Helpful hint: generally all helmet designs are universal...so you can buy replacement pads/retention kits and upgrade your existing helmet. The comfort factor is well worth the cost and effort.
Agreed, you don't need a brand new shell you can just pick up a Team Wendy (or similar) liner and chin strap and instantly improve just about any helmet out there.
Need a survey of m-loc or ARC Rail
@@davidb9323 mlok is superior from a technical standpoint. It's a more durable connector system and at this point has as many if not more accessories available for it. The only reasons I would use ARC rails would be if I already had a helmet outfitted with them and therefore had accessories for them or if I had an opscore Amp headset because I don't believe those are compatible with Mlok but I could be completely wrong on the second point
@@death31313 Unity Tactical makes the Platform Adapter for M-LOK for Opscore Amp compatibility.
@@GB-01 I stand corrected, gotta love unity tactical, they make some really cool stuff. Thanks for the info.
Counterarguments:
1. just install some aftermarket pads and straps
2. just put some more velcro on the outside
3. just swap out the rail system
4. the advantage of arc rails is that its easier and faster to swap out attachments without having to unscrew anything
this. i bought a hudis tactical helmet for like $230 because its a 3a ballistic helmet but the strap style pushes the helmet against my forehead too much. i could shave down the front pad a little or just buy another strap system. currently in limbo on what to do about that.
@@alphawolfgang173
Just get the 50 dollar skydex pads and straps or make your own pads using pool noodle foam and those velcrow wall strips. I did it with my helmet and it works great
@@deltashot5608 i dont need to be that cheap, lol, but i get your point, its very doable. im just curious what budget suspension system would be best for a fast helmet. i already bought some pads so its comfy on the head, i just dont like that the suspension i have pushes my head forward so hard, and the dial on the back caught on my vests handle so i either get a new suspension system without a dial or restrain my handle.
@@alphawolfgang173 i personally dont use suspension because i use a small helmet and the pads alone create a tight fit. The only thing i dont like is that the top pad gets painful after a while because it's constantly being pressed onto my head. Its better to use the smallest helmet that can fit you so you have the least weight on your head and the most stationary fit
5. the cheap helmet is probably a knockoff chinese helmet
I bought the Long Fri helmet, and yes it was uncomfortable. But all I did was change the suspension and padding, and it was still a helluva lot less than HHV.
What suspension system did you swap it out with? im thinking about upgrading the padding, since the dial tension isnt great.
@@poortac5568 I recommend the Team Wendy or Ops Core systems.
That’s cause you have common sense and didn’t get paid to make this video like he did lol

Cause….. it is.
His video 6 months ago on that green one was “oh man this helmet is good for low budget”
As soon as he gets gifted the HHV and gets a cut of sales. “Man that green helmet is dog shit. Buy this one instead!”
At least your smart enough to catch that type of shit. Unlike the other 90% of his following that doesn’t realize this kid talks out of his ass 90% of the time.
I figured that out 6 years ago when him and his friends were 3 years behind the curve. But his little fan boy base protect them at all costs cause theyre good at playing army 🤣
I have a surplus MICH and a Long Fri. MICH is a bit heavier with less attachment options. I upgraded the suspension and pads in the Long Fri for about $25. I enjoy wearing it now with or without hearing protection and nods
I run a team Wendy bump and it is the most comfortable helmet I’ve ever worn. Played with all those ballistic USGI helmets in the OIF era l. Now that I am more after defending things like my home and family, I choose the bump. So much more comfortable than a ballistic helmet. Especially if you just want to scope out around your property with your NOGs and dogs. Figure your practical application and make choices from there. Just my opinion and remember ounces equal pounds in pounds equal pain.
"High quality" and "Hard Headed Veterans" do not belong in the same sentence as eachother
In theory, you could by the cheap one, add Velcro and padding and still be good!
never seen you do a vortex review. ill look thru your archive. i have had great luck with many vortex products. hmmmm. my eotechs are the best i have...for battery sales anyway.
As a HHV owner, I though the bad helmet was going to be a HHV...
