I once read a devlog where they talked about advanced enemy AI in shooters. One that would flank and apply some tactics in order to provide actual challenge. The result of playtesting this mechanic was surprisingly poor and not well accepted by players. The experience would be shit because players would just hang back in a corridor of the map, and stay as put as possible and make the shootout section as boring and linear as possible in order to win. They never gave the AI opportunity to be smart because they applied cheesy tactics in order to win. The Extra Credits channel has a video on it, named "how designers protect players from themselves" or something like that. Given the opportunity, players will cheese their way out of any confrontation. Even when designers make the game in order to be best played when taking risks, like XCOM 2 turn countdown mechanics. Really worth a watch.
Very coherent, thorough, entertaining, and fair review, Renn. I enjoyed what you had to say about the campaign. It's designed to be fun above all else and you understood this. It was the developer's intention to make the most fun and technically impressive shooting gallery to date, and they did a damn good job. Did they do it at the expense of some groups of people? Yes. Is it apparent that Infinity Ward isn't making a political statement about those people? Also yes. I look at the multiplayer differently than you do. It's my own belief that you should be able to play a COD map for 10 minutes or less and understand where you need to go and and where enemies will be found. I think this design philosophy fits the game's target audience better than what we were given, but I understand that some people like you enjoy learning more complex maps. Nonetheless, I still enjoy playing the multiplayer. A lot of the map designs frustrate me though.
This HAS TO BE bait. Can you please please please explain why a FPS needs to do a complete rundown to the audience about politics? You understand what your spitting is politics? If the game were to even cover crap like that in depth, they would have to choose a side unless you care about 15 to 20 minute cutscenes of Dems and Reps going back and forth. Is this what you want, because you are talking about something political in nature (atleast to US audiences). I'm guessing you would want it to be fair correct? Yeah that's not fitting in a video game like this baby boy. Ignorance is thinking a FPS needs to cover the entirety of political events .... THAT. THE. CORE. AUDIENCE. DOESNT. CARE. FOR. So much for calling that other guy a ignorant fuck. You must not play video games. Agian if you wanted it to be "fair" we would get both complete sides in the game. No matter what, thats literal days of reading time in any of those "USA COVER UP AGIAN BAD BAD MAN" situations. You dont "just" read the important parts. What makes the big moment important is all the little moments leading up, in between , and at the end. I think your in the wrong place honestly, this game pushes no boundaries. It brings to the table what was brought before with better graphics and updated engine. If anything, this game was to bring back old school playstyles and stories. Your shitting the bed over a game that didnt push anything hardcore, even in the political sense. Guess we all know who the new guy to the political scene is oh my God 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I also didn't feel anything. Even back when mw2 came out. I just know this is a videogame and more importantly this is cod. They release this goddamn game every year.
honestly i feel like this game just needs time to settle down and then players will realize that instinctively running out into exposed positions will get you killed and that camping and not moving at all will ultimately lessen your game play experience.
@@Darkneonflame13 i'm not saying that you cant run and gun at all, i'm saying that with parts of maps you have to decide to move slowly and methodically or faster and instinctively.

These games would be far more interesting if the characthers presented was just a little bit more human. It gets so fake when everybody has to be "tough" and "badass" all the time, no matter the situation.

I like to use this the comparison of the White Phosphorus scenes from both Spec Ops: The Line and Homefront. Specs Ops did it very well, you feel the weight of your own actions and much like Walker can no longer distance himself from the monster he’s becoming, you can no longer distance yourself from Walker because it was YOU who killed the civilians just as much as him. Homefront tried to do this and failed, some fucking boomer uses white phosphorus on the North Koreans and when you have to walk through the area that was hit by it, he just says “Oh they were gonna use it on us lol.” And all of the tension and weight of your actions have no meaning and no emotion, all tension lost.
RennsReviews that’s its problem, how can it hope to even have any tension in the story or any of its actions when it’s as forgettable as a fart in the wind? The only reason I ever remember it is when I think of the superior scene from Spec Ops: The Line and go “oh yeah, didn’t another game try to do that?” I feel like Modern Warfare and scenes from it like the phosphorus scene will only be remembered for their shock value, if at all, and not for any message that it hoped to impart on the viewer, as its only message that it may leave is a thinly veiled allusion to “the horrors of war.”, yet it can claim no deeper intelligence other than the fact that it does disturb the player, but never makes them ask introspective questions or provide critical analysis. It *may* make you go “oh woah that’s not cool.” But if it wanted to have any lasting value it needed to have the same intricacies as Spec Ops, which gave you a lot to chew on and think about even after you finish playing it, and for more than just the phosphorus scene.
