The plot and moral were a bit obvious, yes, but that doesn't make me like this episode any less, and I'm glad you're equally open-minded about it. I mean, we got to see both Ember and Thorax return, they managed to help each other out with their leadership issues, and the mystery of the Map deepens even further now that we know it can call Spike, too. Just think: the Crusaders might be next for a summons, and that'd be amazing. =) As for how Spike acted, yeah, he made some dumb decisions, but he's still just a kid, and he was under enormous pressure trying to keep them both happy. I don't think Twilight would have fared much better, and we've seen how well _she_ handles pressure.
I agree completely also it annoyed me in this episode that Starlight and Twilight kind of just made it seem like Spike just got this idea out of nowhere when they both agreed with him and kept them separated the entire day , also even though I love Starlight it got on my nerves a little bit that she got called by the map before Spike I mean he literally has his own chair
Nice reaction! I freaking loved this episode. Ironically, Spike was the worst thing about it, but both Ember and Thorax were at their absolute best. I loved Thorax's awkward yet charming personality, and then Ember striaght-maning the ponies and the pony universe. I love it when they poke fun at how the ponies look and their names and stuff. Just makes it a little more relatable fun to watch. The scene with Ember and Thorax was also fantastic, and Ember trying to talk about her feelings was the best thing. Plus bonus points for the adorable ponies/ outfits for the trumpeters. :D

Regarding your question about why most changelings don't become bigger things when fighting, it seems likely that most of them simply can't (and those that can can only hold the transformation for a limited time). A future episode indicates as much at least.
Ember was trying to be friendly by putting food on the wall, the way she thought Spike and friends put her favorite food on the castle walls. don't worry, every other reactor I have watched missed that bit of dialogue and assumed Ember was being a bitch toward Derpy.
So this episode confirms that in addition to breathing fire, Ember can also sneeze fire as well as burp fire too. But that made me think of a very funny, embarrassing and irreverent possibility about her........... Does that mean that she farts fire too ? Or an even more embarrassing scenerio, imagine if she can snart (Both sneeze and fart at the same time) fire ? LOL.

I guess the reason the changelings didn't bother using big creatures is a testament to how Queen Chrysalis failed as a leader. She didn't teach her changelings to think for themselves, so they just took over Canterlot as they were. Also, Thorax has a reason to change into a giant bear: he's defending a friend. Back then, the changelings had no connections or friendships, so their motive to fight wasn't nearly as strong.
great choice for intro, love that song. Also I was fine with it calling Spike, mainly because by now I'm over the fact that it calls others besides the mane six after my meltdown. In fact I think that I would have been ok with it calling Spike even if he was the first one called. I mean he does have a throne too. Of course this is hindsight speaking, so can't tell for sure how I would have reacted if it had happened that way. Guess we'll never really know. but yeah, I'm fine with it.

Spike contradicts himself when he thinks Ember won't like Thorax because he thinks hes to wimpy for Ember to like him yet he thinks Thorax will go to war with Ember because apparently he's that tough, also while both Ember and Thorax love Spike clearly Thorax loves him more because he gets in a fight he would surly loose at the cost of his life just because Spike got yelled at.
Also side note I never understood why so many people were upset about Spike getting call by the map , actually I was a little upset when Starlight got called by the map before him , because of the fact that Spike actually at the chair which means he has a connection to it more of a connection than Starlight dose in my opinion ( I do love Starlight but I just hate that it seems like the writers gave more respect to her character then spikes )

you know i don't understand why spike was so worried about ember and throax not getting along. The changlings have only shown to be hostile to ponies. queen Chrysalis as far as i can tell only wanted equestria to fall or be under her rule. which to my knowledge the dragon lands are outside the equestrian borders. she would have no beef with the dragons. spike was just being over paranoid to me.
Well to be fair he has lived with Twilight his whole life he deserves a freak out or two , I mean honestly compare his reasonings to some of Twilight's freak-outs

