This is exactly what I needed! There are a ton of 30 minute super in depth tutorials that cover every feature, and it's just so overwhelming when all I wanted to learn how to do is simple frame-by-frame. Thanks so much!
As a person who uses flipaclip only I think I will not use any of the tracks or anything I just want simple frame by frame like I’m used to! So thank you sir you are definitely the greatest like everyone says in these comments
Showing how to do first and last frames and then fill in the gaps is super helpful to someone new to animation like me. When I was a child I wanted to do animation but didn’t know how. I just got Dreams for fun but am already hooked and have learned so much in the two days it’s been out. Your video just really helped me a lot, thanks, you got a new sub.
Thank you!! Scale/shift feature here I Couldn’t figure out how to get too consistently, couldn’t find a straight forward explanation anywhere! Seems dumb, but it’s always the small stuff X3
For those wondering this is pose to pose animation, it’s great for animating actions. There’s also straight ahead animation which is to do with more organic forms like water, where you just draw each frame one at a time without planning.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I very recently switched from FlipaClip to Procreate dreams, and it almost feels like I’m learning how to animate all over again.
One Tipp: when you struggle with stabilization from pencil, then make a pencil in procreate, add stabilization and drag and drop it to dreams! It works
Simple and straight to the point, all these other drawing tutorials are long and can be confusing, just spite them up in three and make a video for each way to animate,Frame by Frame, KeyFraming and Performance and go into details. Any Tutorials you all recommend???
Y’know when I was a kid I wanted to be an animator and would spend hours on flipnote but later lost that desire due to being more interested in illustration. However, Procreate Dreams is really making me want to practice animating again for fun.
Thank you for this great tutorial. 🎉 Can you please explain how to draw a perfect circle in dreams? Because in procreate you just have to put one finger on the screen but I couldn’t do it in dreams. That would help so much! Thank you 🙏🏼
Nice video. Can you show a good way to work with a sketch in one layer and then how to do the final art on top - and colors? I think it is not that easy - or maybe there is a smart way?
This is exactly what I'd like to know as well! I used to use regular procreate to animate and the main reason I got Dreams was to hopefully make this a bit easier
Would be great if they can introduce concept of camera ... move from point A to B. Right now it will be moving things around, so with camera you can get away with just animating camera, you have to animate objects in 2 points
It sounds like you’re using a paper-like screen protector, how big of a difference has it made for your art? I feel like I don’t mind the smoothness of the screen by itself, I actually don’t use a screen protector in general, but I do like the idea of a little more friction. Has it eaten through your pen nubs?
I’m not the creator of the video, but I use these screen protectors, too! I really liked paperlike, i didn’t really like a dupe I tried (the texture was already gone so much faster on the knock-off than on the paperlike) At first I also thought the smoothness of the screen wasn’t that big of a problem, but it’s so nice to draw on a matte screen like that. I don’t press extremely hard with my pen, but do apply a bit of pressure, and my nibs never looked like the ones I saw from others that were completely destroyed. Mine only slightly change shape on top and for that I bought a multiple pack of cheap nib replacements, and rotate between them if I feel the need to (but they always still worked, it’s just a cosmetic change actually). But it’s really not as bad as other people described to me. I’m actually a big fan of the original paperlike as well, but I only tried one other brand that I didn’t like.
thanks mate! only thing that drives me crazy is that I cannot figure out.. if I delete a drawing the rest of the drawings dont slide back to fill in the gap and I see no way to move all of them at the same time unless use grouping.. which isnt optimal. I hope they get some updates soon. has a lot of potential. I miss the old x-sheet in Maya way of doing things
I know I’ve only just started learning this program (and how to animate at the same time) so I have to be forgiving with myself, but when I tell you I feel so dumb cuz I fully forgot about the flip book feature and about adding a key frame in between frames 🤦♂️
anyway to retime them all together so the action doesn't happen so fast. newb here. agreed that all the other tutorials are so in depth they skip out on basic posing, timing, and spacing.
Hey James, do you know how to colour on the layer below. Or easily fill the below layer in with a flat colour instead of paiting each frame with colour?
thanks for that, that was very helpful. however I feel like its a bit of a workaround for a UI that doesn't seem to be very well designed for simple hand drawn animation lol. needing to use that little flipbook window to do individual frames is no bueno to me!
They both have there ups and downs There are things toonsquid has that Procreate dreams doesn’t And many things procreate dreams has that toonsquid doesn’t
I’d say wait its planning on adding features. Lemme repeat, planning. Some of which are essential like lasso tool. So its in its very early stages. Wait.
What about spinning a frame I tried so hard to do it with that recording frame but it barely gave me any time to make something spin if I hold it slightly to long the whole page fills up with that layer and when I was finally able to get it spin all the way around it looks so choppy
I prefer to start my sketch layers in procreate, i know how to export, my big issue is aligning all layers but i'm not getting the onion skin to help.any tips
This was very helpful! I have one question tho. If you want to make it have a bit of squash and stretch how do you approach that? Do you hand draw it or can you do that with the scale of procreate dreams?
You can squish and squash the selected image if you grab the element on the top or then bottom! Id recommend watching a tutorial but its a really neat feature and easy to use!
Hey whats the best framerate when you want to animate something? 12, 24 , 60 ? Im assume in 60 f per sec i need to draw 60 frames an i got i sek move :)
Is it only in my Dreams, or have you all the same issue, that every drawing or other tracks, don’t expand automatically? Hope you know what I mean. I don’t have to cut the tracks, because it is only a frame. I don’t want that 😂
If you double tap in the timeline it’ll show the individual frames and let you add more btw
Not instantly, just to zoom in
Also swiping with three fingers slowly horizontally or vertically, it’ll make it zoom in. Longer, or taller
I don’t even animate (I’m an okayish amateur when it comes to drawing), and this is incredibly helpful. Thank you for putting this out there.
This is exactly what I needed! There are a ton of 30 minute super in depth tutorials that cover every feature, and it's just so overwhelming when all I wanted to learn how to do is simple frame-by-frame. Thanks so much!
You sir are the greatest. Every procreate dreams getting started video I have seen has completely ignore this, so thank you for making this!
I’ve been animating for ages and I don’t know why I’ve never thought to do this. This is insanely helpful thank you
As a person who uses flipaclip only I think I will not use any of the tracks or anything I just want simple frame by frame like I’m used to! So thank you sir you are definitely the greatest like everyone says in these comments

