Tour: Standing on the Shoulder of Giants Tour
Taking a short break from the Be Here Now tour as I've just discovered I had this and I wanted to make a proper complete version of the video.
My first time properly uploading video to this channel and quite fitting it is the first show of the SOTSOG tour and the first show of the new millennium, live on Jools Holland. The band were given literally the entire episode, where every song but three from the performance were shown. Acquiesce and Sunday Morning Call were never broadcast so are missing from this; however, Live Forever was broadcast 3 days before the Jools Holland broadcast on TOTP2, so that is included here too. The Jools set was sourced from the 2022 rebroadcast of the gig and Live Forever from the originally 2000 broadcast.
We see the first proper performances of Go Let It Out, Gas Panic, Where Did It All Go Wrong and Who Feels Love tonight with WDIAGW being played acoustically compared to it being played on electric on the normal tour. This also includes one of three My Generation performances from 2000. We would also see a few songs returning to the set which we haven't seen in a while, Rock 'n' Roll Star returns after being absent since the Morning Glory tour and Some Might Say also returns after being absent since the Be Here Now tour.
This gig would also be our first proper showing of the new lineup, Liam sounds a lot like he did in the few 1999 shows, but does struggle a bit more here with some of the songs where he'd be expected to show off. Noel and the rest of the band are still figuring it out which is quite evident here but they do quite well, shame the crowd doesn't seem that up for it though.
Setlist:
00:00 - Introduction by Jools Holland

It’s 2024. I’m so happy right now .
Rock and Roll is alive!!!
Madforit!!!
bro, you never hear this again. sorry.
The era where Alan White was completely ignoring his hi hat. He says it's because Noels guitar and his hi hat were both loud in his ears so he played the ride to give his ears a rest. But as a jazz drummer he's probably more at home on the ride anyway.
what a gold insight. cool man. I always wonder why whitey always play on the ride
@@scapegear4978 Im a drummer too and tbh I prefer playing the ride to the hats.
that's cool man. but for oasis live I think it's better with hi hats as it adds more raw feel to it @@DavidOakesMusic
Not completely according to this gig.
Absolutely, he leaned heavily upon it on the Giants tour. I prefer the sound too, suits the songs on this tour (Go Let It Out, Gas Panic!) nicely.

It all went wrong once Be Here Now was released or Standing On The Shoulders of Giants.
@@johnharvey4448 long story short, they dropped drugs by Noel’s demand
But I personally think it went wrong with Heathen Chemistry, SOSG has mega top vibe tunes
@@PC360Guy Do you mean they stopped taking drugs ?
This is one of the peak performances in SOTSOG era, Liam had recovered his excellent singing. It's awesome to relisten to the full concert every once and then❤
What is SOTSOG? Thanks man
@@Taylor___ It's the acronym for the album "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants" ;)
The bass shines
Was also a warning sign they should have ditched Some Might Say there and then. 3 gigs later his voice would go during SMS in Japan, leaving Noel to do 80% of the set by himself. Not good when only four concerts in.
@@simongooch9201 Pretty sure that was because of all the drugs he was taking.
I truly hope this video won't be taken down by YT, because it's a masterpiece. Oasis at their peak. Remastered video, great sound. Just brilliant.
Kannste dir nicht ausdenken.❤
YT didn t take it down but....ads between each songs !!!😅
They are not so stupid, but cupid
This GIG IS MASTERPIECE. 10/10. Great Times. Live Forever.
Imagine at the time seeing this from 3 years ago a full on punk rock n roll band 1994-1997 attitude then to a more mysterious pysadellic band from 2000 love the switch up
Punk?
@@samuelrodrigues361 not punk but like you know what I mean
@@samuelrodrigues361 that rawness about them it seems post 2000 they had a different kind of class
@@fingibson75949I honestly thought "Bring it on down" from DM is a 90s punk song "we're the underclass" plus Tony's drumming was perfect punk drumming. That years glasto performance is great.
Having observed both during the time period you mention the difference was really Gem and Andy Bell. The more psychedelic, nuanced sound you mention was a natural result of having more accomplished musicians in the band.
Oasis at the top of their game. Love it!
Unreal stuff, Liams only about 28 here and already earned legendary status several times over
Show biz age mate, don't believe everything you read lol
@@alanreadofficial How old is he then?
@@councilcut well that's his business and no ones else's really, he don't have to share his birth certificate with the world does he lol
I really wish they based an entire album off of that moody vibe of gas panic. Such a great track.
They did!
