      Only discovered him recently, and I’m seeing someone that Britain has needed since the 1990’s. He’s challenging of received opinions yet belly laugh funny, in a way that makes me think of Peter Cook and David Frost in the 1960’s, when satire was dangerous and new.
      And, what I think would be a great idea, would be for his Pie character to do a TV special with Alan Partridge. Seriously! Imagine the opportunities for satire? When we first got Alan Partridge, he was just one of a group of characters satirising the news on The Day Today and now, though he’s still hilarious, he’s less satire and more character comedy. I’d love to see Partridge back on the sharp edge of satire and putting these two characters in the same show would be an opportunity for Coogan’s real genius to shine again, if they could get Armando Iannucci to contribute to the Partridge side of the script? There might even be a movie in that? The, “hot metal,” of Pie’s political correspondent journalism, clashing with the, “soft soap,” of Partridge’s light entertainment, “chattersphere,” would be hilarious with the right writers! They would console each other, having so much in common, about their divorces and personal lives, whilst hating each other’s politics and journalistic styles! Just imagine the possibilities!

      @Jack Cardiff Oh yes, the elites like every scientist including the ones not making much money (now there's a group in favor of the elites stance on lowering education funding) are definitely making up a plot that specifically points at major industries being the biggest problem.
      Worldwide conspiracies specifically saying "the elites of the world are poisoning us and reaping the benefits" is the ultimate plan because it would be so fucking stupid for the elites to be the masterminds that we'd never suspect them! I've seen some dumb climate change conspiracy theories but this is the dumbest by far.

      @Jack Cardiff You dozy shit.

    • @TheZorginator1
      @TheZorginator1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Jack Cardiff Aside from the fact that you’re completely wrong about scientists to the point where you might as well say “most scientists believe in flat earth theory” because it’s so absurd, why wouldn’t the elites make their conspiracy something that doesn’t target...any of their main cash cows? And why are scientists and governments who aren’t hyper focused on elites go along with it? There are many countries where plenty of people in charge investigate climate change, believe it’s real, and act accordingly.
      Your theory might make a little bit of sense if viewed only from the perspective of the US and some other nations, but this would have to be a worldwide conspiracy. You’re suggesting that the Illuminati or whoever are already in control of every country in the world as a singular group rather than infighting and that they orchestrate all of world politics. If that’s the case...why the fuck would they ever need this massive conspiracy? Just get a nuke to some cities, make up a terrorist organization, and use that to curtail freedoms and depopulate as they please. It would be so much easier.
      If the elites were stupid enough to actually use the plan you suggest, they wouldn’t be able to pull it off as well as they have.

      The planetary systems aren't going to collapse during his lifetime and it's disingenuous to imply they will. The risk most people alive today in the first world face from climate change is the indirect consequences of its effects on vulnerable developing nations and more expensive weather events. Not to say that these won't be extremely serious, but to imply that the gulf stream or food chain will collapse due to warming or significant sea level rise or planetary ecological collapse will occur is hyperbole. If we do reach a point of no return with regard to positive feedback it will still take centuries to seriously threaten human existence on the planet.
      I say this because people on the left need to be honest about the consequences or people will continue not to believe them.

    • @AskAkseli
      @AskAkseli 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@cynicalpenguin not sure I completely agree with you there. Yes, the full rate of projected sea levels rises will take centuries, but other catastrophic events, such as widespread anoxic oceans (especially in the tropics) probably only decades, extreme heat-wave events are probably only years away and of course increased droughts, fires and crop failures are already with us. So George might not see the end of it, but it is possible he will see the start.

    • @cynicalpenguin
      @cynicalpenguin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AskAkseli While you aren't wrong, we may have a different interpretation of what George meant when he said that the planetary systems can "flip". To me it represents a significant existential threat. I don't consider what we're already seeing, that is an increase in frequency/severity of heat waves, fires, droughts etc to fall under that term and I don't think they are likely to directly threaten Jonathan Pie, at least to the point that George can assert that they will kill him. We may not agree on that.

    But you can not convince rich people to give up their private jets, their tropical holiday resorts, and their stocks in fossil fuel. They think it's impossible that they'll die because of it. Dying is something for poor people. Being rich means never facing consequences. Just ask Boris.
