    Great details in this video. The SE SR is the real bargain of the range and you can charge that LFP battery to 100% every day and have the maximum possible range. You can’t really complain about missing kilt when it is so much EV for the money compared to the competition. Not sure the auto dimming mirror is a big deal, if you are getting dazzled, you just flick the lever
    I went Trophy because I wanted the heated seats and 360 camera, not sure it was worth £5k, but they were must haves for me

    • @siasek
      @siasek  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It is definitely amazing for the price. Of course even I could live without the auto dimming mirror, I just have a flair for the dramatic sometimes. 🤭 My ideal would be the Trophy with an LFP battery.

      @@siasek they sell that combination in Thailand. Bjorn Nyland did a range test in one. The UK model range is a bit odd, why not offer a light interior, even as a cost option? 🤷‍♂️

    Good video. I had the MG5 exclusive for two years before changing to the MG4 SE. A lot of the features on the MG5 are not on the MG4 SE. Going through them. 1) the reversing camera on the MG5 is fine in good weather, worse than useless in periods of heavy rain, when it mists up. I’m not missing it at all. 2) folding mirrors - not bothered 3) rear light band - can’t see when driving, so I’m not bothered. 4) heated seats - my wife hated those so it isn’t something I’m bothered about. 5) auto dimming rear mirror - I honestly hadn’t noticed that the MG4 SE didn’t have one. So, it isn’t an issue for me. 5) no rear speakers in MG4 SE is probably an issue but the music through Spotify is pretty good. Rear speakers installation isn’t a problem. 6) A false floor in the rear boot would be great. I can’t understand why it’s left out. The cost would be minimal. Of more concern to me is the appalling Lane Keep Assist on the MG4. I didn’t have MG Pilot on the MG5 and wish I still didn’t. I switch LKA to “Alert” and it’s fine. Leave it on LKA it’s a dangerous nightmare. I just wish it could be turned off and stay turned off but it can’t because of Euro NCAP. That is a joke.
    I just don’t see the point in paying thousands of £ more for a Trophy model. The SE has enough range for me. If buyers want a more premium model than the MG4 SE, then buy a Kia or a Cupra. The SE is a really good car and I’m very happy with it apart from the LKA which is terrible. 😊

    • @siasek
      @siasek  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've heard many horror stories about the LKA! I recently did a video where I covered common owner complaints and LKA definitely tops the list and received the most responses from viewers in the comments. One of my viewers dubbed it Lane Kill Assist, which is hilarious and awful. 😅 I do think it's a travesty that the NACP requires it to be turned on for safety and yet it makes the ride much more dangerous. You'd think they could come up with a better test to see what they're actually mandating. 🙄
      I agree with you on the rest and also think that most of these missing features are not such a big deal - the car is definitely awesome even without them. I have gottend quite used to having a rear camera so I think I'd miss that, plus the rear speakers and dual level boot floor for sure (also don't understand why it was left out when it seems like a minor cost). Still, I do think the SE is a great choice. I'd ideally love to get a Trophy but with an LFP battery to keep the cost down a little. Maybe one day MG will make also make this an option.🤞

    Thanks for taking the time to highlight all the differences. I think the extra cost of the Trophy is going to sway me towards the SE. I feel I'm a confident driver/parker, so I don't need the gadgets that assist driving. After that, all the other gadgets are 'nice to haves'.

      I agree that none of them are necessarily "needed", but I think after having them, I've gotten a bit spoiled and would definitely miss some of them. Good breakdown of all the extras offered on the Trophy. The only thing I wish was an optional extra for the SE LR is the 360 degree parking camera. Saying that, I’m becoming proficient at reverse parking with the sensors, rear view mirror, wing mirrors and looking round the way I used to a long time ago. 😅

      @siasek  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      😄 Taking it back to the old school! There's something to be said for that, but I must admit I've gotten VERY used to having my camera and have maybe grown a bit lazy... 😂 Plus I feel way more confident squeezing into tight parking spots, which is a must sometimes if I want to park near my flat

    • @CastleKnight7

      @@siasekI completely understand. I had a reversing camera in my last car, but what I usually do now in the MG4 is tilt the wing mirrors down so that I can see the parking space lines and the kerb(s). The reverse parking sensors are pretty good and they give a visual and auditory warning. Practice in an empty car park for a bit first and you’ll be fine. I’m really enjoying having an SE Long Range and look forward to driving it all the time. 😊

    • @rb8589
      @rb8589 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would be happy to pay the extra for the extra tech, & for me a reversing camera is a must. But I really dislike the trophy rear spoiler, not just for it’s looks. It creates extra drag which reduces the range considerably without any aerodynamic benefit at the speeds the Mg4 is capable of. I think an electric car should be all about efficiency & this, to me, is an unnecessary gimmick. It gives the car a “boy racer” image which I wouldn’t want at my age (70).
      Unfortunately, I still wouldn’t buy one because I feel that a rear wash/wipe is essential given the weather in the UK.

