I get so much more out of watching a single SPI video than any of the big-name TV design shows. Appreciate that one of your tips was tucking the toilet out of view. Can't believe how many costly bathroom designs I've seen where it's on full display. ( And don't get me started on the number of influencers I've seen who post pics of their bathroom with the toilet on full view with the lid up! )
I'm also so shocked by how many beautiful homes have occupants who think the toilet lid up is ok. Also from a feng shui point of view it means flushing your money away and don't get me started on hygiene.
Your my inspirational boss mum thank you for your reminding that being a mum and being successful in your profession is possible thank you Sophie, I'm obsessed with your tips ❤️😘👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Agree totally about the importance of top quality taps which are tactile - I also like to use lever taps where I can as they are much easier to operate, especially when hands become less supple (ahem …. ‘later in life!’). It’s also possible to turn them off with your elbow if your hands are full of squirming child!
Love your videos Sophie ❤especially your tips and tricks to achieving a luxury room. I am an interior design student and I am obsessed with your luxurious interiors you are truly my inspiration.
Sophie, thank you so much for sharing such valuable information! I just started studying a BA in Interior Design in London and have been educating myself prior to starting the school year by watching all your videos (from your 1st post). Your valuable tips have really made me feel so much more prepared and confident going into my studies. I feel so lucky to have run into your channel! I can’t wait to see your next videos and further my knowledge in the interior design industry :)
Lovely video. I would make three additions to your list of recommendations: 1) an excellent (strong and quiet) exhaust fan, or two, if there is a separate water closet. They are invaluable for ridding the bathroom of moisture and heat, and essential if one has a steam shower, as I do; 2) a small hand sink for a separate WC. I have never understood having a toilet, and possibly a bidet, in a separate room with no sink. I have two standard-sized sinks in the vanity of my principal ensuite, and a small Duravit hand sink in my WC, which is a separate room integrated into the ensuite and separated therefrom by a pocket door. My custom cabinet maker designed a vanity base for it that matches the cabinetry in the main part of the ensuite. The single faucet comes from the same company and same design series in the same finish as the plumbing fixtures in the rest of the bathroom, as do the cabinet knobs and towel rings. I installed a medicine cabinet above the hand sink, a wall light fixture above that, and a ceiling surface-mounted light fixture in the ceiling, identical to, but smaller than, the ceiling fixture over the bath tub in the main ensuite; and 3) the application of “Tuffskin” on marble vanity counters, shower niches, and tub surrounds. Tuffskin is a gas permeable, but liquid impermeable polyester stone laminate that is installed over smooth stone surfaces to protect them from staining, scratching, etching and burns. It comes in both a gloss and matte finish and is colourless. I have had Tuffskin applied to the marble, onyx, limestone and quartzite countertops in my various bathrooms. The gloss, or polished finish of Tuffskin actually enhances the stone, while the matte finish is completely invisible. It lasts about 10 years, and can can be removed, and fresh Tuffskin reapplied, as required. I live in Canada, where it is available, as it is in the U.S.. I assume it, or similar product, is available in the U.K.. I first heard about it from Arvin Olano, a TH-cam designer, and cannot recommend it highly enough.
I look forward to these videos the way you look forward to the next episode of your favourite show (old enough to remember pre-binge tv) 😂 They are such a treat and just transport you into design heaven! Thank you for these Sophie and team!
I love everything about this video! I took copious notes. I do have a question. If you hadn't used glass on the far shower wall in your own bathroom, what would you have done? Would using marble have closed down the space at all?
This was amazing. All of the bathrooms were beautiful and thoughtfully designed. Things I didn't think of were in this collection. Thank you for this wonderful video.
Loved every minute of this video 😍 - such great advice ☺️. A hidden bin in the bathroom 👌🏻😃. Good quality taps were very important to us too. Sophie, you and Ollie are a fantastic team and we are very thankful that you take the time to do these videos for us. Whenever I see your & your team's work I think it ticks all the boxes: classic, cozy, luxurious and timeless. You definitely convinced me that I need to monogramme our towels ✨️😂. Ps. I could listen to your calm voice for hours ☺️.
