Ranjith's so so clear in his thoughts...Madras is just an awesome movie.......Madhan, The feel you say in the second half needs such a cool First half for the audience to connect with... it is so surprising, madhan has lost his sense...and doesnt seem to like the movie...I'm even more surprised, you were a film critic even without this basic sense..! For every question madhan asked, Ranjith replied well. But madhan just doesn't seem to be accepting the answer. He has his own idea of how a movie should be made and criticizing which is very wrong. Eg. He says he never knew where Karthi worked. Seriously? First of all the director hints that Karthi works in IT sector in a few scenes, no need to get into details. But where he works doesn't make the core of the movie, so why focus on that? And regarding Johnny? I lived in madhavaram, which is in north chennai, during my childhood. And I still remember one kind-hearted homeless person who roamed around proudly speaking english (with mistakes), everyone knew him, but they used to call him mental (pardon my language), but they also said due to family/money issues he became like that. Ranjith answers correctly that people like Johnny only use language to express what they want to say and they don't care if others don't understand it at all. And that too is how I remember that homeless man during my childhood days. Only the people who grew up in such areas know the reality of these areas and NOT Madhan who just has an image that low class people should only be shown in slums and should only speak in crass language and wear un-fashionable clothes. The movie is based on government housing board flats, and Ranjith shows how the people talk, dress, the issues they face in such a place PERFECTLY. This is one of the best movies I have seen in recent years.

Really i am disappointed with Mathan's review. For some of the waste movie he is to give good review but for movie like madras which shows of the other side of north madras. Where people's emotion on politics, love, romance, rationalism are clearly minded it.

His questions just showed that he didn't understand the movie and its symbolisms. This movie is not about a wall or a pettai brawls. Wall was just used as a symbol to power. This movie is about a struggle and greed to grab power, not just daavu fights. Prepare better, Sir.

Madras is refreshingly competent in both areas, but this interviewer is not focusing on these. I think this inability to focus, appreciate these aspect speaks to why many other tamil movies are sub-par.