Roll it Over, Let’s all Make Believe and a couple of tracks off Heathen Chemistry have that vibe. I think they’d have been better off combining the best tracks from SOTSOG and Heathen Chemistry and making one great album. It could have been better than their first 2 records
If only Noel G was willing to take risks...
I really wish they didn't
They kinda did. It was as good as it could be…
This is criminally good. There inspired to the moon and back here. The performing and attitude in it is amazing. They are tight and loose. My God.
Bone head was sorely missed during this gig and era. The body of his bar and power chords added so much to their sound.
It also meant songs like Some Might Say, Cigarettes & Alcohol and Champagne Supernova could be played properly with all the lead fills and riffs that Bonehead couldn't do. Also there's no way Bonehead could play songs like Gas Panic!
@@simongooch9201 did bonehead bone your wife?
@@simongooch9201 did Bonehead bone your wife?
It's definitely missing from Supersonic. Only song that sounds paper thin here. The rest all sound great
To anybody reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind may clarity replace confusion. may peace and calmness fill your life.
I'm stressing I just shared this as my happy song of the day!! 🤭Kx
Alan's drumming is powerful and precise.
The drumming on Rock n Roll star is just atrocious.
Been trying to find a good quality version of this gig for years. Mostly because of the way Liam sings the first part of the chorus in Supersonic. Just a simple change of note on the word "take." Does something to me, that one. Awesome.
Agreed!😊
I recorded it off the TV!!!!
What a fantastic performance!!! I'm especially loving that Leslie effect on Gas Panic. 2000 was such a rad year for art, movies, music, etc. The last truly carefree year and I miss it so bad.
same. Absolutely miss it!
Good music and art is everywhere, usually right under your nose in your local city.
Shoulder of Giants is largely a Noel Solo album. No Guigsy. No Bonehead. Liam wrote one song. All the music is basically Noel and Alan with Mike Rowe on keys. It was a hint to what would come in 2011.
@@DavidOakesMusic But not Whitey, unfortunately..
Vdd bem isso...
The guitar solo on Gas Panic is incredibly good. 👍
The guitar all the way through. Amazing.
this version of where did it all go wrong hits me different every time.. live long noel.
It’s an emotional masterpiece here & the best live performance of both that & Gas Panic! perfection.
Noel is absolutely on fire, as always in that period. As is Liam. Absolute joy to watch.
This time will never come back, good times ❤️
Saw them at the first Wembley stadium date on this tour. Was great. Gas panic is a great song. One of their darkest and most interest to my ears.
I saw them the 2nd night, they were terrible.
@@SgtTechcomDN38416Because Liam had just found out he was getting divorced and was off his head for the 2nd night.
Sotsog probably most underrated album among fans. The departure from punk to psychedelic showed how versatile Noel as songwriter
Excelent Album
One of their best perfomances ever! Great quality! Tks mate!
Who Feels Love? Is one of the greatest and most underrated tunes they ever penned, lyrically and compositionally its everything! The Synth & Tabla sampler intro followed by the opening lines "Found what I've lost inside. My spirit has been purified" Speaks to the Soul, even all these years later. Timeless! 🖤
You are right, it,s a masterpiece.
It’s a right fookin banger mate u ain’t wrong…that appregio with the rotovibe…then the big open chords come crashing in…it’s massive…the keyboard work is brilliant and fookin Alan whit cmon now lads if u can’t get it up for this one just jump off
Such an underrated gig, Who Feels Love is so good here! One of the best era’s of Liam’s voice for sure.
Absolutely mesmerised with supersonic
Bloody marvellous! Thanks for this! 👍
Ha! “Wonderwall” played on a telecaster! Excellent!
Shocked it was even the whole band, typically is was a break for Liam and part of Noel’s stool set.
great infos and description! thx for sharing! brazil here
What an absolute legendary performance of Where Did It All Go Wrong & Gas Panic! Also My Generation Liam is absolutely on it big time. For me it was the best live performance of these songs. Where Did it all go wrong is truly an emotional Masterpiece here. Wonderful song. ✌️👍✌️
I remember waiting for this to come on the TV, saw it advertised in Radio Times for like a week later and made sure I had got the ok from parents that I would be blasting at like 11 o’clock at night. I also remember finding it hard get used to Andy and Gem on stage, and not being Guigsy and Bonehead. Thanks for upload
Thank you so much for uploading this. Really interesting watch and listen. Probably the best live version of Who Feels Love I've heard but I dont think anything compares to the recorded version, truly an underrated modern psychedelic classic. Fooking love the rhythm section throughout, sounds like they are finding their feet but really drives the songs. Only let down is the crowd, don't know how you could stand still during supersonic and some of the faster numbers. Cheers again for the upload
Man, this is epic. Some Might Say and Don’t Look Back in Anger are by far the best live versions I have heard. Oasis in peak form.
