thats a series 2 r100 engine, the series one has the oil pump built in to the timing cover, and the through bolts come through the front plate and have nuts on them. what you have there is basicaly an rx3 engine.the 10a was used in the cosmo, r100 and rx3 from the late 60s to 72/73 in some parts of the world. Rx3s in usa were sold with 12a twin dizzy, and i think you guys only got the series 2 r100, which is what this engine is from.
Kyle, l had 2 10As in 2 1970 RX3. in New Zealand, they had 6mm carbon apex seals and twice the number of side seals. There were also twin disks 12As which came out in early Mazda RX2s.
Thinking about it, going from a 1 liter NA two rotor, to modern 2 liter custom built 3 rotor with a turbocharger, the power jumped from a 100 to a 1000hp.
Definitely a piece of history so to speak. Looks to be in nice shape externally at least. Eunos Cosmo is such a sick ride. That's one Mazda I'd definitely drive. Back in the days I was a tech at a Mazda/ VW stealership. Registered master VW/ Audi and BMW tech, but of course when we were busy or I was caught up with whatever I had in my bay I'd turn some wrenches on the Mazda's. Did a ton of work on the Speed 3/ Speed 6, cx-7's/ 9's, rx-8's and a whole bunch of other stuff. They LOVED to pull me off a VW job I was doing and give me anything MZR related. They were 'all-about' me replacing blown turbskis, wideband o2's, etc. (I had a trick to remove the o2 without trashing the threads on the sensor or in the downpipe.) The way 8 am, I will literally turn a wrench on just about anything. Cars, diesels, HD stuff, machines/ construction equipment, power sports/ boats, etc. 25+ years of wrenching under my belt so 8 have seen quite a bit of shit along the way. 😉 Lots of service bulletins and just regular repairs for the most part was the usual operation. The loved to give me diag work, since I was good at it, and folks with decent diag abilities are few and far in between from what I've seen. I remember my first day. The service manager wanted to test my skills since a few other techs that worked there were attesting to my work, so the service manager Andy threw me a 'curve ball' as he called it and we pushed in a cx-7 that had previously been barely started to be worked on by another tech (a pet peeve for a tech,) and the cx-7 was left outside. So myself and a couple other techs pushed this dead thing into my bay. It had a boat anchor for a long block. Fast forward to the next day and I had R&R'd the entire drivetrain, subframe, x-case, etc. I had to transfer everything over to a fresh longblock including the injector cups which needed a special tool that nobody knew how to use it, even the Mazda master tech. 🤔 So I took care of it, and while reinstalling/ using the scantool to go thru the motions, and it fired right up that afternoon with no leaks or CEL's. After that day the service manager/ service writers were giving me the most difficult jobs that rolled into the shop. I would come in the AM sometimes to see a 'pile of crap' sitting in my bay that needed tons of work, just waiting for me to crack open my tool chest, and save they're asses. The R.O.'s would look like a damn story book there was so many pages! Ugh what a freakin nightmare the stealership is in general. I have worked at a boatload of them, including indies, and finally my own track car prep and fab and tuning shop where I have a select customer base. It is much better to say the least. LOL Won't be doing any of the repetitive service bulletins, recalls, etc. That crap is extremely annoying to say the least. Sorry for the rant, listening to you talk about the rotary/ Mazda stuff and seeing that engine had me reminiscing about it. Glad to be gone from the stealer!!! Thank you again for sharing this! That old Dorito is definitely a rare one and especially how well it looks on the outside. One can only hope the internals look as great as the outside does! Thanks again for sharing brother!! and keep the KICKASS vidjas coming!!! 👍👍😎
An old friend had a 10a in an rx3 sedan but was seized when he bought it. Was pulled out and replaced with a 13bPP and used as a Burnout Hack. The 10a was pulled to pieces ( I ended up with the Rotors and had them in my room for years then passed onto a good friend as garage Ornaments when I moved out New Zealand )
Hi Kyle I noticed your post on the 10a rotary I litre. I am based in the UK and have just acquired a 10a Rotary engine the same. It was being rebuilt before the owner passed away in 1999. It has been sat on the work bench in his garage ever since, before I acquired it. I know little about it , but it does turn over and I have made a video of it. There are various photos I have taken. I don’t believe this engine was supplied to the UK, but I could be wrong. I am sure that there is someone who could make use of this for a restoration etc. I have a video and photos which I can’t even to add to the comment? . As I said it turns over freely and I believe quite some work has gone into it. Thanks Stuart.
Hey Kyle I've been watching your channel for a while and it made me thinking a lot about rotarys Luke do you have any places you'd recommend to get rotary parts from and also do you think it could ever be possible to add a rotor to a renesis engine and how it would perform
Is it Chip R Sue (spelling)? I am so impressed with what they did with the pp housings that I want to work with you in doing an electric-supercharged 20B or 26B for the 77 Vette. I will have to ship the car out to you.
Purchased a R100 back in the day...1990ish had to evict a homeless man to take possession. The rx2's, 3's, repu's, 7's and 8s were a pure joy to dance with.
The exhaust ports on the twin dizzy engines 10a and 12a were amazing gave off a real strong brap

@@austinbrown6950 Hi there, do you still happen to have this engine? ☺

Hey Kyle, big fan and I love the content! Just wanted to ask if you'd ever worked on or seen a Norton rotary motorcycle before?
Never worked on one but have seen 👍 thanks so much for watching

Sorry, I meant twin dizzy RX2s.
