I just had 2 Gerber comfort height toilets installed in my home . The Gerber was the recommendation by my plumber. It definitely is comfortable for height .. but with the Government requirement of using 1.6 gallons of water it will never flush as good as the original 1951 toilets that originally were in the house when it was built.
American Standard Champion 4 - my vote for the best. Priced right, well made, reliable, with a powerful flush. I'm 6'1 and 280 lbs. and this toilet has handled all situations I've thrown at it & NEVER clogged. Unless you're looking for bragging rights because you have a designer crapper you don't need to look any further. Just my opinion.
That's a quick fix though - for 5 bucks you can get a new (silicone) gasket from the manufacturer. No different than replacing the flapper on other toilets.
@@r.r.6205 I agree my gripe is I only had the toilet a year before it went out on me and I ended up fixing it but it’s started back to ghost flushing and I’m hoping I don’t have to replace the entire valve assembly.
@@BeardedBourbonDrinker - well that sucks. When you replaced the gasket did you also replace the small (red) O-ring that sits just under the plastic nut? Not sure if that would cause ghost flushing or not. Have you seen this video before? th-cam.com/video/WZF9EfnIdGg/w-d-xo.html jump to the 2:15 part of the video. Good luck.
@@r.r.6205 unfortunately I did not because I bought one that wasn’t a American standard replacement gasket, but I did order a two pack with the O-ring. Thanks for the luck and posting the video.
Swiss Madison is the most difficult toilet installation out of your list. Except to pay additional for installation and water supply reconstruction most certainly.
Re: discussion of Toto Drake. There are multiple Drake models. Installed 3 model CST744, larger water surface area and very strong flush, but appears it’s no longer made. Remodeling my other home and had to buy CST776 Drake assuming it had at least as good performance, not even close to the CST744. Both models are 1.6gpm. I won’t buy Toto again either.
Not working very good after some use, flush becomes partial and not sufficient to clear bowl. Must consciously hold flush lever down to obtain full flush. Problem. Shortage of water, need to increase water level in tank by raising height of overflow piping.
I succumbed to the intense hype Toto gets and bought the Drake dual flush model with the plan to buy two more soon afterwards. After having the Drake for a week, I will not be buying any more. Key complaint: the water spot is so small and low, that most of the bowl interior is dry. Solid waste clings to the dry areas and the flush doesn't clean it off. Time to get out the brush.
I don’t like the low water level in the bowl either. And it's hard to shop using that as a criteria because how do you know until you get it installed.
Used the Drake in a 2009 remodel and had the same issues you've outlined. Remodeled our new place last year and installed the Drake II in each the guest suite and the half bath and the Ultra Max in each the master bathroom and hall bath. The Drake II has an improved bowl shape and powerful flush. The Ultra Max has exceptional performance. I'm in California, so low water use of 1.28 gallons is essential due to water rationing.
You are right . Toto toilets are more hype than actual work . In spite of sani gloss coating the waste sticks to the bowl surface . Their Map score is average . American Standard has widest range to offer almost 500 plus models of various brands they own and with 90% percent or more have a a MAP score 1000 grams per flush . I converted my customers from TOTO to American Stanadard
Easy to install, th-cam.com/users/postUgkxjA-hDN2m8_mi0Dg0JD8U6QiArozIAc4I and comfortable. No idea what other people were talking about when they said it was difficult to install or uncomfortable.
One with a wide enough base,so it doesn't move , tall enough ,you don't want to deep knee squat, big wide seats and length for those who are bigger down there
Can someone recommend a good toilet that flushes very well that is on the shorter side than normal from the wall? Our bathroom is tiny, and builders forced too many things into it. Our door barely clears the toilet we have now, and that was with a plumber spending over an hour installing to find the sweet spot to not leak and clear the door. I don’t know the model, but it’s an American Standard from Lowe’s purchased 15 years ago. It was the cheapest one they had.
Sounds like you need a toilet to make up for the incompetence of the builder you hired. I'm sure there's a market for that but I doubt there is the magic toilet required.
If you buy a smaller toilet, I believe it's called the round toilet, it is too small and will leave shit stains everywhere. That is why you want the elongated.
Avsolutely cannot STAND all these toilets with a side profile in the shape of the sewer pipe!! Like, WHY? We love the Kohler Corbelle comfort height toilet with elongated soft-close seat. It has a smooth, easy to clean sidewall.
Any toilet with flat sides is going to be a bitch to replace if it breaks. They’re normally super heavy, and extremely hard to remove without certain tools. Kohler toilets are very susceptible to breaking.

I have a Crane Galaxy from 2005. Ballcock & flapper style. 2.5 gallons per flush and never clogs. The older ones are better. You NEED water! Not that eco junk
Actually, when installing a 2 piece toilet , you'll notice there is a neoprene (?) sponge gasket between the tank and the bowl . American Standard Cadet III 3" .7 gallon flush I prefer standard height and round front for my tiny bathroom. Not cheap but will flush a 1/4 bushel of golfballs (!!!) EVERYTIME! Uses plain-ol' Fluidmaster ballcock and an American Standard flapper you should be able to get 100 years from now, as I have purchased guts for a buddy's wooden tank (head high type) 130 year-old American Standard "Crapper" from a plumbing supply (under $35!) and re-built it in under an hour. Try that with a "contractor's special" $29.95 that takes 3 flushes to clear pee from the bowl!