Thank Lord you're left handed. That suited the UI placement.
Wonderful tutorial.
Thank you!! Scale/shift feature here I Couldn’t figure out how to get too consistently, couldn’t find a straight forward explanation anywhere! Seems dumb, but it’s always the small stuff X3
Very helpful tip! From now on will always use these guidelines. Draw a start and end point. Then work out the in betweens.
thank you so much! I've been using the onion skinning backwards all the way, this really helps me visualize it better
For those wondering this is pose to pose animation, it’s great for animating actions. There’s also straight ahead animation which is to do with more organic forms like water, where you just draw each frame one at a time without planning.
Great job explaining an industry-level practice in an easy-to-understand way.
Great tutorial!
Over one minute in and it already helped so much! 😅 I didn’t know there was a little plus hidden to add a new frame!
Gosh this seems simple. Yet it blew my mind! brb animating like this ✍️✍️✍️
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I very recently switched from FlipaClip to Procreate dreams, and it almost feels like I’m learning how to animate all over again.
One Tipp: when you struggle with stabilization from pencil, then make a pencil in procreate, add stabilization and drag and drop it to dreams! It works
this is the best break down ive seen since Dreams dropped! thanks!
This is great!
Thanks James...the struggle was real last night...but managed to somewhat get used to it...but this still helps
this helped me understand frame by frame so much better thank you
What a wonderful tutorial! 😃 please do more tips and tricks
This is the best simple tutorial I've seen thus far. Thank you!
Thanks from this old school animator!
Please keep making videos like this💖💖💖💖💖💖
As someone just getting into 2D animation stuff like this is so useful
This was really helpful, thanks!
I can’t draw to save my life let alone animate, but I want to use this program. It’s so incredible 😍
Fantastic little tutorial - love it!
“And that’s it!” Got an honest cackle from me ngl
Simple and straight to the point, all these other drawing tutorials are long and can be confusing, just spite them up in three and make a video for each way to animate,Frame by Frame, KeyFraming and Performance and go into details. Any Tutorials you all recommend???
Simple, concise and practical. Thank you!
As a beginner this is really help full thank you :)
While the tutorial was really nice, I also appreciate Max Richter's "Vivaldi Recomposed" in the background!
great , thanks
I do frame by frame a lot, thank you! Now i just need to know how to select multiple frames at once
Love this video! Please do more animation tutorials!
Wow, thank you for sharing that tip!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I’ve been stuck and this is so helpful!
Thank you. Great and simple tutorial.
Thanks this is really good for us beginners! Very clear Thanks