This was a weird episode just because I didn't know how to feel about it. I did enjoy it, but I just felt kind of weird about it. However the ending made up for it big time, it was a great ending. And I do like that Spike is becoming more and more mature, although I'm still surprised that Spike was called by the map; that really surprised me. (Still hoping for the CMC's to get called). Also I loved that Ember made the joke about Starlight and Twilight seeming similar, I thought it was hilarious. And Starlight was great in this episode, I loved her little comments that she did; so funny. Spike gets better and better with each episode/lesson he learns. Great reaction and can't wait for more! XD.
I dunno if Spike was really being as stupid as people seem to think. I can totally see where his fears were coming from, and even Twilight and Starlight seemed a bit worried about the situation. Honestly, if it was any other Changeling and Dragon, it probably really would've led to some serious trouble. In fact, it might even have with Thorax and Ember, if Spike DIDN'T mess things up first and cause them to get mad at him. I can easily see an episode where Spike would've taken them both into account but those two didn't get along at all. Also, keep the hat off if you want. xD I doubt anyone REALLY cares, and if they do... their problem. :P
People seem to forget that Spike, at the end of the day, IS A KID. It's only rational that Spike's going to go through a lot of "amateur" mistakes due to that fact alone. Yes he can be very smart and level-headed, but that DOESN'T mean he's suddenly incapable of making rash and foolish decisions, especially considering the vulnerability of his youth. I think this makes for good opportunities for the writers to tell stories with "easy to see" problems for adults, but most likely not so easy for little kids at their age to immediately figure out, which makes for a simple yet perfect message for them to learn. Hell, I bet even adults can learn some of this stuff considering we're all still human and we're all susceptible to making mistakes. I can see the whole "focusing too much on what can go wrong rather than right" message being applicable to a lot of people who may tend to stress over what can go awry too much to the point were they're not thinking rationally anymore, which causes them to miss the "obvious" solution to the whole problem. The problems you may have the answer to, others might not find it so easily and that's reality. Going back to the fact that Spike is still a kid is why I think his episodes get WAY too much flak for little to no reason other than "lul anuthr spike episud n is gun be bad" which makes it seem like people are not even trying to think independently for themselves and are just following a bandwagon of hate. I'm not even saying you can't dislike a Spike episode because you can and I myself have agreed with a couple of criticisms from certain Spike episodes, but the hate and disdain for Spike and himself is so off the fucking chain that I have to question whether these people are even watching the same show I am. Spike is going to make A LOT of mistakes compared to the mane 6 because he's still a kid for christ sake.... which most of those mistakes are going to come across as silly or idiotic, but guess what? It makes sense why he's going to have a harder time deducing how to solve a problem or how to have control over a situation because of the surplus of pressure he endures due to his complete inexperience. I'm not saying he's immune to criticism, but it sure as hell strikes me as short-sided when an over-abundance of people are constantly and constantly giving Spike episodes crap when I genuinely think his struggles, for the most part, are very understandable and believable. But forget being open-minded and impartial, let's jump on the Spike sucks train and never think as individuals as we dick-ride the "popular" opinion. Don't even get me started on the whole Spike getting abused crap. This fandom is a huge fucking killjoy sometimes.

Exactly. It really disappoints me too when other reactors I watch and find enjoyable think that Spike episodes tend to suck or are not that good. Applegeek, unfortunately, is one of them. He seems like a great guy, but he tends to be hard on Spike at times.
I love Spike, he's a great character, heck one of my favorite characters in the series, some of his episodes; or at least his earlier episodes were definitely troublesome. But, as you said he's a kid. He's going to make more mistakes then most of the characters, and he's going to learn from them. However upon saying that I have been quite happy ever since Gauntlet of Fire with the way the writers have written Spike. He is growing up, and the Spike abuse has lessened a lot imo compared to how it was before.
With all due respect there is no Spike abuse. Just because Spike plays a part in some slapstick humor here and there doesn't mean the fucking writers or pretty much everything else is out to get him like a wild conspiracy theory. With that logic you can easily argue how some of the mane 6 are being "abused" by the show just because they took part in harmless CARTOON violence. God forbid a cartoon tries to be wacky and over-the-top. We've seen Dash get herself into several slapstick situation by crashing into stuff during whatever circumstance. Remember Hurricane Fluttershy when she crashed into that tree? Remember when Granny Smith literally slapped her with her bag? Remember when Dash, once again, crashed straight at a cliff that caused a rock avalanche which had her wing pinned underneath from May The Best Pet Win? Why is no one talking foul about those instances? Oh that's right, it's because we hold Spike to a ridiculous standard compared to the others. That and people take this show way too fucking seriously. His earlier episodes weren't even troublesome because Spike's issues and motivations made sense. I'm not knocking your opinion on this matter so don't assume such a thing, but I can't help but really disagree on the silly notion that Spike's episodes were mediocre with the exception of one or two out there.

