I have been waiting for a video that is literally just this for ages, and I honestly don’t think anyone could have done it better than you. Great video!
Back in the day, did any of you watch that one Assassin's Creed music video for a song called Beautiful Lies? It was fanmade, with all the cool transitions between the three different characters (watch it right now if you haven't!)? The heat action part of this video really reminded me of that but with the RGG boys instead, and now I wanna see a whole video dedicated to that sort of thing. Really great work there, not just on an editing level but also on doing the legwork for recording the footage. I think people tend to really underestimate the amount of work that goes into that stuff as well.
I have noticed times where I would see a heat action from an older game show up when I'm playing a newer one, it's quite fun to see them still even if you've used it a million times previously in another. I don't mind RGG reusing heat moves/fighting styles from older games since personally I barely notice similar fighting styles and it's always a treat seeing a returning heat move. As always, thank you and I really enjoy your videos and can't wait to see what you cook up next. Also, I really like that little detail where you made the Y7 logo transparent to show the skill's name. I love little details like those when I notice them. Thanks again.
Yeah, I really liked that. By the way a little addendum, I have to replay Y7 since my save data corrupted due to an unfortunately timed power outage last night. And actually, the huge traffic cones do exist in Y7, however as far as I know only in the very beginning when you chase down Ushio. So, between that and 18 years later something happened to the cones, or that RGG is using an older version of Kamurocho during that timeframe before Ichiban's arrest. But I like to think Kiryu destroyed all the huge traffic cones.
Ok yeah, the cones are there throughout chapter 1, but sadly Ichiban will only kick the cones towards enemies and not pick it up to use as an actual weapon. I'm heartbroken.
Glad the Akiyama/Yagami ones are here. Those are the ones I immediately noticed when I first saw Akiyama's gameplay And then there's Ishioda's counter which reminds me of one of Yagami's EX Actions so bad
Omfg i just Saw It what the fuck i never realized It, that's so funny tho it's strange why would they make that model just for like two seconds of screentime
I've started playing Yakuza 0 and I'm having the time of my life (Cabaret and Real estate are real time consuming, but I gotta get them legend styles). This video honestly made me realize just how many reused animations and combat styles the games managed to pull past me when watching heat action compilations. Some are of course easier to notice than others, still it's a great showcase of how RGG can make the old look fresh. Great video as always, can't wait for more from you
Yakuza 3's Coliseum uses Richardson & Mine's moveset so many times it's insane. Also honorable mention to Joji Kazama who's moves get used very often by enemies in future games.
The HACT from Yakuza 2 at 3:12 is also used by Mr. Shakedown when he grabs you and you don't escape him (its really easy to miss though because the game is lenient with his grab for some funny reason)
Another victim of the "steal your moveset no jutsu" is poor Joji. He may no longer be with us, but he's still here through the thousands of mArTiAl ArTs MaStErS who yoinked his karate. -seriously why does Media King know such a powerful style for no reason-
Yeah I'm pretty sure you're right but some of these ones I just used clips that were easier to record or that I already had tbh haha. Like the one where you bash their heads in with a stick or a similar weapon is from Yakuza 1 but I used footage from Yakuza 2 lol
I would like to add the following - The Deadly Tiger Extract (Judgment) is a reuse of 0's and Kiwami's Kiryu when he has brass knuckles equipped and hit circle. There could also be more games that use this animation as well. *{I could be wrong in exactly where the origins of this move came from, but it's the most memories to me}*
Random people using Kuze and Shibusawa's movesets make sense. Not because they'd appear from kickboxing that Kuze's always talking about, but I'd like to think they taught some of their subordinates how to fight and passed it down
How is it that when other games palette swap enemies I just roll my eyes, but when RGG palette swaps fighting styles and animations, I don't mind that much?
I think it’s because you’re rewarded for remembering styles. You know how to fight against them. In other games, it doesn’t matter too much. Also, each style (even the copied ones) has a slight shift to make it special. Like how Amon’s throws are different than Kiryu’s.