HHV is chinesium. US made will eventually be out at 850ish.
Well if CorporateTube does delete your channel I just wanted to say thank you for all you have done!
I recently got my PVS-14 and financially I gotta buy my kit in pieces. Ultimately I have aspirations to have both a helmet, which will likely be this helmet, and I also wanted to have the Crye Nightcap as a special purpose option for on the go when bringing a whole helmet is just too much bulk. So anyway I got the crye nightcap first because it’s much cheaper and it does absolutely does the job. It is limited in what it is capable of, but I wore it around hiking through the desert for 3 hours and it absolutely is functional and reasonably comfortable for what it is.
So I would disagree that it’s not an option at all, it will for the time being be my go to war option, and once I can spend money on a ballistic helmet, that will be my go to war option and the nightcap will fall into a low profile/edc/hiking role that I intended for it.
Padding kits are cheap would fix your problems with both, there are 3 id recommend, two off amazon the pac foam and lux liner pad knockoff 4d by tnvc. My boatch helmet works just fine after the pad replaced
Was just looking at them today and was on the fence but your video are very informative about relevant topics so I got one
The reason the unity tactical ear pieces have that constant tension is because actual operators and law enforcement were having the click system you mentioned blown into the loose position effectively removing the seal on their ear pro from concussive blasts like door charges or something like that. The constant pressure was how Unity Tactical decided to deal with that in their particular design. Pretty sure it was Garand Thumb I heard this from. Also +1 for the HHV helmet. I know it isn't made in the USA but given how much stuff purchased that was made in the USA which now sits on top of this I couldn't pass up a well priced 3A rated helmet. Got mine LNIB for like $400 off ar15 equipment exchange.
I'm sure if I got a $1200 helmet I would like it better but I'm pretty happy with the HHV. I could probably upgrade the pad system and such as well but it fits pretty snugly and doesn't feel uncomfortable. Overall it's a pretty good helm especially for $400.
Had an hhv balistic then upgraded to a team wendy and id never go back. At least change out the pads and put the cam system in your hhv

Had to stop and comment about the unity hearing protection adapters. The ARC rail adapters would not maintain a seal on the ears during certain types of operations such a parachute operations, or during explosive entries to name a few. That is why the unity types do not lock away from your dome. You have the ability to rotate them up on the helmet if you do not need the hearing protection.
Bro I still have my ACH from oif 07-08 and those velcro hook pads haven't failed me not even once,. matter of fact I just did an upgrade on the pads since the msa ones were jacked up after soo many years and I was ready to replace those velcro round pads were so hard to remove and the velcro itself was great that I decided to leave them alone, if it is not broke don't fix it. I replaced my pads with a brand new set of skydex (dunno if the company stil around but those were given to me as a gift so why not...) they feel great even tho my ach is heavy, it sits confortable in my head and haven't had an issue yet...
The cheap IIIA helmets are $160 on ebay. PS: All helmets are uncomfortable. If you're holding out for a comfortable helmet, you'll never buy one.
Does the hhv have a helmet cover you can buy off of hhv, that fits the ate hhv version
You don't know how they are making money while selling a helmet for $485? You must not be aware their helmets are made in Chy-Nuh.

Honestly, I bought a surplus PASGT helmet, refurbished it with a new suspension and strap system, and got a nice ballistic helmet for $150 total investment. It does not support muffs (I have Surefire plugs anyway), but clamping nightvision mounts are readily available. I can and have worn it for hours, with no discomfort, and there's zero movement when I move my head around. If you want something affordable that will save your life, and can be turned into something quite nice, a surplus helmet may be your best bet. In my opinion, a MICH is probably the best helmet to get from a value and capability standpoint (plus they're still made new), but virtually any helmet can be made much more capable with affordable aftermarket kits.
Here's my issue with commercial-spec helmets: what you buy is what you get. They're proprietary, so there's no aftermarket support. With a military-pattern helmet, there's all sorts of accessories both military and commercial vendors have released over the years. If you want better padding, it's available. If you want better straps, you can get it. Your helmet didn't come with side rails? Someone makes them (there's often no-drill solutions as well). Want a ballistic shield? You can get it.