Times They Are a Changeling kinda let me down. The concept was great, but I wasn't feeling the pacing and I'm part of the minority who dislikes the song. Even for MLP, it felt way too cheesy and it makes me cringe. The lyrics felt a little bit lazy too.
WHO ARE YOU?! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO LUFFY?! All joking aside, I feel like I'm the only one who's criticized the actual writer behind the episode for making the same mistake twice since entering the show. First it was Dash taking almost all the blame regarding the conflict between her and her parents and then there's this where Spike is essentially used and abused as a stepping stone for Thorax's and Ember's(admittedly stellar) characterization and development. Josh Hamilton seems to have this weird thing with wrongfully making someone else the fall guy for another's benefit. Its not a good way to write and develop characters at the expense of another. The one thing that irritates me more is how good he is at it since these "fall guys" are technically still in character for the most part as they behave accordingly to the situation they're put in. The issue is that he writes them in a way to where they convince themselves of an imaginary problem; Dash feeling she was entirely at fault for her behavior which most definitely wasn't the case and Spike convincing himself that nothing but disaster could come of his two friends meeting when he could've easily have been convinced otherwise by two certain purple horses had they actually tried a little harder to do so. What's worse is that the writer was able to hide this problem for this particular episode by using Spike to draw out the conflict since he's a child and his fears, no matter how unfounded the less understanding critics of this episode say they are, are very real and even relatable to a good extent. Meanwhile there was hardly any excuse for Dash to be the one to blame fully for her problem and yet its easy to see that it worked for Spike to be "thrown under the bus" since most of everyone easily went after Spike and brought the episode down by criticizing and hating a *child's* very rational fear. I know it sounds like I'm painting the guy as malicious and I truly don't mean to say that he's doing this on purpose but his writing style is both great and bad for what he does with scenarios(at least regarding mlp but he most likely does the same for other show's he's written for). And yes, I am partially speaking off bias as I both like and understand Spike but I do believe I have a basis for these claims. For example, while many focused on how "bad" Spike was, did anyone else notice how the Princess of Friendship simply allowed Spike's fears to get the best of him when she should've easily quelled them at least more than what the episode allowed. But its easy to see why she didn't because without her interference, the conflict. Was able to drag out much longer than it should have all because instead of doing the reasonable thing of consoling a kid's genuine worries regarding his friends, Twi and Star decide to go along with his fears instead. I kniwbit soujds like I'm shifting blame but it is a qualm I have with how the whole scene played out. The result is that once again, people wrongfully hate on Spike for apparently being dumb, cringeworthy etc etc. I could forgive his first episode since the instance was minor and right at the end but this was the starting premise of Triple Threat. Its irritating that people have so easily taken to blaming Spike entirely for his actions as if there was no reason for them and that he was just being stupid "as usual". In the end the episode basially gave more fuel to Spike haters while bringing up two other fan favotite characters. It was a trade off that shouldn't have happened and yet it did. But hey, its Spike so who cares? His episodes always suck, right? -_- Sorry for ranting but after seeing the episode a few times and expresssing my growing thoughts on it several times over, I truly blame Hamilton for the upset. Spike is a kid and has much to learn so I understand why he was afraid and irrational. However, using that child mentality to create conflict without at least some semblance of an outside source offering more reason than what was given to quell those fears and instead used them to create conflict to build up others while also bringing down the main character of the story is a no go for me. I don't hate the episode in the slightest but the way Hamilton writes, building up characters at the cost of another, is, in my honest opinion, a bad way to write. Letting one fall through the cracks so others can stand tall is just.....just bad. Again, sorry for the rant but when the episode came out, the fans against Spike were genuinely intolerable
Great analysis, and I agree that it's a poor technique. That very well might be the source of my discomfort towards this episode at times. Looks like I was correct when I mentioned the fact that I was surprised Twilight was going along with Spike's fears instead of telling him to just give things a shot.
Luffyiscool I was actually really glad when you did since you're one of the few people who picked that out. It took me a second watch to actually pick that up as I was trying to understand it all better since a first watch simply let me know what many fans' knee jerk reactions would be towards Spike's behavior. It was just unfortunate at how disappointing yet expected it ended up being. I couldn't even fault Spike for his worries since objectively, and of course on a personal level, they're very much real and rational. Oddly enough, this is the first time I've truly ever had a distaste for a specific writer of the show and its also the first time I hold that writer fully accountable for their writing style versus simply judging the characters and their actions since he's already done the same thing twice rather than learn from i the firt time. Though I guess, that's only natural. Parental Glidenace just seemed like it received too much praise for its own good and was revered as a good to great episode with only a few truly criticizing its major flaw. I guess if this were the case, I can let that off with a slight pass since constructive criticism was drowned out by blind praise but I won't say for certain that this is the case for obvious reasons. But even with all that in mind, I can easily admit that Hamilton does some great characterization and interaction but the price for all that, at least to me, is way too steep. I personally count this as his second strike on the show as most other writers that come to mind at least learn to improve after their first episode. I really hope he doesn't choose to strike out with a third or else....well, or else nothing really. It would simply be the first time where I'm genuinely disappointed that the show allowed someone like him to continue repeating his mistakes. He can be a great writer for the show but I would hope that his future episodes don't involve tearing down other characters to get there. In the end, Triple Threat is only half good in my eyes and I don't want that to be the case but it is what it is. I like Spike and I was fine with him the whole episode but its how things palyed out and why they played out that way that I can't approve of. Perhaps I'm being too unfair or too unreasonable or or even too bias about the whole thing but no matter how I view it, I can only seem to put most of the fault on Hamilton and not really any of the characters involved with the episode. On the plus side, from what you were able to enjoy from the episode(which is admittedly a fair amount) helps lead in to the next episode which I know you'll enjoy fully. Sorry for the long winded comment but I couldn't help myself. I was waiting for your reaction to this episode and it did not disappoint
I remember identifying that problem with Parental Glideance too. I was puzzled during my reaction as to why Dash was in the wrong. Despite the way she yelled, I felt like her anger was completely justified and she didn't deserve to be shamed by Scootaloo for it. "I wanted to learn more about you, but I don't like what I found out" What, Scootaloo? That she can get mad about something that's a pain in her ass???

