Under a gravity field with minimal gradient (like on Earths surface) the center of mass is the same as the center of gravity. However if the strength of gravity were significantly different across an object (as it would be near a black hole) then the center of gravity could be different from the center of mass. For all intents and purposes on Earth they’re the same thing.