I saw that movie... no recollection of anything but the slow mo explosion at the intro... If that's what it's from then they DEFINITELY took it from that movie, the patriots demo probably did too
This game was shocking? Do people even watch movies or television? I've been watching people get holes blown through them since I was 7. Also isn't it a bit hypocritical to show no emotion during similar actions when it's "gameplay" but when it's presented as part of the narrative suddenly it has impact?
ToplessZombie I completely agree. Hell “No Russian” was shocking in a way, but I did not feel that at all with this game. I absolutely loved the campaign but I didn’t feel that the narrative was going for the shock value. I thought it actually contained more of an impact on immersion due to the realism, not in spite of it.
It's clear to me you've put a lot of time and sheer effort into editing and making your arguments count through this. As is with all videos I've seen in here. Feels good to be in the receiving end of all this.
I played the campaign like five times because I didn’t really feel like dealing with online gameplay but the game is pretty nice, it looks nice, and looks like it was made very well in my opinion
I only played the beta but even then i didn't like the maps, imo they are way to open and i quickly learned that staying near the borders is the best way to play the game, at the end i didn't even go to the middle anymore and would always only run around the sides of the map trying to find where the enemy spawns. Honestly i would buy the game if they had fixed base spawns in a separate tdm and made maps that work with that type of gameplay, kind of like insurgency does it
These poor guys can never seem to win, if they do the same thing every year the critics slam them and if they try something that’s different and more substantial their audience slams them
I mean that’s kinda how it always is. The cod community are always split apart on what actually want like what maps, guns, perks, whatever they want everyone has different opinions so no matter what they do they will lose
Bought on release, ''worked'' for a few months, hasn't since. Sunk more than 24 hours this week trying to make it work, nothing does. Verdict: Unplayably disappointing.
That scene with a bomb shows me something different. You are playing a "new guy" and Price is so much above you. And you needed to make a quick decision, but you weren't able (or willing) to sacrifice life of someone else, he was. He's done what needed to be done to save himself, you and the other hostages. It shows you how hard it is to be an Operator, what will be required from you - you need to act fast, not to think. So it's a great way how to show Price to newcomers. On the other hand imho that mission when they are young is absolutely irrelevant. It's stupid from the beginning to the end. From "your" father letting you run after him instead of carrying you (and yes, you are much slower that way plus you have a higher chance to breath that gas), especially when you run last dozen meters. Whole scene with you killing that soldier at home is just Home alone. A professional soldier let you kill him, a small child. How the hell would he let you (even hurt) sneak up on him and stab him? Twice! And the "best" part was when I tried to shoot all rounds from the revolver and found out that your character could reload that revolver pretty fast - unlike with the other flashback, where you are decade older but you have a problem with reloading anything... Her whole character is just a one big nonsense - a woman leading muslim resistance (Al-Qatala)... Quite funny tbh. And that R6 Patriotrs - they were team Rainbow, not SEALs! Otherwise pretty good video.

I just feel like if this game didn't have the CoD name (Ignoring SP) People wouldn't be as upset with it and just play w/e meta. Learning it in the process. Control area, look for campers while going thru particular and popular areas to another, engaging with people doing the same. We also use the same Domino skin. I like it because the color scheme reminds me of The Hidden Leaf's garb from Naruto.
I think replaying this campaign will be a slog due to all the scripted “shocking” moments that you have no control over
Amazing how I aways feel exactly like Renn. Liking this game a lot, left destiny for good and wondering if that contribued liking this game as much as I do considering the response of the community
The quality of the cod games during release should convince Activision to quit the annual release
Call of Duty: Another One
~Get ready for another one!
~The most another one yet!
~10/10 it exists!
~You've played them all, now get ready to play them again!
~Save time because you've essentially already played it!
~Buy it stupid!