Not to mention that right after that, the fans where thrown a bone about Scootaloo's parent situation to basically justify her accusation against Dash and even convince her that she was to blame entirely for her behavior. Its that sort of writing that's just underhanded to me, even if the writer doesn't intend for it to be that way. Scootaloo is a kid so I can understand why she felt that way but using that instance make Dash into the bad guy was just wrong. I hope Hamilton gets it together by his third episode and I hope people actually identify the real problem with his writing instead of praising or hating the wrong things or else we can expect this stuff to happen more often with him and that's the last thing I want. Gotta say though, its quite the relief seeing a reactor actually able to pick apart the actual problem instead of being fooled into blaming someone else like the episode wrongfully intends the audience to do
Wow, Luffy, you look so different without your hat! One thing I don't like about Spike Episodes is that they treat him like a klutz, or a joke, when he's not. I know the show is for girls, but I wish we could have episodes where they don't degrade Spike's character for the sake of funny, if you can even call it that...
To be fair, Spike has been treated a bit more respectfully from season 6 onwards. There's been less abuse, more cool moments, more of the sarcasm and one liners, more times of being the voice of reason, etc. Even here, they went easy on him. Despite his big mistake, he somehow kept playing things off until a misunderstanding caused a fight to happen between the two guests.

The thing that bothers me most about the episode isn't spike hes still young and learning the thing that bothers me about this episode is Starlight and Twilight why because they were just as much at fault as spike was and I'm mostly annoyed with Twilight because when she freaks out and goes to the extreme like this Spike tries his hardest to make sure she keeps a level head but all she did in this episode was fuel is anxiety and enable him by helping him keep them separate she's the princess of friendship she should know better and it would annoy me so very much if they didn't just completely act like they didn't do anything wrong and it was all Spikes fault

