    As a beginner animator I've been struggling with timing a lot and I've never seen anyone explain it using this method and just after watching this video I feel like I've learned so much. A++ I can't wait to watch more

    I worked in 2d animation for 9 years and I can't still explain it like what you did here. And also you are right at the start of the video.. It is still overwhelming even if you have experience. I highly recommend your teaching for beginners and refreshers. a short Animation Survival kit

    that note about the perception of the length of the breakdown is one of the most valuable tips ive learned about animating this year. Been learning for a long time and that made a lot of concepts i've been mulling about click in a satisfying way. Thank you for your work!

    Yes I'm so glad I found this! I've never seen another guide describe timing with holds like this. Anything involving a timing chart always assumes we're using a consistent timing (on ones, twos etc.)

    just fantastically explained. I see aaron blaise do it like this all the time on his livestreams with the breakdown so I picked it up, but you verbalizing like this is so great

      Yeh it's definitely something you'll start noticing more now you're seen it once. Check out the blocking for Pixar and Disney 3d films. They're using the same technique

    I enjoyed seeing how you could do the blocking phase in After Effects - I spent a lot of the episode wondering how you could do it in AE, and lo and behold you covered it! As always, an amazing video

    This did help alot, I did alot of frame by frame, but it's more facial expressive/ science fiction / Effects type of animation. This is great tutorial for anatomy movement animations.

    Bravo! I was stubbornly looking for software explanations, but your detailed explanation of the process help me understand why and what I had to do, and not how (click here or there). The software is secondary to the process of ideation and storyboarding.

    Your classes are top notch and they helped me a lot! I am so much better because of you.
    I just hope you can make more of these classes, and would like you to know that you can simply show us the normal recording of animate UI without have to "redraw" the animate UI and also animating the UI. That must've taken you a lot of time!
    Anyway, that's just a personal comment to ease your workload to create these wonderful classes. Sincerely love your work.

    This was super helpful and definitely makes tackling animation a little more palatable. Everytime I try to do an animating exercises I always get confused on where to add frames and if I'm even doing it right lol

    Even with stop motion there is a blocking stage. It's good to try out timing and it's also good for testing if the scene is possible with the puppet because it is a physical object. Like a rehearsal. And you take photographs as you go. And using the stills that you took they can be used as targets when animating the final shot.
