  • Here are some ideas for breakfast. Also, I forgot to mention that I eat Greek yogurt if i'm not super hungry or I'm not feeling my best. I prefer Oikos brand.

    I am so glad you have this channel. My son is 25 this year and had to come home because he was so ill. he was diagnosed with crohns this year in April and spent a couple of weeks in the hospital. He is now down to 109 pounds. He is 6ft and 3 in tall. I just become so tearful when I see him in the morning. He seems to be in pain all the time. He has autism (Asbergers ) so it is already hard. we will try the oatmeal and see if it works for him. thank you for the info so badly needed

      Maisha Ellison-safford You are so welcome. If that doesn’t work well, try yogurt or dairy free yogurt.

      @@thatcrohnslife we will try it for tomorrow. I never thought about oatmeal or peanut butter. He still is in a major flare and trying to get in remission..they are giving steroids and stelyara. If he keeps going down they are considering a TPN in his arm which will cause other problems...so I will try your suggestions...THANK you so much

    It’s strange but oats make me feel worse, like it’s too heavy for me digest, I usually stick with making a fruit smoothie in the morning. You can get cereals which don’t have sugar either so you don’t have to cut them out just find the right ones.

    • @thatcrohnslife

      moose185 I agree, oats don’t agree with everyone. Sometimes toast is better for some.

    Hi thanks for your helpful video 👍 can I ask, do you have to be extra careful even while taking something like Humira?

    • @thatcrohnslife
      @thatcrohnslife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Humira, for the most part, will help lighten your symptoms. I am on Humira and it has helped me heal parts of the gastro track so I CAN eat more foods. I am able to eat more fiber and rough foods because the Humira lowers the inflammation that would be caused by it...if that makes sense :)

    Oats contain melatonin and tryptophan, Best eaten at night! Protein-based breakfast is best for a good start that doesn’t feel heavy. Then oatmeal for supper as the melatonin and tryptophan will put you to sleep!

    I have been advised to eat a low fibre diet. Recently diagnosed with Crohns 6 months ago. It's been hell!
    Chia floats me...I used to eat over night oats too. Now cornflakes or ready break porridge only.

    • @thatcrohnslife
      @thatcrohnslife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally get the struggle! Make sure you try to get vitamins and protein in other ways because you are now so limited. Ask your doctor if you should be taking different vitamins or could try low fiber protein drinks in the morning to supplement.

    As for having a little juice in the afternoon or evening with a meal, like perhaps apple juice, would it help to water it down? What about sugar-free juices? How about juicing in general, do you personally do that?

    • @thatcrohnslife
      @thatcrohnslife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter Bañuelos diluting will help with the acidity. I personally don’t drink any juices unless i’m flaring and it’s an easy way to get sugar into my bloodstream.

    Oh I miss cereal... just let me have shreddies 😭 I've also found oatmeal to be good in the mornings, have you tried toasting the oats first? I find it makes for a more interesting nutty flavour.
    One thing I'd like to ask you is about veg and soups. I'm desperate to eat soups but can't find a veg combo that doesn't give me grief, do you have any suggestions?

    • @thatcrohnslife
      @thatcrohnslife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      datura1919 i’ll have to try! So, pastas or white rice soups are low residue. Also, any veggies cooked well should be okay, just as long as they have no skins. So celery, tomatoes, and such are not good. Skinless veggies are best for soups; carrots, skinless potatoes, and string beans. Beats and asparagus tips are low fiber too but not ideal for a soup haha.

    • @thatcrohnslife
      @thatcrohnslife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anupam Alok I’m lucky that small amounts of soy (like in PB) don’t irritate me, but many have to avoid this. There are other “butters” now that don’t contain soy! Yay

    When I used to eat oatmeal, 10 minutes later I had to run to the bathroom. I had an explosive diarrhea. Anyone else?

    • @thatcrohnslife
      @thatcrohnslife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fiber content and the texture can irritate some people, but it also depends on the kind of oatmeal too.