I'm glad that you feel that way! Unfortunately one of the companies that owns Adventure Time took down most of my reactions to it in rapid succession and gave me two strikes. It was such a huge blow, and I cleverly avoided their tactic to give me three strikes by removing the rest of the videos myself before they could hit them. They thought they were being slick, but I beat them to their punch. That experience understandably put me off coming back to the show so quickly, but in the future I DO plan to return. Though it may be when I've got less on my plate.
I suspected that was what happened (after wanting to see your reactions that I've haven't seen for a long time, it was really sad to find out that the first time) But good choice and counter to that situation, It would've been much worse to find your channel wiped out, instead of just one series (even if was my favorite series) you are one of the best reactors there is, I just wish you had more series (i guess you don't have as much time as others have) I was just curious of all those other comments (on all the boys starting reacting to AT) of you planning to do it in the f u t u r e, but that was like 3 months ago, so I was curious to know if that f u t u r e was soon or years and years to come?
This is a random place to say this, but Luffy you should try checking out CharFox. Right now he's done only RWBY reactions and has a couple gameplay videos. The best part about his videos isn't his reactions per se (even though he has some great ones), it's his analysis and breakdown of the show that is impressive. He lives in Puerto Rico, and if you've seen the news you know that Puerto Rico isn't doing so well, so his videos have been halted for a while. Even before then, though, his uploads were pretty rare and had long spans of time between them. He stopped just before Volume 3 Chapter 9...which REALLY sucks to have such a long hiatus on. Just thought a decently known reactor like yourself checking him out could draw more attention towards it. Ever thought of doing reactor shout-outs?
Pb didn't freak out about Spike he hates Starlight, not Spike to be fair he doesn't hate Starlight he just doesn't like that she's taking Twilights place.

Regarding your question about why most changelings don't become bigger things when fighting, it seems likely that most of them simply can't (and those that can can only hold the transformation for a limited time). A future episode indicates as much at least.
Ember was trying to be friendly by putting food on the wall, the way she thought Spike and friends put her favorite food on the castle walls.

I really enjoyed this episode for similar reasons to you, though both Ember and Thorax made the episode for me!
I guess the reason the changelings didn't bother using big creatures is a testament to how Queen Chrysalis failed as a leader. She didn't teach her changelings to think for themselves, so they just took over Canterlot as they were. Also, Thorax has a reason to change into a giant bear: he's defending a friend. Back then, the changelings had no connections or friendships, so their motive to fight wasn't nearly as strong.
great choice for intro, love that song. Also I was fine with it calling Spike, mainly because by now I'm over the fact that it calls others besides the mane six after my meltdown. In fact I think that I would have been ok with it calling Spike even if he was the first one called. I mean he does have a throne too. Of course this is hindsight speaking, so can't tell for sure how I would have reacted if it had happened that way. Guess we'll never really know. but yeah, I'm fine with it.

Spike contradicts himself when he thinks Ember won't like Thorax because he thinks hes to wimpy for Ember to like him yet he thinks Thorax will go to war with Ember because apparently he's that tough, also while both Ember and Thorax love Spike clearly Thorax loves him more because he gets in a fight he would surly loose at the cost of his life just because Spike got yelled at.
I recommend a small desk fan pointed at your face or a larger fan off screen pointed at your head.
Also side note I never understood why so many people were upset about Spike getting call by the map , actually I was a little upset when Starlight got called by the map before him , because of the fact that Spike actually at the chair which means he has a connection to it more of a connection than Starlight dose in my opinion ( I do love Starlight but I just hate that it seems like the writers gave more respect to her character then spikes )

This was a weird episode just because I didn't know how to feel about it. I did enjoy it, but I just felt kind of weird about it. However the ending made up for it big time, it was a great ending. And I do like that Spike is becoming more and more mature, although I'm still surprised that Spike was called by the map; that really surprised me. (Still hoping for the CMC's to get called). Also I loved that Ember made the joke about Starlight and Twilight seeming similar, I thought it was hilarious. And Starlight was great in this episode, I loved her little comments that she did; so funny. Spike gets better and better with each episode/lesson he learns. Great reaction and can't wait for more! XD.

I dunno if Spike was really being as stupid as people seem to think. I can totally see where his fears were coming from, and even Twilight and Starlight seemed a bit worried about the situation. Honestly, if it was any other Changeling and Dragon, it probably really would've led to some serious trouble. In fact, it might even have with Thorax and Ember, if Spike DIDN'T mess things up first and cause them to get mad at him. I can easily see an episode where Spike would've taken them both into account but those two didn't get along at all.
Also, keep the hat off if you want. xD I doubt anyone REALLY cares, and if they do... their problem. :P