I can't disagree with storage, it's so essential in a bathroom. I wish I could add lighting layers but perhaps I'll look at battery options. Thanks for sharing all your top tips
do you have an amazon store? Could you mention and/or link your cabinets and lighting resources. I love the timeless elegance your designs have & it would be nice to purchase items seen in your videos in the US. Thanks!
Such lovely ideas, and such stunning bathrooms, just wish mine wasn't so small, there is no space to put storage, thank you Sophie love your wealth of design
Hello - I just received some of your art from Fromental. I'm in love! So glad I came across your channel. My design style is more Calif-casual (CA born and raised), but I love viewing your work and learning from you...
Thank you for sharing. Can you share if the mirror storage niche was pre manufactured or did you choose the mirror and then have the niche made to fit the mirror? Also, there are sooo many stone and paint options, pls talk more about. How you brought the stone selection and color scheme together?
Just found your video and am preparing to renovate my Master Bathroom. This gave me several great ideas! Can you please provide the link or manufacturer of the mirrored storage cabinet above the sinks at the beginning of the video?
THANK YOU so much, Ms. Sophie P.. I have been racking my brain on where to put the bin after we reconfigured the bathroom. But after a few minutes into this video, voila the solution has presented itself via the hidden bin. I am more than willing to sacrifice a slim drawer to house the bin. Just curious though, how would you hint to people that the bin is there?
Sophie, watching your videos are some of my most relaxing, feel-good times of the day! They're so calming. ♥️ You mention LED light strips in several of your videos and I would love to purchase some for my own home. Do you have a store or supplier that you recommend buying these from (I'm in the states)…? I'm always leery of LED lighting because it can often come off as too cold and sterile. I love the beautiful warm glow of the light strips that you use.
I have always been a huge fan of the hidden toilet, if possible. Having one right next to your bath, doesn’t scream luxury and it’s unhygienic next to the sink due to toilet spray. I dislike artwork and sculptures etc in the toilet area - again, due to it being unhygienic. A lot of designers do it and even my mil had sculptures in hers. It’s just gross. Keep it to a separated vanity area. I’m hoping the free standing bath trend eventually dies, it’s not that easy to clean behind and not very safe for some people such as the elderly.
I once asked a designer to help me with redesigning my old 80's bathroom and she was irritated that I chose that for my next project. She declined. I ended up choosing every detail in my bathroom myself. It was overwhelming because I had one shot to get it right and I didn't want to make a mistake choosing the materials. I see online that designer's help with bathroom makeovers and they are happy to help.
Hi Sophie, what are the wall finishes in the bathroom that has not tiles but a small marble vanity with wall lights? Is it just regular paint or another finish that is better in wet areas?
I was going to tile the whole Bathroom I remembered your advice… So I’m doing wall paper tile and paint…. then I can change the decor should I want to.
New subscriber.I am binge watching all your videos, literally! Love your videos ❤ Noticed you don’t talk much about flooring in your videos. Do you mind me asking, what are your thoughts on Amtico flooring, noticed its been a trend for sometime . Is it something you use at all in any of your projects? For a very contemporary modern flooring in the living/dining & kitchen areas , what kind of flooring would be your choice? I hope you don’t mind me asking. Thank you. Absolutely love your style! ❤️
hi, im interested in doing something similar to the bathroom shown in tip 2 and tip 8 (vanity on floating wall and toilet and shower on either side). what are the dimensions of this bathroom? how wide is the vanity and how wide is the space on the left and right of it. and lastly what is the space from the front of the vanity to the front of the bath? just trying to get a better understanding on the size needed for something like this, thanks so much. great content!
Looking at the height of the wrap of marble on top of the counters . I'm use to seeing 4 inches tall this looks much larger. Could you tell me the height of it. Getting ideas for a bathroom remodel.
