This made me think back to when miss A was dropped off to you guys and the social worker said that miss A was a bit materialistic or something like that. Watching you guys with her for a year, it is so obvious that isn't the case. Her reaction was so sweet and grateful! ♥️

It made me think back to that comment too, that was a horrible comment to say in the present of any child or person especially when they are so vulnerable. Turns out miss A was able to teach Whitney and John about hair which will help Whitney with her new found love for wigs lol who can now use what she has learned if she needs to for future placements.
She seemed genuinely appreciative

Way to go Ms A for those grades! Being 15 as a girl is the hardest year. I don't know why, but 15 just is. So being 15, being in foster care, changing schools and not knowing anyone, then add in the virus, this girl has had major obstacles to overcome. And look at her rock it! So proud of you Ms A!
I love how much y'all enjoy doing things for her, praising her and making sure she feels wanted and loved. All kids should have that, and foster kids need it more. I wish there were more people like y'all

15 was hard for me too. Actually, I had a health condition and was missing class because of it. To top it off, my friends were finding new friends, and I didnt know who to sit with at lunch. Finally, I decided I'd had enough of being sick at school and went to online school.
This decision shaped the rest of my life very negatively. Through the difficulties of being 15, unable to find myself, plus being sick... I made an impulsive choice that ultimately made the last 10 years very difficult for me.
Something about that age is very crucial to the rest of your life. I'm happy that at 15, miss a - despite her difficulties - has positive role models surrounding her and she has a strong sense of self-motivation.
I'm so proud of her. Truly. I wish I applied myself the way she did.
I wish my foster home had been that supportive. I could never do anything right or well enough. It was so hard going from the environment you were brought up in to a completely new one with new expectations and rules that were never clearly defined. Especially as a teen. I kept asking my foster mom to please explain what she wanted done (i.e. chores) and what her expectations were so I would know what to do. She wouldn't explain anything saying I was old enough so I should automatically know. I felt like I was set up to fail from day one. She finally called my case worker and said "now I understand why her dad beat her. Please take her back". I love watching you with Miss A. I am so grateful to see how loving and supportive you are. I guarantee she will always remember and always appreciate you!

I also switched from a 7 to an 11 around Christmas. Over the summer I went to the beach. I’d wipe off my hands before using my phone but it still got bad scratches! Make sure she has a screen protector!

Lol same. I got the 7 like a year year and a half ago on purpose. 😂 It was the cheapest iphone Verizon offered without being refurbished. I’m so going back to android after this phone as long as it lasts me until I finish these next two semesters of college.

This is incredible, but not just because of the phone, because of the fact that you recognized something she was passionate about. So many parents will say “oh, it’s just a phone” or “spend less time on that phone” and disregard the fact that it is simply something that brings the child joy, something they like to do. It may be different than what most adults like to do in their free time, but that doesn’t mean it’s not valid. I’m so glad that you guys are able to recognize her hard work and reward with something that will mean a lot to her.

Oh my goodness it just doesn't seem like I started watching you all a year ago and was so anxious to see who your new foster child would be. Miss. A is so lucky to have you all in her life but I kind of think you all are lucky to have her in your lives as well. I think she has enriched your lives as much as you have hers. I just wish all foster matches worked out as well.

Love this! I don’t see anything wrong with letting kids have nice things if they show that they can handle it and deserve it. I’m a CASA volunteer and one of the saddest rules my county has for us, is that we can’t give our kids gifts.
I watch so many TH-camrs that were in foster homes and always have a story about the BEST family and I am sure you guys will be Miss A’s!!! Glad you guys acknowledge all her accomplishments!!! Super sweet!! ❤️

My daughter got her first iPhone at 12 years old. It was an iPhone 5c, we kept it until about 1 year ago, when we upgraded her phone to the iPhone 11 due to Apple making us have to upgrade. She’s 19 years old now. There is nothing wrong with rewarding her good work, that’s how it should be.
We use Straight Talk to service her iPhone and we’ve had it for over 7 years and have not had any problems with service in FL or CA. I travelled a lot for work. It can do all the same things other carriers can. If you’re worried about Miss A’s family not having Verizon, you can go to Wal-Mart and get a Straight Talk sim kit for 99 cents and put their sim in that phone. That way she can pay the monthly service fee which is less than $40 a month. That should work much better and she can keep her phone number too.