I am split on this episode. Spike comes off as a little dumb. Ember and Thorax have a great dynamic. Ember is great at point things out.
People seem to forget that Spike, at the end of the day, IS A KID. It's only rational that Spike's going to go through a lot of "amateur" mistakes due to that fact alone. Yes he can be very smart and level-headed, but that DOESN'T mean he's suddenly incapable of making rash and foolish decisions, especially considering the vulnerability of his youth. I think this makes for good opportunities for the writers to tell stories with "easy to see" problems for adults, but most likely not so easy for little kids at their age to immediately figure out, which makes for a simple yet perfect message for them to learn. Hell, I bet even adults can learn some of this stuff considering we're all still human and we're all susceptible to making mistakes. I can see the whole "focusing too much on what can go wrong rather than right" message being applicable to a lot of people who may tend to stress over what can go awry too much to the point were they're not thinking rationally anymore, which causes them to miss the "obvious" solution to the whole problem. The problems you may have the answer to, others might not find it so easily and that's reality.
Going back to the fact that Spike is still a kid is why I think his episodes get WAY too much flak for little to no reason other than "lul anuthr spike episud n is gun be bad" which makes it seem like people are not even trying to think independently for themselves and are just following a bandwagon of hate. I'm not even saying you can't dislike a Spike episode because you can and I myself have agreed with a couple of criticisms from certain Spike episodes, but the hate and disdain for Spike and himself is so off the fucking chain that I have to question whether these people are even watching the same show I am. Spike is going to make A LOT of mistakes compared to the mane 6 because he's still a kid for christ sake.... which most of those mistakes are going to come across as silly or idiotic, but guess what? It makes sense why he's going to have a harder time deducing how to solve a problem or how to have control over a situation because of the surplus of pressure he endures due to his complete inexperience. I'm not saying he's immune to criticism, but it sure as hell strikes me as short-sided when an over-abundance of people are constantly and constantly giving Spike episodes crap when I genuinely think his struggles, for the most part, are very understandable and believable. But forget being open-minded and impartial, let's jump on the Spike sucks train and never think as individuals as we dick-ride the "popular" opinion.
Don't even get me started on the whole Spike getting abused crap. This fandom is a huge fucking killjoy sometimes.

Exactly. It really disappoints me too when other reactors I watch and find enjoyable think that Spike episodes tend to suck or are not that good. Applegeek, unfortunately, is one of them. He seems like a great guy, but he tends to be hard on Spike at times.
I love Spike, he's a great character, heck one of my favorite characters in the series, some of his episodes; or at least his earlier episodes were definitely troublesome. But, as you said he's a kid. He's going to make more mistakes then most of the characters, and he's going to learn from them. However upon saying that I have been quite happy ever since Gauntlet of Fire with the way the writers have written Spike. He is growing up, and the Spike abuse has lessened a lot imo compared to how it was before.
With all due respect there is no Spike abuse. Just because Spike plays a part in some slapstick humor here and there doesn't mean the fucking writers or pretty much everything else is out to get him like a wild conspiracy theory. With that logic you can easily argue how some of the mane 6 are being "abused" by the show just because they took part in harmless CARTOON violence. God forbid a cartoon tries to be wacky and over-the-top. We've seen Dash get herself into several slapstick situation by crashing into stuff during whatever circumstance. Remember Hurricane Fluttershy when she crashed into that tree? Remember when Granny Smith literally slapped her with her bag? Remember when Dash, once again, crashed straight at a cliff that caused a rock avalanche which had her wing pinned underneath from May The Best Pet Win? Why is no one talking foul about those instances? Oh that's right, it's because we hold Spike to a ridiculous standard compared to the others. That and people take this show way too fucking seriously.
His earlier episodes weren't even troublesome because Spike's issues and motivations made sense. I'm not knocking your opinion on this matter so don't assume such a thing, but I can't help but really disagree on the silly notion that Spike's episodes were mediocre with the exception of one or two out there.

This is my third favorite as well. Mine are: Gauntlet of Fire. Times They Are a Changeling and now this one.

Times They Are a Changeling kinda let me down.
The concept was great, but I wasn't feeling the pacing and I'm part of the minority who dislikes the song. Even for MLP, it felt way too cheesy and it makes me cringe. The lyrics felt a little bit lazy too.

