    I did testdrives with a BMW R1250GS and with a Triumph Tiger 1200 XRT....driving the smooth and super elastic powerfull Triumph at first and trying the really punchy BMW with its incredible torque some days later, the decision was clear after some minutes: I get my red Triumph Tiger 1200 XRT from the dealer TODAY!👍

      I felt the same way but test rode both a few weeks apart.

    I was a GS man for decades, now on my second 1200 tiger. What a great bike they are,smooth ,grunty ,fast a to b, all day comfortable and full of character. The GS is a brilliant bike in an efficient slightly boring way but it is not as 'cuddly ' or (I have to say) as well finished as the tiger.

    • @BikingBuddies
      @BikingBuddies  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I understand what you're saying about the GS - I test rode one a few weeks before the Tiger and have to say it was a superb bike - but in a kind of engineering way rather than a 'feel' way.
      Thanks for taking the time to watch my video and post a comment, it's very much appreciated.

    They dropped the Explorer moniker for this bike from the 2018 model and onward. Lovely bikes and great review. I have an XCa and the comfort really stands out on this bike.

    Thanks a lot for this test. It confirms that I made the right choice Tiger 1200 Desert Edition instead of GS 1250… some journalists do not even consider the Tiger 1200 as an adventure bike with off road capabilities (they are definitely wrong) so it is quite hard to see objective comparison Tiger 1200 vs. GS 1250

    Bought my 2018 XRt just before Christmas, absolutely in love with it. Just a bit over 700 miles thus far, having some issues with the left side switch cube and the fact that the clutch hose is much too stressed at full left lock but other than that it's simply superb. I was a Harley-Davidson owner 3 times prior to this machine and safe to say I'm not sure I'll ever go back!

    For six years I had a GS 1200, when I bought a new Tiger 1200, I couldn't get used to it, many things annoyed me, I wanted to exchange for GS LC, but it's a great motorcycle, I needed half a year and almost 10,000 km to find out.
    It has character, it is unique, and all around me boring GS ...
    Great review of the Tiger, but on serial tires, I wouldn't have the courage to go where you are.

    Great review Paul. It is interesting that the journos always claim the BMW is better, but I’m with you, if I was in the market for a 1200 I’d go Triumph too. I’d love to take my Tiger 800 on a few more tracks, but we don’t have many round here! My Tiger slowed me down quite a bit, and it now less likely I’ll lose my license!

    • @BikingBuddies
      @BikingBuddies  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've liked these bikes for years and having the opportunity to ride was was just the best. The problem has always been the R1 - I get a kick from it even before I've reached to bottom of our cul-de-sac, and there are only a few houses in it!
      I hope I can make the change in late summer but we'll see how that pans out. I too need to slow down a little but without compromising on enjoyment - the tiger is the bike to do that for me

    • @BikingBuddies
      @BikingBuddies  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd always go for the 1200 based on torque and smooth power delivery. Also and for me the 12s are shafts drive so no chain cleaning or wear if it's used all year round or taken off road.
      the 800 is a bit lighter but once the bikes moving, they all shed their weight - it's just picking it up if it's dropped that may be an issue

    great vid Paul, as to your comment on buying a secondhand 1 and being just as good....mmmm..... never had the opportunity to ride a 2019 model. Pre 2015 bike handles like its on rails, more than enough punch, toggle menu system is not quite as intuitive judging from your vid and no quick shift/ blip down and no power screen or electronic suspension but 10K cheaper. Why are you not considering the KTM? Have a go on a KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. It will give as near the acceleration and sport bike handling (on road) you're accustomed too. I do like the Triumph and considered it, but for the money, the ktm is the clear winner for me. Its a road bike on road but will do a bit of light off roading if required.

    Just subbed your channel . Enjoyed your enthusiastic review of the Tiger 1200. I just did a motovloggers 18month review of the 800 XRT . One of the things that always put me off the big Tiger was the extra weight. The GS carries its weight so low it doesn’t really feel like a big bike. The Tigers are by comparison more top heavy. How you you compare the top heaviness of the 1200 to the 800. ? Is a lot of the extra weight taken by the shaft drive - which would keep it lower? I guess U will just have to test ride the 1200 sometime but I wondered what you thought? Keep up the good work and perhaps check out my channel too 😁👍

    Buy one buddy for sure, but i would deffo keep your R1 just for a blast out now and again .Your R1 will always make you wet in your pants every time you ride her.

      Why do you have so much trouble being polite? And Alzheimer’s isn’t something to joke about!