  • @sowhodecidedthat3924
    @sowhodecidedthat3924 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Really great differences you pointed out. I didn't know about the 4 vs 6 speakers. I agree with leather vs cloth. The one thing I'd say is that electric folding wing mirrors were designed for places like Europe where space is at a premium. They can be more important the larger the car when finding parking at a parking lot. It's the difference between being able to squeeze through when they're folded. You don't want people to manually fold your mirrors and damage the car. Not essential, but a feature a lot of people look out for the larger the car.

    • @siasek
      @siasek  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Maybe, though I think if I have to fold the mirrors to park than I'd have a hard time getting out of the car without scratching it up.. .though maybe it could be handy to use on one side at a time. 😊

    Nice video! I have an SE. I am very happy with the LFP battery. My testdrive was with the luxury version, the 6 speakers sounded different, but did not convince me.
    I miss:
    1. there is no driving wind in the car, so you have to push a button to get fresh air and get the windows clean, and in the lowest position it already blows you of your seat
    2. heated driver seat
    3. good speakers
    4. light inside in the backseat
    5. folding mirrors
    6. parking camera

    8. heatpump and battery preconditioning

    great and informative, i must say i miss some of those for SE but then again for Trophy in Croatia is 39k euro and tesla3 is 45, what are we talking here MG-?!?!?! i think it is "OK" option for 33k euro in SE and you install your own camer but its still "unknown brand" around here so I am not sure about that price even with subsidies

      I am curious to see if MG will become competitive in new markets like this. Of course, Tesla has infinitely greater brand recognition and even I considered it briefly when the price for the Model 3 lowered, but at the end of the day I feel like Tesla is just not the best option for people who are looking for a "regular" car. To me the MG becomes more interesting for people who want a hatchback and/or more hands-on controls

    I ordered the SE or excite here in Ireland in Short range because of two things, the 7thou € difference is too much to go to the trophy or luxury version. They were suppose to be one of the cheapest EV so if you choose the Trophy version unless you like the look of the MG4 then go for it but if not I would sacfrice and save for a better looking EV with almost same as the MG4 luxury

    Agree about blind spot monitoring. I've found that to be far and away the best safety "gimmick" and has stopped me pulling out despite having looked in both mirrors and over my shoulder, which is getting more painful with age. Why they took it out of the latest top of the range Renault Captur I'll never know - told me they couldn't get the chips!

    I am considering an e- C4 and MG4, what things made you pick the e-c4 over the MG?

    • @siasek
      @siasek  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, so this will be long, but if you’re considering the e-C4, please read my whole response.
      I chose the e-C4 over the MG4 mainly due to price. That being said, I view my e-C4 as a transition car. I have some other financial goals at this point and will be getting a different (better) car, when it is financially savvy for me to do so.
      As far as MG4, I would ideally want the Trophy version with an LFP battery, which is currently unavailable in Europe. Also, it’s only possible to buy a new MG4 right now, so that of course plays a role in price. I was able to find a used Citroen e-C4 for a price that was 300 thousand Czech crowns cheaper than a new MG4 (equivalent to approximately 11,076 Euros or 9,445 British pounds).
      However, I have learned a lot of things about the e-C4 since getting it that were not mentioned in any reviews I went through prior to purchase. The infotainment is bad, lots of underdeveloped stuff, Android auto doesn't start automatically, the 10" screen has unnecessary temperature panels on the sides, so realistically only about 7" is usable - so everything is small - Android auto + navigation, camera images, etc. Incredibly untapped potential. The car control app doesn’t work more often than it does - constant problems connecting to the car or to the Stellantis server, rarely really manage to start the air conditioning, incredibly amateur of Citroen that they haven't managed to fix it in 2 years (Google Play rating only 3.1*). When connected to the car and the HV battery is charged, the car lights up and then goes off again.. that speaks volumes about how “well” the car is tuned. The onboard computer is quite useless, it doesn’t show consumption or miles driven since the last charge.. nothing. Just two gauges that have to be manually zeroed to get the consumption for the journey. Uncomfortable "premium" seats in the Shine (not with massage, we don't have that). Weird position behind the wheel, due to the large tilt of the steering wheel - I haven't found a truly comfortable position yet. The car is narrow inside, there's practically no way to fit your hand comfortably between the pillar and the seat to adjust the seat tilt. The double trunk floor doesn't stay in the top position, very annoying when you want to stow something in there. You can't see buttons, like the steering wheel heater or glass heater, the buttons are hidden under the steering wheel, so you can't see them at all while driving. Same with the Start button - it's annoying. Otherwise, the ride is comfortable, HDA type assists and adaptive cruise control work perfectly (I guess this was designed by someone different than the rest of the car). The design, especially on the outside is amazing, but the rest of the car is really unfinished. Oh, and the steering - great chassis but absolutely tragic steering with zero feedback from the wheels, it's really uncomfortable to drive into corners quickly, you have no idea how much or how little it will turn. I didn't see any of this in other reviews, so it was quite a shock after actually driving the e-C4 for a bit. I filmed a review about it myself, but unfortunately had sound issues and am now away for a while, so didn’t have time to refilm. But yea, if you’re in the position to do so, I’d probably recommend going with the MG4.

