I'm local. Hawaii is expensive. 80% of all domestic goods are imported into Hawaii which is one of the most isolated land masses in the world. Additionally, the cost of housing in Hawaii is about three times what it is generally in the United States. The current median price of a single family home on Oahu is $920,000. Affordable housing guidelines set by a Hawaii state agency could rate two-bedroom homes costing $1 million as affordable for some households eligible for government-subsidized housing. If you come here without reviewing the pros and cons, make sure you have an exit plan and the funds to execute it because it's so easy to be priced out of paradise and literally become the working homeless.
I was born and raised on Oahu 48 years now living in Las Vegas. Everything you guys talked about is so true. Especially respecting the culture. I love Hawaii but it just got too expensive. Love your videos!!
Pretty much groceries are 2x more expensive in Hawai’i. Most stuff is flown in from the mainland, fruits and vegetables are cheaper buying local but other than that it’s pretty expensive.
Having spent a lot of time in Hawaii it’s interesting to hear your perspective. I remember when north shore was a lot more country. It’s so much easier to get things there now. More restaurants, stores and grocery stores have been built. I love Hawaii so much and it’s so great you guys were able to make it happen. Costco is helpful for saving money, just takes a little bit more planning ahead.
I’m an American ex-pat and now live in Israel, and wildly though I live inland so much of this is similar!!! (I.e. less materialism, expensive food, no Amazon Prime, and literally sand/dust everywhere!) enjoy your new life!
We just moved after nearly 4 years living a few miles south of you. So many of your points are so true! Back on the mainland now, life is so different (and cheap)
very true about how everything is so expensive in Hawaii it's shocking! 😄But yes about the body positivity! It was in Hawaii where I realized that there is no reason to be too self-conscious. Love you guys!
i visited honolulu, Hawaii in 2019 for 5 days which was no .1 on my bucket list .People are down to earth ,kind ,loving and i took uber for sight seeing for places that was far away and the drivers are so friendly when compared to the newyork ones .Its so relaxing and refreshing and u dont miss anything as every store is there (love ABC stores). If u are a foodie have Leonards donuts (yummy),shaved ice,Udon noodles etc. I want to visit Maui and to go to Hilo for the Merrie Monarch festival in future .Take care Be safe Aloha.
We live in Alaska and we love Hawaii! We visit Hawaii about once a year, but lot of what you are mentioning is so similar to Alaska! Expensive! Far away Time zones People don’t care how they dress Shipping 😅 Active outdoor lifestyle We love you guys!
As an Australian who lived in Hawaii for a few years I just wanted to say to anyone thinking about moving to Hawaii. GO VISIT FIRST!! and stay a while, do you like crowded beaches, or ones that are not full of tourist can often have many homeless and or is actually dangerous (we nearly got robbed near public bathrooms at a beach). Hawaii in my opinion is a beautiful place to visit by it is way too crowded to live. Limited jobs, roosters waking you up AT ALL HOURS. Maui is so worth visiting, unless you are wealthy think twice before moving there. It is kind of a bit over rated due to the amount of people living there, the prices of things etc etc
The "shipping" point makes me laugh because living in rural Canada I'm just used to waiting weeks for packages and often having to find something else because things won't ship to Canada.... so yeah I can relate. 😁
I'm so curious about what it's like where you grew up/ moved from. I'm from New Jersey and some of the things you guys talk about are so foreign to me. You're both so sweet! Very happy for you and glad you're doing well in Hawaii. Looking forward to more videos!
I know im a couple of years late, don't know if you guys are still living here but im a teenager and honestly dream of living in Hawaii or Florida. You guys are the cutest couple! I hope your still doing great
Having spent time on each island, I suggest Maui, Kauai, the big island, then Oahu in that order. If you're looking for the most affordable (housing mostly) the big island is your place (just remember it may vanish overnight in an eruption). For the younger (hip) crowd, I would say Maui. For anyone wanting a very casual lifestyle, do Kauai. And if you're a traveler at all, do Oahu.
