Mulching Leaves with a Zero Turn Mower- Easy Leaf Cleanup

  • I demonstrate a quick leaf cleanup job using a blower and lawn mower. I simply blow the leaves to an area where I can get the mower to them. Then I take the zero turn mower and mulch the leaves. I am using a chute block on this mower which helps. You can mulch with a full mulch kit which works better. I typically don't use a mulch kit because it can be difficult with thick grass or lots of leaves. I like the chute blocker because it allows me to open it to side discharge the leaves or grass when necessary.

I haven't used a bagger in years and hardly ever haul leaves away. Walk behinds work best for me though bc I can ride a wheelie over the pile easier while mulching.

With that much native area around, those leaves go back to the forest. We used to have a 3 acre property in the woods, it was leaf mania all season.

I have a 48" scag that fans the leaves just before they can be sucked up really well.

I side discharge when I mulch with my zero turn it does a better job that way.

I do this too, Jason! How much do you charge customers for this type of service? I try to charge my hourly rate of $75. Of course it varies depending on property size and how many leaves they have. I try to continue mowing along with leaf mulching in October and November.

I have a 42 inch ztr with a mulch kit with gator blades and a 50 inch ztr with a triple bagger on it. Before I blow anything I clean up the open area by mulching it, then I blow any remaining leaves out into the open area and mulch them. After that I run the triple bagger over them to pick them up. I have large 132 gallon reusable bags to dump my tipple bagger leaves in to. When I get to the dump I just empty them and have no residue in my truck bed to deal with. I agree, mulch first.

@@chuckmaxon3727 I ended up looking them up after asking and found them, surprisingly cheap. Was also interested in the 3cuYd tarp dumpster from Waste Management for 28$. Seems like a great way to dump clipping/leaves in the trailer without them spilling out on the equipment

Honestly. I could have moved all those leaves faster than that mower mulched with my echo 9010 with a much cleaner result. Time is $$$ personally I think that Milwaukee is way too slow

I started out mowing as a side hustle after watching Jason,Keith Kalfas and Geek to Freak. I'd work mainly weekends my first year mowing between 8-12 yards. My second season I doubled my customer base and had to start mowing some in the evenings during the week. After realizing I was making more money on my side hustle than my full-time job I decided to take a leap and go full-time in my lawn business. I was tired of working for people and being paid what they thought I'm worth. Now I work 9 months out of the year and make more money then working full-time for someone else and take 3 months off over the winter to do whatever I want. Good luck and you won't regret it!

C'mon man that looks a mess , Shute blocks don't work on leaf's, got to have a mulch kit on mower, I run full mulch kit on Gravely 48 with gator blades for fall, cleans up very good , they really disappear. The longer the leaves stay under the deck the more they are cut up , high lift blade won't work very well, got to use a gator blade.

I have a pretty big lawn mowing business,I have 4 troy-bilt z54 zero turn mowers.and 3 troy-bilt mustang 54 inch older zero turn mower.i have a mulch plug for all of my mowers.plus I have 2 big troy-bilt super bronco 54 garden tractor,1 troy-bilt super bronco 50 inch lawn mower.and a 22 year old mtd 42 inch riding lawn mower to.and a use my troy-bilt zero turn lawnmower's to mulch up leave with to,but I do not use any mulch blades to mulch the leaves up with only the plugs I put on them.anx I'd have to say it but may mowers mulch up people's leaves alot faster and better than you are doing in this video, sorry but I've been in the lawn business now over 35 years.and I do not charge the people extra for getting up there leaves for them now.my guys just blow out the leaves and then we just run over them and that it the yards are as clean as a golf course is.we use mostly stihl br200 leaf blowers, and stihl 50 hand held leaf blowers.and nothing but Husqvarna weed eaters.but we don't do and weer eating most the time when mulching up leaves!!!!!

Am I the only one that feels like all this guy can do is mow? I mean, that wasn't a mulching job with the mower, and his other videos he does the same thing and for two years now that I've watched him, his own yard and those he services don't look that good. I'm not knocking him, I mean all I do is mow and fertilize. Keep my yard and a few others looking great, I don't know the first thing about weed control.... but this dude makes a living off that without results? And he's charging others to teach them how to do what he does?
