countdown mechanics.

    Very coherent, thorough, entertaining, and fair review, Renn.
    I enjoyed what you had to say about the campaign. It's designed to be fun above all else and you understood this. It was the developer's intention to make the most fun and technically impressive shooting gallery to date, and they did a damn good job. Did they do it at the expense of some groups of people? Yes. Is it apparent that Infinity Ward isn't making a political statement about those people? Also yes.
    I look at the multiplayer differently than you do. It's my own belief that you should be able to play a COD map for 10 minutes or less and understand where you need to go and and where enemies will be found. I think this design philosophy fits the game's target audience better than what we were given, but I understand that some people like you enjoy learning more complex maps. Nonetheless, I still enjoy playing the multiplayer. A lot of the map designs frustrate me though.

      This HAS TO BE bait. Can you please please please explain why a FPS needs to do a complete rundown to the audience about politics? You understand what your spitting is politics? If the game were to even cover crap like that in depth, they would have to choose a side unless you care about 15 to 20 minute cutscenes of Dems and Reps going back and forth. Is this what you want, because you are talking about something political in nature (atleast to US audiences). I'm guessing you would want it to be fair correct? Yeah that's not fitting in a video game like this baby boy.
      Ignorance is thinking a FPS needs to cover the entirety of political events .... THAT. THE. CORE. AUDIENCE. DOESNT. CARE. FOR. So much for calling that other guy a ignorant fuck. You must not play video games.
      Agian if you wanted it to be "fair" we would get both complete sides in the game. No matter what, thats literal days of reading time in any of those "USA COVER UP AGIAN BAD BAD MAN" situations. You dont "just" read the important parts. What makes the big moment important is all the little moments leading up, in between , and at the end.
      I think your in the wrong place honestly, this game pushes no boundaries. It brings to the table what was brought before with better graphics and updated engine. If anything, this game was to bring back old school playstyles and stories. Your shitting the bed over a game that didnt push anything hardcore, even in the political sense. Guess we all know who the new guy to the political scene is oh my God 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Okay I have had a legitimate bias against the Call of Duty's campaigns and online for a very long time, and I've always known exactly what it was that I used to like about the campaigns and what I didn't like about the newer ones. However, I've never been able to explain my distaste for the online until I heard you explain exactly what I wasn't smart enough or observational enough to realize. I've never identified with someone's online Call of Duty experience until this video so thank you for your very comprehensive review, and got damn I love your videos, keep it up :)

    I like to use this the comparison of the White Phosphorus scenes from both Spec Ops: The Line and Homefront.
    Specs Ops did it very well, you feel the weight of your own actions and much like Walker can no longer distance himself from the monster he’s becoming, you can no longer distance yourself from Walker because it was YOU who killed the civilians just as much as him.
    Homefront tried to do this and failed, some fucking boomer uses white phosphorus on the North Koreans and when you have to walk through the area that was hit by it, he just says “Oh they were gonna use it on us lol.” And all of the tension and weight of your actions have no meaning and no emotion, all tension lost.

    • @RennsReviews

    • @Gajiggles
      @Gajiggles 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RennsReviews that’s its problem, how can it hope to even have any tension in the story or any of its actions when it’s as forgettable as a fart in the wind? The only reason I ever remember it is when I think of the superior scene from Spec Ops: The Line and go “oh yeah, didn’t another game try to do that?” I feel like Modern Warfare and scenes from it like the phosphorus scene will only be remembered for their shock value, if at all, and not for any message that it hoped to impart on the viewer, as its only message that it may leave is a thinly veiled allusion to “the horrors of war.”, yet it can claim no deeper intelligence other than the fact that it does disturb the player, but never makes them ask introspective questions or provide critical analysis. It *may* make you go “oh woah that’s not cool.” But if it wanted to have any lasting value it needed to have the same intricacies as Spec Ops, which gave you a lot to chew on and think about even after you finish playing it, and for more than just the phosphorus scene.

    This game was shocking? Do people even watch movies or television? I've been watching people get holes blown through them since I was 7. Also isn't it a bit hypocritical to show no emotion during similar actions when it's "gameplay" but when it's presented as part of the narrative suddenly it has impact?

    • @DisDatK9
      @DisDatK9 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ToplessZombie I completely agree. Hell “No Russian” was shocking in a way, but I did not feel that at all with this game. I absolutely loved the campaign but I didn’t feel that the narrative was going for the shock value. I thought it actually contained more of an impact on immersion due to the realism, not in spite of it.

    I only played the beta but even then i didn't like the maps, imo they are way to open and i quickly learned that staying near the borders is the best way to play the game, at the end i didn't even go to the middle anymore and would always only run around the sides of the map trying to find where the enemy spawns.
    Honestly i would buy the game if they had fixed base spawns in a separate tdm and made maps that work with that type of gameplay, kind of like insurgency does it

    That scene with a bomb shows me something different. You are playing a "new guy" and Price is so much above you. And you needed to make a quick decision, but you weren't able (or willing) to sacrifice life of someone else, he was. He's done what needed to be done to save himself, you and the other hostages. It shows you how hard it is to be an Operator, what will be required from you - you need to act fast, not to think. So it's a great way how to show Price to newcomers.
    On the other hand imho that mission when they are young is absolutely irrelevant. It's stupid from the beginning to the end. From "your" father letting you run after him instead of carrying you (and yes, you are much slower that way plus you have a higher chance to breath that gas), especially when you run last dozen meters. Whole scene with you killing that soldier at home is just Home alone. A professional soldier let you kill him, a small child. How the hell would he let you (even hurt) sneak up on him and stab him? Twice! And the "best" part was when I tried to shoot all rounds from the revolver and found out that your character could reload that revolver pretty fast - unlike with the other flashback, where you are decade older but you have a problem with reloading anything... Her whole character is just a one big nonsense - a woman leading muslim resistance (Al-Qatala)... Quite funny tbh.
    And that R6 Patriotrs - they were team Rainbow, not SEALs! Otherwise pretty good video.