Tbh this is the first one i bought in a long time and love it
Call of Duty always had good single player so theres nothing new. All i can see is your butthurt haha
@@Dar1usz Good Singleplayer Lmao. It's nothing but scripted Setpieces and shooting with boring weapons on the always samy dumb ai enemies
@@pommezfritesde8021 yeah, clearly u have not played previous call of duties and probably not mw 2019 as well, and your opinion is based on internet reviews :)
@@Dar1usz i played all Call Of Dutys except BO4 and Infinite Warfare, Modern Warfare. And the most fun i a Campaign was WAW. And from what I've seen Modern Warfare seems like a big step forward
What’s funny about the Russian prison mission with pharah is that if you do absolutely nothing, during the water boarding, the orders of the main guy (i forget his name) and tell him the truth, the mission plays exactly the same. I kinda wish there was an acheivement for that
2020 is almost over and I still have never once gotten the personal radar to function. Ive called in about 200, not one has ever shown up or marked anyone. All of the challenges including personal radars are non functional for me. I saw a lot of PC people complaining at launch about this bug but it to this day has not been fixed for me.
Seeing this now MW2019 was the best thing ever
I wish cod was still like this. I get nostalgia from it despite only playing it last year.
Also for the antirussian theory, it literally says that what barkov did wasnt approved by his superiors.
"Hiding in a closet like The Act Man"
I love you.
I will agree on your statement towards the end - quitting Destiny does leave one much happier. I speak from experience as I did this myself a few months ago. Don’t miss it at all.
Why didn't you talk about the Highway of Death controversy?
whats the controversy?
Why would he? Hes reviewing the game, not the politics involved
@@saier1414 He's trying to figure out the low metacritic score and why people generally dislike the game compared to orhers in the series; blatant American propoganda and a disinformation campaign on one of America's worst war crimes seems pretty significant

I think cod modern warfare 2019 is the best cod in years
They should have compromised on how different the maps were but gunfight plus warzone plus how bad Cold War is, definitely 8.5 imo
So games don't have good AI because it's wasted on the players?! Hilarious!
Sounds like a huge cop out. FEAR did it and it well received to this day
My sweet baby boy
Your content is always so well made. You really do deserve more subs and I hope that all comes soon.
Great review man. Keep it up.
You’ve absolutely nailed this review. I’m so glad you’re not one those complainers that hated the game because you were struggling at first.
Didn’t talk about the denial of US war crimes. Pretty lame
snake867511 who gives a fuck, people hate russia over and fucking over again, but now they feel bad? LOL you people are fucked
On top of that he noted it, the anti Russian propaganda. He said he’s not gonna touch that
5000Seabass a game shouldn't be covering up America's war crimes because people like you don't care enough to learn the actual history
5000Seabass A game shouldn’t be covering up horrific crimes done by the US. Read some history, you ignorant fuck
I hate being second comment.
I love this game! Yes there are problems but overall I love it, it’s A tier for me
Man i’ve watched a couple of your vids and I can already say you’re the first reviewer that thinks almost exactly how I think about games
I’m desensitized as well. I was unfazed by the bomb scene.
I was more fazed at the portrayal of the Russian army than anything else in the campaign
I also didn't feel anything. Even back when mw2 came out. I just know this is a videogame and more importantly this is cod. They release this goddamn game every year.
I was so immersed on this video whilst on train I was seconds away from missing my stop
wow 3 years ago 🤯
The spec ops mode is like satan in bro force, it just never ends, and is a pain to kill each level
MrSpartan 172 getting those operators was hell... whoever designed those missions needs to consider a new career lmao
had to rewatch after the mention in the hyperdemon vid love u renn
honestly i feel like this game just needs time to settle down and then players will realize that instinctively running out into exposed positions will get you killed and that camping and not moving at all will ultimately lessen your game play experience.
Sebastian Horn I don’t see that ever happening a large majority of the player base do play run and gun and the maps are built to support camping
@@Darkneonflame13 i'm not saying that you cant run and gun at all, i'm saying that with parts of maps you have to decide to move slowly and methodically or faster and instinctively.
Okay I have had a legitimate bias against the Call of Duty's campaigns and online for a very long time, and I've always known exactly what it was that I used to like about the campaigns and what I didn't like about the newer ones. However, I've never been able to explain my distaste for the online until I heard you explain exactly what I wasn't smart enough or observational enough to realize. I've never identified with someone's online Call of Duty experience until this video so thank you for your very comprehensive review, and got damn I love your videos, keep it up :)
Can we just appreciate the "soviet anthem techno remix - Nightcore TM" lmaoo
I totally agree. The achievements were awesome. The cinder block achievement was my personal favorite

"Babe! It's 4pm, update time!"