I made a video about my search, if you want to check it out: th-cam.com/video/ywwwYW_NYqE/w-d-xo.html. I address Tesla Model 3 at 17:10. Thanks for watching and your suggestion!

      @@siasek Ah....OK I watched that video. Excellent I am impressed with your candor. I can see your concerns. Every one of the ones you mentioned (other than being low) have recently been addressed by Tesla in Over The Air software upgrades. The phantom breaking occurs very rarely now but this only happens when you have the car on automatic driving assist where it is driving, not you. BTW... I think you will find most other cars when on automatic driving assist also have a similar issue.
      I think the MG4 is a great car though but I am sad you didn't actually test drive the Tesla yourself. I think you might have found it to be like the Polestar but even more responsive and quicker.
      Also as to Tesla it comes with a killer sound system. Finally most people also don't mention, or don't know, that most car functions can be controlled or set via voice command using the same, one, button on the steering wheel.
      Push this one scroll button in and say something like "set following distance to five car lengths" to change the cruise control.....or "increase stereo volume" to have it go up a notch in sound.... or "set wiper speed to medium"...etc.
      So when you read about people uncomfortable with not having buttons, you may not need them much in a Tesla.
      Here's a link to a youtuber demoing the commands available two years ago. There are more that have been added since: m.th-cam.com/video/jfeuk49RbzY/w-d-xo.html
      No, I don't get paid by them! 😄
      However I do have a Tesla Cybertruck on backlog order.

    • @siasek
      @siasek  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sending the video over! I mean the voice commands are okay I suppose, but I just don't like it. Buttons are a way more ergonomic option to me and as I was watching the video you sent I got to thinking that doing voice commands seems like more work and more steps to get the desired action done. Like I have to think of the command I want to give/how to say it, then voice it and then the car will react and perform whatever it is I wanted. Otherwise I would just have a thought and press the button. It just still seems easier and more intuitive. I can't subscribe to this mentality that everything should be voice operated. I get that it's a cheaper option than buttons, but I just don't like it. 😄
      Regarding the phantom breaking - as far as I understand it was/is? an issue with Tesla because they use cameras instead of sensors. I personally haven't had or witnessed the same issue in other cars I've driven or ridden in.
      I'm sure I'll still test drive a Tesla at some point just to check it out.

      @@siasek I do understand about the buttons. I was thinking that you might not have been familiar with that option as it is way safer than trying to find a setting on the central screen. 😀
      I see that Tesla just reduced prices again in Europe a day or so ago. Even though there is plenty of demand for EVs in general they are serious about making them cheap enough so that every one will make the switch to an EV that much faster. I agree that there are a lot of compromises to make with the SE. But I still think it's an interesting option if looking for a good EV, but trying to keep costs down. I'd for sure want the Trophy myself though, if I end up going with MG at some point.

      The MG4 is a budget EV. The Trophy is trying to be something that it isn’t, namely a luxury model. If you want a luxury EV, don’t buy an MG. There’s no way that I’d spend the extra dosh on the Trophy. Personal opinion! 😂

      I'd certainly prefer if there was a rear wiper, even as a paid add-on option. I don't have one on my car (Citroen e-C4) now and it hasn't been much of an issue, but the e-C4 has a different shape, so I think that will make a difference.

    • @siasek
      @siasek  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think one has to own the car to understand that without a frunk and/or a double boot floor, your cables will simply slide around on the floor of your trunk. Unless you keep them say in your backseat, or perhaps fashion some sort of holder for them in your trunk... I suppose that would be a DIY solution

  • @rogerwilson6367
    @rogerwilson6367 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Massive problem with the MG4 in my opinion (after buying one) is all settings restoring to the default values. Turn off the lane assist, which in my opinion is downright dangerous and it comes back on after turning off. Sorting this would not add to the cost of the car, so why? I drive my car, not MG.

      I think it depends on the type of car you're driving. It is my experience that the built-in navigation in cheaper models tends to be slow and crappy.