Best thing about the PASGT helmet compared to all the variety of FAST helmets is it actually covers your head, the side exposure of the FAST helmets is out of the question for me, if I could afford it I would just get a devtac ronin
@@c03_psychie20 From my understanding, the SF guys prefer the high cut because having good hearing and awareness is going to prevent you from getting shot a far greater % of the time than the amount of times the extra inch and a half of side protection is going to save you. There's also the consideration that neither the high cut, nor the low cut helmets are rated for rifle rounds, which is the majority of the weapons encountered. So why reduce your awareness when odds are the weapon hitting your helmet is likely to punch anyway?
@@oddeyeus2365 I own a PASGT helmet and it does not hinder my awareness. My point is that they use the FAST to attach things to it, but it offers less protection and has much less of a chance of a bullet ricochet, you could always get a headstrap to attach things to it rendering the FAST useless and only dead weight. In terms of rifle rated helmets, they do exist, but then the SF guys come up with brand new excuses even when the better(yes, yet heavier) gear can increase their chances of survival
@@c03_psychie20 That level of arrogance is pretty hilarious and impressive. 1st, how would you know if your awareness is hindered by wearing the PASGT or not? Have you gone out and actually tested it? Have you run through combat scenarios against real humans wearing the helmet vs not to see how much it affects your performance? How much it affects your ability to hear what others are saying to you? What ear pro do you wear under the PASGT? Normal plugs that reduce your hearing and make communication with teammates more difficult? Or do you slap a modern electronic ear pro on under it? How long did you trek through rough terrain in that setup to see just how bad and uncomfortable wedging ear pro under a PASGT is? Just because your own brain tells you that you aren't affected, doesn't mean it's true. Everyone likes to think that they are at peak performance. You're the hero of your own story.
2nd, I am going to trust the judgement of the thousands of SF troops that have spent millions of man hours down range with their lives on the line over your opinion. What reason would they have to "come up with excuses?" Yeah I don't think so. You know we have extremely extensive body armor setups, with plates for the torso, kevlar all around, shoulders, crotch, etc. Notice how you don't see that much in the field anymore? Because it sucks to wear it and move around in it that long and begins to degrade combat performance. Just because something is more protective doesn't mean it increases your overall chance of survival. Combat is dynamic and there are many factors at play. More armor is not always better.
3rd, Missions and mission necessities change. PASGT may work great for the situations that you are in or think you are going to find yourself in. It's a fine helmet. I own one, as well as an ECH, and a high cut. If I'm going to be vehicle borne and have no intentions of disembarking besides getting from A to B, I grab the ECH because the odds of getting hit from the sides and having glass flying are much higher in a vehicle situation and the weight and communication becomes much less relevant. Every helmet has its advantages and disadvantages, you can like your helmet and be confident in it, but don't trick yourself into believing it doesn't have its own drawbacks and doesn't hamper your awareness/hearing.
@@oddeyeus2365 what I said is just the protection ALONE and based off just wearing it, all those other factors will obviously have a much more complex affect based on the situation like you mentioned, so long story short take my opinion into account when staying in one fixed location for a long time wearing that form of protection, when moving and having to do many things over long hours...that's a different story. Also a perfect example where all that lightweight gear, awareness and communication goes out the window is the Niger ambush, that is is the standard equipment the soldiers prefer and was also the cause of their death. When I said the thing about excuses is when there is a possibility of creating better stronger armor but also lightweight to match the needs and still perform the same can be made but they'll create a new excuse not to wear it which actually means they're happy with the gear they already have regardless of the situation and what it requires
I solid ballistic Level IIIA helmet with pads and retention straps does not cost more than $450 (2022). If you want the rest such as ballistic face shields, rhino mounts, battery packs, ear orotection, commo, and NVG14s, up the ante.

Solid commercial. I have an HHV bump and it’s decent.