"Yes honey"
These games would be far more interesting if the characthers presented was just a little bit more human. It gets so fake when everybody has to be "tough" and "badass" all the time, no matter the situation.
The characters in cod games are great. Not all of them are just tough and badass. You’ve got characters like victor rezov being a insane commie, captain price is a badass that does have a sense of humor.
Nah it still sucks that they cant maje the campaign offline no wifi and they force huge 90+ gb updates and i unfortunatly deketed the game and cant play it because my wifi suck and the update is massive and it says ready un 300+ hours
PSYCHOTIC youtuber laughs at FICTIONAL characters GETTING BLOWN UP
You're criminally underrated. I've never watched a reviewer I agree 100% with until I found your channel.
26:10 the Spotter perk is your best friend. You’ll be able to spot campers from across the map and hacking an enemy’s claymore so you can lure them out and get them killed by their own shit never gets old.
I like this video, i do not have the game and will probably not get it but i really like this video and will give it a 10/10 because you were first of honest and second you really new what you were talking about and you did your resurge and i have respect for that, continue the great work and you will get 50k subscribers i know it
I like to use this the comparison of the White Phosphorus scenes from both Spec Ops: The Line and Homefront.
Specs Ops did it very well, you feel the weight of your own actions and much like Walker can no longer distance himself from the monster he’s becoming, you can no longer distance yourself from Walker because it was YOU who killed the civilians just as much as him.
Homefront tried to do this and failed, some fucking boomer uses white phosphorus on the North Koreans and when you have to walk through the area that was hit by it, he just says “Oh they were gonna use it on us lol.” And all of the tension and weight of your actions have no meaning and no emotion, all tension lost.
i forget that homefront existed pretty much every day
RennsReviews that’s its problem, how can it hope to even have any tension in the story or any of its actions when it’s as forgettable as a fart in the wind?
Hurt Locker did the "innocent man with bomb rig" scene 100x better
I saw that movie... no recollection of anything but the slow mo explosion at the intro... If that's what it's from then they DEFINITELY took it from that movie, the patriots demo probably did too
th-cam.com/video/1KnFkdk1l9s/w-d-xo.html
that movie's a great drama but it's 100% bullshit lmao
I heard that battlefield music in the background, can't fool me.
One of the best cods since black ops 2, maybe that’s just my opinion but I still haven’t even touched Cold War😂 loving the new MW guns
I love your Content man!
Great video!
I’m a new subscriber but I genuinely enjoy all your videos. I’ve gone back to almost all your destiny videos! (Even though I never played it lol)
Renn you forget that COD2 had multi-objective missions where you could choose the order
This is a good video but seriously u can't complain about being confused about the plot when u skip the cut scenes
I like how he used the bfv theme song for a cod game review
It's clear to me you've put a lot of time and sheer effort into editing and making your arguments count through this. As is with all videos I've seen in here. Feels good to be in the receiving end of all this.
I played the campaign like five times because I didn’t really feel like dealing with online gameplay but the game is pretty nice, it looks nice, and looks like it was made very well in my opinion
I never noticed the drink in the dog bed at 6:36! NOOOOO poor puppy!
Price did the right thing, there was no time left. People don't understand hard choices.
God dude you’re so fucking funny how do you do it
Dude, spec ops the line was amazing. Even with bland gameplay. Them nostalgias…
Bought on release, ''worked'' for a few months, hasn't since. Sunk more than 24 hours this week trying to make it work, nothing does.
Verdict: Unplayably disappointing.
9:15 laughed at that smoke grenade bit
Otherwise pretty good video.
this channel is very underrated!
so all the times iv laughed at death and wasnt shocked i think its becouse i fuckin played this at six i grew up like dis
It’s so weird how I cant remember half of the shit that happened in this campaign I have played it 2 times and still forget full missions
The hostage scene from modern warfare is taken from hurt locker
15:31 I’m sorry but I haven’t laughed so hard in ages 😂😂
You and me my friend, had the same experience on the first hours of the game. And the same motivation. Ive played bo4, but I really was not as interested or motivated as MW2019.
11:40 thats the exact scene i was thinking of lol when price threw threw the dude over the edge good ol patriots
I don’t even have the full game but warzone and the little weekly things are supper fun
Nah man, you need to play the campaign on realism
They probably stole the forced S-vest scene from The Hurt Locker. It is a bit less obscure. Also the padlocks look identical.
Great video man! You need more views!