Here are some other things they reused -Yahata qte was reused in y0 as a heat action. (The rush heat action where you crush their uppercut with your elbow) -The majima qte from y1 y2 and y3 was reused in k1 -A heat action where you hit an object over someone’s head and release a furry of punches was from y1 and was reused for y0 yk1 y3 y4 y5 -Lao gui moveset reused in one of the coliseum bosses in yk1 -Mr shakedown move set reused for shimano boss fight in yk1 -Kiryu has the rush taunt that was reused in LJ as animation when you switched you style -In YK1 when you meet the florist you have to fight 3 coliseum bosses. The second boss has a heat action that was reused from Yakuza Black Panther (an old psp game) the heat action contains him jumping and kneeing you. - essence of wreckage/mounting was reused in all games but not the dragon engine games. The heat action was originally from the old yakuza 1 where you would be at critical health and use a heat action on a fallen enemy. -In YK2 Ryuji reuses his qte from his first battle into his last battle -Saejima’s moveset was reused in y0 with one of kiryu’s coliseum bosses and the boss is the hardest of all bosses -The prisoner from yakuza 5 with the scratched eye got his moveset reused in y0 with the Albert Einstein looking boss on majima’s coliseum -Kiryu’s heat action in y0 where he gets up and charges towards the enemy and ends him with a punch is reused in yk1 as yuya’s qte.
also another one: (Y5 and K1 SPOILERS) One of the QTE’s in the final Aizawa fight is reused into the final Nishiki fight in Kiwami (the headbutt parts replaced in the Y5 QTE are replaced with the screenshots of Kiryu and Nishiki instead)
Little surprised you didn't include the finisher from 3 since Shinada uses it as does one of the catfight girls in 0, but then again, there are other more interesting reuses. I'm a little surprised at the microwave one in LAD since I rarely if ever had a fight in the shops to do that.
I thought about that and the get up headbutt thingy majingy but ones like those two haven't been in any of the games for a while so I didn't include them. Plus Hell's Gauntlet or whatever it's called is long as hell haha
I think its kinda cool that they still have the animation for the PS2 games like they just have it lying around the office and was like "yeah this still good"
I loved playing is Kaito. Everything from his looks to the way he talks to the way he fights just felt like a throwback to Kiryu. Bro I was also going to say that Yagami sort of reminded me of Tanimura mixed with Akiyama.
Also if I'm not mistaken the (almost) entire fighting style of Mr Shakedown was reused for Shimano during the funeral fight in Kiwami (or at least that what I remember because I think they at least have the exact same fighting stance in their dynamic intros)
That's game development on a tight budget, imagine a jugement or yakuza game with GTA 5 money, we getting a 200 hour campaign and 10 characters, 5 cities and 100 minigames with a storyline each
My favorite of random shit they just reused was in Fist of the North Star Lost Paradise where the casino there is just straight from the casino in purgatory
The one of the most reused assets that hasn't been mentioned in the video NOR has it been mentioned by ANYONE in the comment section, is that one idle animation where a character holds their stomach while panting whenever it's meant to be shown they are hurt or exhausted in some way. I think it's been first made for the original PS2 Yakuza game and has been reused in basically every RGG game ever since.
RGG studios asset reuse is called out a lot, but in todays landscape where we find out about these ridiculous budgets and staff layoffs, its so apparent that the highest level of production values in AAA games comes with a great cost. Sony first party studios like Naughty Dog and Insonmiac are a good example, they will impress the hell out of you, but we are finding out their budgets are unsustainable. RGG studios cheaps out on a lot of things like this video shows, but in hindsight, they are smart and efficient with their money, maybe the industry can learn a thing or two from them.
This video was far more difficult to make than I had anticipated. I never really do this, but I kindly ask you to share this video with, like... your favourite high school English teacher or your local 7/11 clerk or whatever. Thank you :)

Well sonic's model even in new games is from 2007 game AFAIK and no one complains
for some reason, Yagami having so many heat actions from Akoyama just... makes sense to me

Even after their employees passed away they will still reused their work its almost poetic.
1:35 you cant just add that in and not warn us about it
Kiryu when he finds the perfect specimen for managing his real estate business at the bowling alley.
I played 0 first so I was surprised when I played 3 and learned that Kiryu's taunt came ALL THE WAY from there
Also I'm surprised you didn't cover the funny reused substory offices
every time I see that one big open space with the stage up front I go "hey it's that one sex cult place" (only because I played 0 first)
it's been popping up a lot in 5 because of Haruka
I really like the video, specially the part with the character selection screen and the the tekken music
The front grab heat move of Majima's in 0, is the same one of Shinada's at the end if his wall splat QTE segment
Thank you for noticing that little thing with the 7 because I legit always wonder if anyone would ever bother to notice stuff like that hahaha
I noticed one with Kiryu's superman punch heat move, it's re-used in Yuya's QTE if you miss it.
