QB is the most mysterious position in football
It just all depends on the teams they got drafted by the players around him and the coaches
Some players needed a certain coach to unlock there potential

He played one game in '20. Against UCA. Didnt play well.
Then he had a monster combine. I mean "He must be Him." Type performance. A combine baby.

@@MikeHarvey-ol7xr it's even crazier than that. You're a fellow tape rat, I'm assuming. You mentioned some things only a rat would notice.
      1. Beyond the 0 int, he had less than 10 contested passes all year. That's not just a red flag, that drops you off the board if the scouts understand football. He played in a ridiculously basic scheme.
      2. That scheme was because of him. He's not a high IQ player. He never, ever called an audible and check downs were slim to none.
Again, a good scout understands that means one of three things:
      1. The coaches are ignorant and don't know how to scheme. Not likely considering that HC took over at KSU and has revolutionized that offense.
      2. They don't trust him. If you're not giving him options, that's because he can't be trusted to understand when and why.
      3. He's an airhead. His interviews confirmed this. Shanahan didn't want him, but McDaniel and the owner were sold. The brass forced the pick. Shanny knew it was a waste from go.
In this case it's 2 and 3. He just didn't have it, but because of Wentz and the spotlight on that program (NDSU during the 5 year period from Wentz to Lance lost 0.3 games a year, and, they had more players drafted in that time than the rest of fcs combined) and him going off in Indy, he got the "Needle" treatment. As in they thought they'd found the needle in the haystack.
The Lawrence draft had 4 "Needles". Only Trevor remains. Teams feel forced to draft a QB in the first. It's killing the league.

Fields is a victim of bad timing since he was drafted by a coach and GM who were both on the hot seat trying to save their jobs. This was mostly because Ryan Pace's roster construction sucked as he constantly traded picks to move up in the draft and only did the bare minimum to improve the o-line and skill positions. And when Pace finally did draft a tackle, he needed back surgery and missed half his rookie season - which has been a recurring theme since the last super bowl appearance for them. Nagy on the other hand failed Justin by putting him in as a starter far too soon against an opportunistic Browns defense led by Myles Garrett while implementing a game plan that envisioned using Andy Dalton passing from the pocket. He got sacked like 10 times in his first game and the sacks never stopped coming. Big Dick Nick Foles who was second on the depth chart should have gotten the start against the Browns and let Justin start against an easier opponent. Nagy continued to not tailor the game plans to Justin's strengths the rest of the season and both he and Pace were gone at the end.
Poles has been very diplomatic in his wait-and-see approach to Justin's development, but ultimately his slow development and inconsistent play have led Poles to move in a different direction.
I wish Justin all the best in his second chance with the Steelers because he's a good dude with very obvious talent that needs to be harnessed and have the wrinkles in his game ironed out. And I look forward to the dawning of the Caleb Williams era in Chicago and hope that maybe, just maybe fortune smiles upon the Bears at the quarterback position. Even the Cubs eventually won a World Series, no?

The highest draft position would probably be Josh Allen and he wasn't even taken in the top five. All this trade up and qb run talk feels like insanity. one expert said it before the best way to be draft proof is just to trade down and get as many picks as possible. because most people always get them wrong, thats just how math works. so having more picks will shield you from misses. and rookie wage is so cheap, hitting 1 or 2 is save you like 10-15m a year vs veteran pros.

Most rookie QBs need to sit. Mahomes sat. Rodgers sat. Jackson sat. The Manning brothers and Matt Stafford are the exception, not the rule.

3:42 that’s not his draft evaluation, it’s his 1:1 artistic representation of Trey Lance’s hair.

Another reason why it feels like the QB position is more open is because the recent generation of HOF QBs are leaving a vacuum behind, with even just playoff spots able to be filled, plus now a 7th seed for an extra ‘chance’. All 32 Teams can enter a season and not feel like certain results are just a ‘given’ (like Brady winning 17 division titles ! Or Big Ben’s 8 or Rodgers’ 8)
    AFC
Brady - made the playoffs 20 of 21 seasons (as primary starter)
Roethlisberger - 12 of 18 seasons with Steelers
    NFC
Brees - playoffs 9 of 15 seasons in New Orleans
Ryan - 6 of 14 seasons in Atlanta
Rodgers - 12 of 18 (15 really as the first 3 seasons were meagre ‘learning’) seasons in Green Bay
Stafford’s 3 of 12 seasons with the Lions
    Rivers - 6 of 16 with Chargers
Eli Manning - 6 of 16 seasons with Giants

I still think Trevor Lawrence will be a top 5 qb... I just don't think it will be with the Jags.
I mean, there are some teams that always seem to have a good QB and some teams that have never had one... It's not a coincidence...
Drafting is only half the battle; the other half is properly developing your young QB and building your scheme around his strengths.

From what I’ve heard from people in Oxford, Matt Corral has had some real struggles with his mental health. Took a year to find himself. It seems like he’s back on the come up and I really hope he can succeed in the UFL and maybe move into a backup NFL role. He’s a good dude who I hope can find success.

Trevor probably the biggest disappointment compared to the decades-long hype for him right from high school.

Right. So far he's a "just ok" NFL QB. Certainly has not lived up to any of the hype

You have to take into account where he is and the weapons he has.
If Trevor was on a good team with weapons and a decent O-line then he would be a top 5 QB