All joking aside, I feel like I'm the only one who's criticized the actual writer behind the episode for making the same mistake twice since entering the show. First it was Dash taking almost all the blame regarding the conflict between her and her parents and then there's this where Spike is essentially used and abused as a stepping stone for Thorax's and Ember's(admittedly stellar) characterization and development.
Josh Hamilton seems to have this weird thing with wrongfully making someone else the fall guy for another's benefit. Its not a good way to write and develop characters at the expense of another. The one thing that irritates me more is how good he is at it since these "fall guys" are technically still in character for the most part as they behave accordingly to the situation they're put in. The issue is that he writes them in a way to where they convince themselves of an imaginary problem; Dash feeling she was entirely at fault for her behavior which most definitely wasn't the case and Spike convincing himself that nothing but disaster could come of his two friends meeting when he could've easily have been convinced otherwise by two certain purple horses had they actually tried a little harder to do so. What's worse is that the writer was able to hide this problem for this particular episode by using Spike to draw out the conflict since he's a child and his fears, no matter how unfounded the less understanding critics of this episode say they are, are very real and even relatable to a good extent. Meanwhile there was hardly any excuse for Dash to be the one to blame fully for her problem and yet its easy to see that it worked for Spike to be "thrown under the bus" since most of everyone easily went after Spike and brought the episode down by criticizing and hating a *child's* very rational fear.
I know it sounds like I'm painting the guy as malicious and I truly don't mean to say that he's doing this on purpose but his writing style is both great and bad for what he does with scenarios(at least regarding mlp but he most likely does the same for other show's he's written for). And yes, I am partially speaking off bias as I both like and understand Spike but I do believe I have a basis for these claims. For example, while many focused on how "bad" Spike was, did anyone else notice how the Princess of Friendship simply allowed Spike's fears to get the best of him when she should've easily quelled them at least more than what the episode allowed. But its easy to see why she didn't because without her interference, the conflict. Was able to drag out much longer than it should have all because instead of doing the reasonable thing of consoling a kid's genuine worries regarding his friends, Twi and Star decide to go along with his fears instead. I kniwbit soujds like I'm shifting blame but it is a qualm I have with how the whole scene played out. The result is that once again, people wrongfully hate on Spike for apparently being dumb, cringeworthy etc etc. I could forgive his first episode since the instance was minor and right at the end but this was the starting premise of Triple Threat. Its irritating that people have so easily taken to blaming Spike entirely for his actions as if there was no reason for them and that he was just being stupid "as usual". In the end the episode basially gave more fuel to Spike haters while bringing up two other fan favotite characters. It was a trade off that shouldn't have happened and yet it did. But hey, its Spike so who cares? His episodes always suck, right? -_-
Sorry for ranting but after seeing the episode a few times and expresssing my growing thoughts on it several times over, I truly blame Hamilton for the upset. Spike is a kid and has much to learn so I understand why he was afraid and irrational. However, using that child mentality to create conflict without at least some semblance of an outside source offering more reason than what was given to quell those fears and instead used them to create conflict to build up others while also bringing down the main character of the story is a no go for me. I don't hate the episode in the slightest but the way Hamilton writes, building up characters at the cost of another, is, in my honest opinion, a bad way to write. Letting one fall through the cracks so others can stand tall is just.....just bad. Again, sorry for the rant but when the episode came out, the fans against Spike were genuinely intolerable

That very well might be the source of my discomfort towards this episode at times.
Looks like I was correct when I mentioned the fact that I was surprised Twilight was going along with Spike's fears instead of telling him to just give things a shot.
Luffyiscool I was actually really glad when you did since you're one of the few people who picked that out. It took me a second watch to actually pick that up as I was trying to understand it all better since a first watch simply let me know what many fans' knee jerk reactions would be towards Spike's behavior. It was just unfortunate at how disappointing yet expected it ended up being. I couldn't even fault Spike for his worries since objectively, and of course on a personal level, they're very much real and rational.
Oddly enough, this is the first time I've truly ever had a distaste for a specific writer of the show and its also the first time I hold that writer fully accountable for their writing style versus simply judging the characters and their actions since he's already done the same thing twice rather than learn from i the firt time. Though I guess, that's only natural. Parental Glidenace just seemed like it received too much praise for its own good and was revered as a good to great episode with only a few truly criticizing its major flaw. I guess if this were the case, I can let that off with a slight pass since constructive criticism was drowned out by blind praise but I won't say for certain that this is the case for obvious reasons.
But even with all that in mind, I can easily admit that Hamilton does some great characterization and interaction but the price for all that, at least to me, is way too steep. I personally count this as his second strike on the show as most other writers that come to mind at least learn to improve after their first episode. I really hope he doesn't choose to strike out with a third or else....well, or else nothing really. It would simply be the first time where I'm genuinely disappointed that the show allowed someone like him to continue repeating his mistakes. He can be a great writer for the show but I would hope that his future episodes don't involve tearing down other characters to get there. In the end, Triple Threat is only half good in my eyes and I don't want that to be the case but it is what it is. I like Spike and I was fine with him the whole episode but its how things palyed out and why they played out that way that I can't approve of. Perhaps I'm being too unfair or too unreasonable or or even too bias about the whole thing but no matter how I view it, I can only seem to put most of the fault on Hamilton and not really any of the characters involved with the episode.
On the plus side, from what you were able to enjoy from the episode(which is admittedly a fair amount) helps lead in to the next episode which I know you'll enjoy fully. Sorry for the long winded comment but I couldn't help myself. I was waiting for your reaction to this episode and it did not disappoint