Glad the Akiyama/Yagami ones are here. Those are the ones I immediately noticed when I first saw Akiyama's gameplay
And then there's Ishioda's counter which reminds me of one of Yagami's EX Actions so bad
Funny thing I’ve found out is that kaito is a rused model from a cutscene in yakuza 5
the one before he fights the 100 Tojo men
Yeah lmao but the actual lore reason behind that is because Kaito is a time traveller wizard man
@@SnowiestAngeman Also, didn't Yakuza 5 take place while Kaito was still in the Tojo Clan? Or am I wrong?
@@ethanedwards3357 Maybe Kaito was one of 100 Tojo members Kiryu fought, granted Kaito already had Kiryu's moveset when he met Mikiko.
@@ethanedwards3357 Probably he existed before or since Yakuza 5 but only debuted in judgment, so it's not canon
Omfg i just Saw It what the fuck i never realized It, that's so funny tho it's strange why would they make that model just for like two seconds of screentime
Honestly the only one I mind is really recognizable Boss movesets being given to random jackoffs.
Great video as always, can't wait for more from you
5:58 The giant cone finally manage to get a wife and exit from RGG studios, now he's son continues with his legacy...
You just made me realize how much a yakuza fighting game would kick ass
Yakuza 3's Coliseum uses Richardson & Mine's moveset so many times it's insane. Also honorable mention to Joji Kazama who's moves get used very often by enemies in future games.
The HACT from Yakuza 2 at 3:12 is also used by Mr. Shakedown when he grabs you and you don't escape him (its really easy to miss though because the game is lenient with his grab for some funny reason)
RGG studio is probably one of the best on reusing old assets on their games.
Another victim of the "steal your moveset no jutsu" is poor Joji.
He may no longer be with us, but he's still here through the thousands of mArTiAl ArTs MaStErS who yoinked his karate.
-seriously why does Media King know such a powerful style for no reason-
Love u and thank u for your hard work doing this kind of videos
Love you too Spanish table person
@@SnowiestAngeman no problem but it actually says table desk, for no f reason tbh🤑
This is the video I needed, ffs thank you so much
They missed the chance to make the giant cone a boss fight in LAD, they could have done something comically large with it.
My man's went hogwild with the editing! For once the subscribed to not subscribed ratio is completely valid
The music syncing up with the kicks is so fucking baller.
im pretty sure 1:05 is from yakuza 2 for PS2, and I think the bowling ball one is from PS2 too
Yeah I'm pretty sure you're right but some of these ones I just used clips that were easier to record or that I already had tbh haha. Like the one where you bash their heads in with a stick or a similar weapon is from Yakuza 1 but I used footage from Yakuza 2 lol
They also reused Kuze’s animation for Judgement’s VR minigame I think
Actually splendid montage. I'm bluffed
Thank you Jesus Christ himself
Bless you, son.
Comically Large Traffic Cone has always been in my top 3 favorite characters within the Yakuza universe
1:33 Feel like there's lot of people who missed out this important bit.
Ikr why is no one talking about that it was so funny 😂
i didn't know you could do the convivence store microwave thing in LAD!!!
Ryosuke horii is my dad he says that he's going to remove joon-gi han from y8 because you made this vid
Dam
Clicked on the video expecting a simple comparison after the other, found some absolutely superb editing and many cool facts. Really nice video!
Yagami and Akiyama got those 100kg single-leg knee raises mastered to perfection.
is it odd that i get a little emotional whenever one from 2005 crops up again?
I would like to add the following
- The Deadly Tiger Extract (Judgment) is a reuse of 0's and Kiwami's Kiryu when he has brass knuckles equipped and hit circle. There could also be more games that use this animation as well.
*{I could be wrong in exactly where the origins of this move came from, but it's the most memories to me}*
Nice job on the editing dude, my favorite part was the tekken segment
unrelated but this is some high level editing, made this video so much more satisfying
Not unrelated at all haha. Thank you
Most reused moveset:
Andre Richardson (Unarmed)
Ricky Mask/Rikiya
Knuckles Tamashiro
Yahata
Kuze (both unarmed and pipe)
Mine and rush shibusawa too
I love how much of Akiyama's kit gets reused by Yagami in Judgment.