I live on the coast of GA right on the FL line. When I visited Hawaii years ago, I felt like I was in FL as far as the weather and vegetation. So enjoy Hawaii but when you're ready to settle down, move to FL! It's way cheaper and very similar to Hawaii.
As a military family that lives here these are so true. I will agree living inland is a little better housing wise for utilities and stuff. Still expensive though. Glad you mentioned the local people being nice. I was told they were rude so I was prepared and omg they are so sweet! I have met wonder people here. They love their culture and they want you to love it too! I've learned a little bit but wished I would have learned more. We move soon but Hawaii will always have a special place in my heart just because of the people!
Aw my husband and I just moved onto the island 3 weeks ago and love it so far!! I saw you guys on tik tok and then you popped up on Della vlogs! So cool y’all live here too! (:
Im glad you’re having a great experience! I lived in Hawaii from birth-12, and I felt very outcast, and asked all the time where I’m from. Lots of bullying in elementary. But I never surfed so glad you’re taking advantage of that! It’s definitely hard! And expensive! But I definitely find it very hot!! I cannot exercise well when it’s humid; when I moved to Colorado I got into all the winter sports and that’s my true love haha. But they’re both paradise in their own way 😊
The prices are the same in places like New York City, DC, Orlando, and San Diego. (Places I’ve lived) I lived in Hawaii for a little as well, I found Hawaii cheaper than San Diego. The trick for food, go to local markets, shop local, support local, save a lot.
I should send this to my bestie. She wants to move there soo bad! She went there one time and it was life changing for her. She’s been there 3 times now in 2 years.
Your guys' video quality is so good! I just made the courageous decision to move out to Nashville, TN and you guys served as an inspiration for me! Love the video!
@@southernjunkie94 I like it a lot! My only complaint as of right now is that traffic can get pretty bad and it is very difficult to find a cheap place to rent
Saltwater wind blowing it everywhere it's fantastic I'm an Island boy simplicity I love it, my heart pumping on the ocean the only place in this country I feel alive.
Things balance out. High cost of living prevents people from moving there in droves, people seeking a paradise or trying to exploit the fragile environment or taking advantage of the giving, friendly, family oriented people. It balances out!
I love you guys I think I found you on TikTok when you had like 22 followers then I found out you guys had a TH-cam channel I was so exited! I love you guys so so so much!!! #dude
We’ve taken some good long vacations to Maui and Kauai and we always always always get our groceries at Costco, Target, Big Save Market, and Longs as well as a couple smaller places like Salt Pond Grocery. Longs in Kauai was wild. I never expected to find a musubi maker at a pharmacy but everyone said that’s where to buy it and they were right! Everything was priced very low like 5.99 for a musubi maker and $2 for rice paddle. I was surprised you can’t even get Maui gold pineapples in Kauai. We almost did a day trip to Maui just for the pineapples and Ululani downtown Lahaina. We WILL live there hopefully within the next 10 years. It’s just our vibe and we miss it as soon as we get to the airport.
I'm planning on moving to Honolulu soon. In a few months... I live in West Hollywood... So I'm used to things priced high... So it won't seem much of a challenge... Food costs maybe will be different... But in LA going to a club... Getting in... Having drinks... You will spend easily 100.00 bucks or more... So I don't do that very often... I cook a lot more at home than ever in my life... And I'm a vegetarian... So going out to dinner is a real challenge for me... I'm not Vegan... ButcI see in Hawaii theres Vegan Restaurants... I'm looking forward too. . I enjoyed watching your video.
I just heard you say you're from Springfield MO. I am too. Graduated from Kickapoo and went to SBU. I have also lived in Hawaii. I've been watching your videos for a while now but first time I've commented. Go Cardinals!!!
I feel like maybe you should have move to Florida. You have the beautiful beaches, closer to family and it’s more affordable. I feel like moving to Hawaii is challenging, you either have to be super rich or already living a super simplistic life.
I'm from Canada and I've always wanted to move to Hawaii, just too expensive for me. Sadly there aren't many worm places in Canada. I dislike the cold a lot