I'm not one to judge. Hell, first helmet rig was a skateboard helmet I got at a yard sale for $5, added a one-hole shroud my buddy hooked me up with, and a Rhino mount that I found at the Army surplus store for under $50.
Uglier than sin, but it was all I could afford at the time.
I subscribed because of this honest review. Thanks for not being a Blue Falcon!
The ARC rail system is designed to NOT be solid, in the event of snag/impact the attached accessory is meant to breakaway at 8 ft lbs (11 nm) so it doesnt snap your neck... The ear protection mounts are constant pressure because breach and airborne dudes were having their eardrums blown out when the hold-off style mounts were spontaneously holding off at the wrong time from pressure; also some that held a high cheekweld with their rifle would have it pushed open by the buttstock.
How do they make money!? Manufacture in China and mark it up 2000%.

@@gunrelatedvids so Protection Group Denmark for the win?
@@davidmacon1138 why not an upgraded gentex cvc?
@@gunrelatedvids that is definitely an interesting idea! If only iiia though.... would seem to be perfect!
@@davidmacon1138 fair. Be aware of marketing terms like "nij rated" and that it isnt the same as certified. There is a website that has a list of all NIJ certified armor makers
Are helmets from tachelmet legit? They have level 4 helmets for mid 200s that are supposedly nij certified
The way they’re making money is the armor level. It’s only IIIA without the upgrade frontal plate. If you tack that on, it gets pretty pricey.
You said nice helmet not HHV
For my off-road bicycle, I bought a Team Wendy Carbon Bump helmet and off-road mandible. It already saved my head/face in a lay down.
I had an hhv bump, it was cheap garbage. Now I run a $100 mich instead.
Lol. I’m just into this video and you’ve already got me trusting your judgement. Lol. Vortex. Is it Night Force? No. But as an avid archer I’ve ran Vortex Razor optics for years, as have my friends. Not to mention the many rifle scopes and other products of theirs I run like monoculars, binos and I’ve never had issues with them. Not saying some of my peers haven’t had to utilize the warranty, but every single person I know that’s had to use it was well taken care of.
I was looking at at tactical helmet on Amazon and I was thinking $60 was kind of pricey, boy was I wrong
Not everyone has deep pockets like vso and not everyone tryn mount $10k nods on helmets. The el cheapo is good enuff if it holds its 3a ratings. Just tweak paddings for personal fitments
it does hold its rating, we shot one 🇺🇸
Talks smack about Vortex but then starts talking about HHV helmets...yeah nah.
Can u afford a gentex? If so u should try one out. They got like 3 diff models and would enjoy your take on thw higher end ones. U can prob get a used TW helmet so ur not giving them ur money
No, TW does not exist. It’s no longer about the money.
Thank you for the video. I got an HHV. They're pretty cool.
Nice comparison, thanks
Why are your guns upside down?
Also this is crs firearms I could really use some input a night vision
Don’t really have to go through the competitive options just tell me which one I need to buy pvs-14 ????? Make and model
TNVC pvs 14 , gen 3 white phosphorus you will not regret it! Amazing just suvk up the waiting time Its worth it!
I just watched GARANDTHUMB and he was saying something about why it's not good to have that click out feature. I forget why. But I get why it's good to just move them instead of clicking
Oh ya because it didnt click down all the way and it was at a moment where it wasn't good for sound vs hearing.
HHV helmets are cheap because they’re made in China, they will stop what they say they do but back face deformation is pretty extreme
Chinese helmet vs Chinese helmet... lots of guys selling done up ACH US made helmets for sub-400.
dude just made me self conscious of my venom purchase in one second
don't listen to the opinions of random douches on the internet and take them to heart, this includes me, go test and play with it yourself use a compilations of peoples opinions to form a base line for your concepts, leap off that and be good man.
Give price range. There's no point to me doing a web search on a helmet or sight that is going to cost $1500 or more for it. Doesn't matter how nice or good it is, if I cannot afford it, I don't care.
All I can say is your idea of CHEAP is way off from mine lmao
I cut a newer late 2000's pasgt and turned it into a high cut :)