You forgot how Shimano in kiwami just has Mr.Shakedowns moveset
rip giant cones
rest peacefully in the big blue sky..
4:27 "Kanai moveset is overused"
Tamashiro joined the chat
I’m still waiting for the Kaito Files dynamic intro, qte and action sequence music sync
Random people using Kuze and Shibusawa's movesets make sense. Not because they'd appear from kickboxing that Kuze's always talking about, but I'd like to think they taught some of their subordinates how to fight and passed it down
shockin how they reuse assets from a PS2 game and still made it look good
1:47 that music sync was lit.
so kaito really is kiryu's replacement
The grab counter heat action has been around since Yakuza 3, it's over a decade old lmao
Straight in like every game too haha
How is it that when other games palette swap enemies I just roll my eyes, but when RGG palette swaps fighting styles and animations, I don't mind that much?
Honestly even though they reuse a lot, there's so much variety in the presentation of these games that I think that makes up for it all
@@SnowiestAngeman Plus I'm sure they don't expect people to shotgun their way through the series or meticulously record everything.
I think it’s because you’re rewarded for remembering styles. You know how to fight against them. In other games, it doesn’t matter too much.
Also, each style (even the copied ones) has a slight shift to make it special. Like how Amon’s throws are different than Kiryu’s.
@@elijahfyffe5176like in y5 Jo amon uses Kiryu’s fighting style but if he hits you in dragon spirit he starts air juggling you like Akiyama
of course they would, the heat animations are still sick as hell
These are some legendary edits.
Here are some other things they reused
-Yahata qte was reused in y0 as a heat action. (The rush heat action where you crush their uppercut with your elbow)
-The majima qte from y1 y2 and y3 was reused in k1
-A heat action where you hit an object over someone’s head and release a furry of punches was from y1 and was reused for y0 yk1 y3 y4 y5
-Lao gui moveset reused in one of the coliseum bosses in yk1
-Mr shakedown move set reused for shimano boss fight in yk1
-Kiryu has the rush taunt that was reused in LJ as animation when you switched you style
-In YK1 when you meet the florist you have to fight 3 coliseum bosses.
-In YK2 Ryuji reuses his qte from his first battle into his last battle
-Saejima’s moveset was reused in y0 with one of kiryu’s coliseum bosses and the boss is the hardest of all bosses
-The prisoner from yakuza 5 with the scratched eye got his moveset reused in y0 with the Albert Einstein looking boss on majima’s coliseum
-Kiryu’s heat action in y0 where he gets up and charges towards the enemy and ends him with a punch is reused in yk1 as yuya’s qte.
also another one: (Y5 and K1 SPOILERS)
One of the QTE’s in the final Aizawa fight is reused into the final Nishiki fight in Kiwami (the headbutt parts replaced in the Y5 QTE are replaced with the screenshots of Kiryu and Nishiki instead)
Shimano having shakedown's moveset has to be the worst one
The doctor in majimas coliseum actually uses Katsuya from Yakuza 5, not kugihara
Also the Y2 and YK2 heat action of Kiryu holding an enemy in their hold and bashing the top of their skull is a Heat Action in both Kurohyou games
honestly, most of the heat action animations they recycled are pure fire, i'm always happy to see them again!
I think the biggest asset reusual to me was the Fukuoka highway being used in the chase sequences for both 0 and K1
I think its kinda cool that they still have the animation for the PS2 games like they just have it lying around the office and was like "yeah this still good"
the montage is just perfect, allows to learn more about the licence while laughing
The character select screen bit is hilarious, thank you
I loved playing is Kaito.
Yeah Shimano in Kiwami 1 used Mr Shakedown's fighting style for whatever reason
That's game development on a tight budget, imagine a jugement or yakuza game with GTA 5 money, we getting a 200 hour campaign and 10 characters, 5 cities and 100 minigames with a storyline each
More like on a tight schedule and the inabilty to postpone their games contrary to what's common in the non japanese gaming industry
My favorite of random shit they just reused was in Fist of the North Star Lost Paradise where the casino there is just straight from the casino in purgatory
Or the fact they reused crane style rush combo when attacking the little dudes in the wasteland
@@wack6982 Actually fist of the North Star lost paradise came out before judgement so technically judgement is the one reusing it lol
Video: look at this reused animations
Me: oh shit I didnt know those HE exist
Shimano: You know, I'm something of a Mr. Shakedown myself.
