David Mitchell's Funniest Moments as Shakespeare from S2 - Pt 2 | Upstart Crow | BBC Comedy Greats 1710pm 22.1.23 Is that the spencer chap who featured in a sit com re: the pitfalls of trynna find suitable employ...? that was an ok show. i think he ended up getting his finger stuck in a hole in a sand stone wall or something prior to a wedding. anyhow; his Gervais take is pretty amusing... and one does assume that the royal court is lettered with such trifling sit com writers and would-be spies that it would be a trifle bore and chore... auh...auh....auh... etc..

Canned laughter sucks. If we need to be told when to laugh it wasn't bloody funny.
I think it's a meta thing. They are playing it as "Shakestoe and Son," incorporating well-known tropes of classic TV comedy, like stopgap wisecracks, addressing the camera, and laugh tracks.

Yes, weak script. I’m a David Mitchell fan but to me, this is not funny. Blackadder, now that was funny.
You have to be a Shakespeare fan (and know some of his history) to appreciate this show.