I was puzzled during my reaction as to why Dash was in the wrong.
Despite the way she yelled, I felt like her anger was completely justified and she didn't deserve to be shamed by Scootaloo for it.

Not to mention that right after that, the fans where thrown a bone about Scootaloo's parent situation to basically justify her accusation against Dash and even convince her that she was to blame entirely for her behavior. Its that sort of writing that's just underhanded to me, even if the writer doesn't intend for it to be that way. Scootaloo is a kid so I can understand why she felt that way but using that instance make Dash into the bad guy was just wrong. I hope Hamilton gets it together by his third episode and I hope people actually identify the real problem with his writing instead of praising or hating the wrong things or else we can expect this stuff to happen more often with him and that's the last thing I want. Gotta say though, its quite the relief seeing a reactor actually able to pick apart the actual problem instead of being fooled into blaming someone else like the episode wrongfully intends the audience to do

Wow, Luffy, you look so different without your hat! One thing I don't like about Spike Episodes is that they treat him like a klutz, or a joke, when he's not. I know the show is for girls, but I wish we could have episodes where they don't degrade Spike's character for the sake of funny, if you can even call it that...
To be fair, Spike has been treated a bit more respectfully from season 6 onwards.
There's been less abuse, more cool moments, more of the sarcasm and one liners, more times of being the voice of reason, etc.
Even here, they went easy on him.
Despite his big mistake, he somehow kept playing things off until a misunderstanding caused a fight to happen between the two guests.

The thing that bothers me most about the episode isn't spike hes still young and learning the thing that bothers me about this episode is Starlight and Twilight why because they were just as much at fault as spike was and I'm mostly annoyed with Twilight because when she freaks out and goes to the extreme like this Spike tries his hardest to make sure she keeps a level head but all she did in this episode was fuel is anxiety and enable him by helping him keep them separate she's the princess of friendship she should know better and it would annoy me so very much if they didn't just completely act like they didn't do anything wrong and it was all Spikes fault

Unfortunately one of the companies that owns Adventure Time took down most of my reactions to it in rapid succession and gave me two strikes.
It was such a huge blow, and I cleverly avoided their tactic to give me three strikes by removing the rest of the videos myself before they could hit them. They thought they were being slick, but I beat them to their punch.
That experience understandably put me off coming back to the show so quickly,
but in the future I DO plan to return. Though it may be when I've got less on my plate.
I suspected that was what happened (after wanting to see your reactions that I've haven't seen for a long time, it was really sad to find out that the first time)
But good choice and counter to that situation, It would've been much worse to find your channel wiped out, instead of just one series (even if was my favorite series) you are one of the best reactors there is, I just wish you had more series (i guess you don't have as much time as others have)

This is a random place to say this, but Luffy you should try checking out CharFox. Right now he's done only RWBY reactions and has a couple gameplay videos. The best part about his videos isn't his reactions per se (even though he has some great ones), it's his analysis and breakdown of the show that is impressive. He lives in Puerto Rico, and if you've seen the news you know that Puerto Rico isn't doing so well, so his videos have been halted for a while. Even before then, though, his uploads were pretty rare and had long spans of time between them. He stopped just before Volume 3 Chapter 9...which REALLY sucks to have such a long hiatus on.
Just thought a decently known reactor like yourself checking him out could draw more attention towards it. Ever thought of doing reactor shout-outs?

I know spike interrupted what was going to be epic fight between Ember and Thorax, but I was interested to see who would win. Basically who win a fight Ember or Thorax? Luffy do you have any thoughts because I'm on the fence on this one.

Yeah I agree. I was kinda leaning towards Thorax at first because well since he can change into anything. I thought he would change into like a giant monster or something and just eat Ember, but considering Thorax being peaceful creature and having no fighting experience at all. Yeah I am going to have to give to Ember.