Just subscribed!
I hope you make more Procreate Dreams videos ❤
good lesson!
Y’know when I was a kid I wanted to be an animator and would spend hours on flipnote but later lost that desire due to being more interested in illustration. However, Procreate Dreams is really making me want to practice animating again for fun.
This is so useful! Thank you 😎
Thank u
Great tutorial! Thank you!

Thank you for your teaching.

Oh yes! Ii will be super helpful 😍

@@blackberrybriars actually i think rough animator works better for traditional frame by frame
Would be great if they can introduce concept of camera ... move from point A to B. Right now it will be moving things around, so with camera you can get away with just animating camera, you have to animate objects in 2 points
This is AMAZING. I really needed this. Thank you!

That pen! How did you make it drag and draw the lines smoothly?
thanks mate! only thing that drives me crazy is that I cannot figure out.. if I delete a drawing the rest of the drawings dont slide back to fill in the gap and I see no way to move all of them at the same time unless use grouping.. which isnt optimal. This is such a great advice! Thanks!
SMART! Thank you lots!
This is awesome!!
Thank you for this!!!
yoooo that is so helpful

nice one mate
I don’t have this app yet but, it’s design and color scheme looks like a better advanced version of fliaclip.
Thanks my man
Thank you! Tell me please How did turn onion skin on? Couldn’t find it
Thank you 😮🎉

well i am not very sure if i want to upgrade to dreams from toonsquid after not heareing many good things about it. what do you think?
i would wait a little bit til they at least add a lasso selection tool
They both have there ups and downs
There are things toonsquid has that Procreate dreams doesn’t
And many things procreate dreams has that toonsquid doesn’t
I’d say wait its planning on adding features. Lemme repeat, planning. Some of which are essential like lasso tool.
So its in its very early stages. Wait.
thats actually the only thing that I found to be disturbing. Luckily it only requires a different approach than usual
I like the tip
awesome tip! what brush is that? it seems to follow the tip of the pen. Sorry I am a bit new to procreate.
Keyframes and inbetweening 👍
What about spinning a frame I tried so hard to do it with that recording frame but it barely gave me any time to make something spin if I hold it slightly to long the whole page fills up with that layer and when I was finally able to get it spin all the way around it looks so choppy

What is the maximum time scale? Thank you.
I tried this but somehow I can’t see my first frame when I split it and erased the second one?
How can we get that disney pencil?
Wow, you just discovered how to use onion skin!
Is that really what you took from this?
How do you import the backgrounds?
Hey whats the best framerate when you want to animate something? 12, 24 , 60 ?
Im assume in 60 f per sec i need to draw 60 frames an i got i sek move :)
What’s the brush?
Are tracks the same as layers in dreams?
Is it only in my Dreams, or have you all the same issue, that every drawing or other tracks, don’t expand automatically? Hope you know what I mean. I don’t have to cut the tracks, because it is only a frame. I don’t want that 😂
Why won’t they give us 5 fps?? Stylistically it’s nice
Can't say im a big fan of this software, i'm still doing my job better on procreate with some quick flipbook sketches.