You are just so lovely, every kid in need should get to stay with a family like yours. You do an amazing job at explaining how foster families work as well. I think her grades are also a result of a safe and loving home, thank you so much for providing her with the basics so she can grow so beautifully! I ofc hope that she can go back to her bio family if that's what they and she want but for now just keep the love up.
She actually has a history of great grades! She really cares about doing well at school.
I have a very responsible 15 yr old daughter too. She got straight A's even during the pandemic! Unfortunately i was a hair stylist so i lost my job, so I cant afford a huge reward, but i got her her favorite smoothie as a reward. Hey, its what i can do. When it comes to her fon, i ask for all passwords and I check her fon now and then when she is sleeping or showering.
That is a great gift. Good job to Miss A for working hard and accomplishing such good grades !

My teens are self starters also (thank God 😂) as soon as they got their school packets they had them done in a day or two it was so nice seeing them take the initiative I was worried school from home was going to be hard on them. I work for Verizon, and just so you know we don’t lock our phones. We have a 30 days fraud period that will prevent that phone from working on any other networkIf. If Mrs A. leaves, she can pop in a T-Mobile SIM card or any other carrier and it will work. That is fully your decision though, and I’m sure you will make the best choice when that time comes. (You would still be responsible for the monthly payments, or you could pay it off in full.)

I LOVE your consideration and analysis before making this decision... you thought about it and weighed the pros and cons. I used to work for a Home for abused/abandoned/orphaned kids in a developing country, and one of my highest frustrations was random excessive gifts from Americans (people not consistently in their lives nor culture) that did a huge amount of damage and created major entitlement issues that deeply hurt their chances of succeeding when they were out on their own. But YOUR decision warmed my heart.. it was analyzed, consulted and includes limits. I love your family and how you approach foster care. Thank you for giving me a positive picture of a family actually functioning in a healthy and knowledge-based way, instead of just my dreams of what could be. I’m so glad Miss A got you guys, and you are able to be blessed by her as well. Thank you for the encouragement that there are families out there truly willing to do the best for another child, putting aside their own intentions, beliefs and convenience. Seriously, I needed this after I left the Home I served at, choosing to leave because I couldn’t continue to support the care without improvements in practices. Your channel has shown me a little glimpse of hope in reality, as I’ve always believed in family-based care for displaced kids but haven’t seen a family so constantly aware and unbiased/accepting. Ya’ll are awesome. 😊💗

@@BeTheVillageCommunity I really like how John explained to her in friendly, positive terms right as she opened it "As long as you are with us, that is your phone." The timing and phrasing of that was perfect and very thoughtful. It was a nice way of saying "that's your phone, yes, but don't get too excited and get your hopes up, cuz it's still.... not technically your phone..." before she could get her hopes up (if she would have) about maybe getting to take it with her. It's always tricky when there are stipulations that come with gifts, but I think the initial way he worded it was the best!
i don’t know if it’s different in the US but in the UK you can get the phone separately and then add a plan onto it, and then can cancel the plan at any time. i pay for my phone monthly direct to apple and then pay for my plan with the phone company which i’m not tied into. but i’d understand keeping the phone for any future foster kids as it’s such a big purchase!
@@sillygoosegoose i'm in finland and here you just go to a store and buy a phone and then pop in whatever sim card you have, so it's no problem to change providers! :)
@@sillygoosegoose It's different in the US. Many phones are tied to carrier. They can be unlocked if they are fully paid off and the carrier allows it but they make it difficult. Then, once unlocked, you can only use it with a provider that shares the right network.