I think some might say really took it out of Liam's vocals here he goes into the first chorus hard and his voice cracks them the 2nd chorus isn't nearly half as powerful he tones it right down
At the top of their game, they were untouchable. Phenomenal band
When the classic Beatles elements hits in the 90's.. Here comes the Oasis.. Love their music as well as the Beatles ❤
I am 71 and psychedelia punk/beatles who vibe is so intoxicating. I can listen to them to for hours . Anger and supernova are two of the best songs in the last 30 years
I can't think of another band that better sums up what a thrill it was to be alive in the nineties.
I wish I could have seen them live in concert...just once!
I seen them a few times from 2002 until they split up and honestly, bar one time in Aberdeen, thought the front of house sound was fucking dreadful. Maybe just bad luck but I think they sound great on the tv mixes. Atmospheres at those gigs were class though.
Excelent concert! Oasis sounds great, and de quality of the video its so good!
gas panic ❤
thanks for the upload, top quality
It's so sad yesterday will never come back .Miss that 😢
Magic!...Nice one our kid 🩵
🔥 YNWA 🔥
thanks for sharing
John Lennon on vocals did a nice gig.
24 years ago FFS where did that go? Superb as per usual Oasis. At least as I can speak as an old man and say I'd seen them a few times back in the day. Balloch Country Park has to be up there with my top gigs. Those were the days eh 😮
I've got this on vhs somewhere I was into oasis from the age of 8 or 9 when SOTSOG came out I was early teens, saw this wason the BBC and set it up to record , thanks for putting this on TH-cam!!
Wow thank you for this
Lol it's great skie
For some reason when this aired on BBC, they didn't include Live Forever. Had it taped and this was one of my only ways of hearing them play live. (Not everyone had internet at home in 2000 haha). Always thought Some Might Say and Supersonic sounded monumental in this gig.
Excellent quality!
Awesome, Thanks For Sharing ❤
🤟😎
Esto era MUSICA !!! Eternos Tiempos que No volverán🤘🎸
Volvieron
I remember taping this back in the day. It's aged incredibly well, in terms of the Standing on the Shoulders material.
I remember Gas Panic especially being the one I rewound most.
Gas Panic is a banger! Probably the last truly great song they ever did in my opinion.
What about The Importance of Being Idle a few years later?
@@coldplay8 sorry, I can’t stand that song.
@@mydayis5 Dang for real? ONe of my faves...
@@coldplay8 Yeah, not that much of fan of Noel’s voice to be honest. I like it when he sings ballads, Talk Tonight etc.. but for most of his other songs I always thought he should have let Liam sing them. This is in the 90’s obviously, because Liam’s voice is totally shot now. Owen Morris has always said he thought Liam should have sung DLBIA and that he thought Noel’s vocal on it was a bit ‘meh’ ……..but I guess the fact it was a huge hit proves us both wrong! 😂
They look Good here, great gig 🇬🇧
This is incredible quality for a video that’s 24 years old, how is this possible? 😮
Mega 💫I miss this music sooooo much every day I turn on the Radio 💥 Hope Noel get´s it again, would love to see Oasis ones again together
Thanks for sharing 👍
*I love you so much OASIS 💓Oasis is the Best band everr💓💓😭😭 MY BIBLICAL CELESTIAL ROCK 'N' ROLL STAR 😍 Liam Gallagher* 🛐🌌🌟
Oasis at the finest state.
❤ Liam team here
Best liam hair
Taped this and used to watch it all the time. Thank you very much. First airing of my generation too I think??
2025 is the year they’ll be back.
Marking the 30th anniversary of DM.
Wicked vocal performance. Cheers Liam
THE BOYS ARE BACK............Miracles do happen
I never realized it was the other brother singing Dont Look Back In Anger.
I'll never forget discovering that song. I had heard Wonderwall, and I managed to get a few songs somehow. I was probably 15 or so.
As soon as I heard Don't Look Back In Anger I was amazed it wasn't the song you'd hear repeated on the radio.
Great band, great songs. If I had to pick between Oasis and Blur though, I don't know which i would be :)
At this time they seem well rehearsed and ready for business. Liam sounds amazing!
Also, where has this footage been?! Epic!
Thanks 🇮🇩 Live Forever
Gran aporte... gracias por subirlo
I was looking for some actions, but all I found was cigarettes and alcohol... Best line ever 😀
Love this period of Oasis and thanks for posting that gem!
what a find. thanks.
Great song. And yes, Oasis at their peak.
O O OASIS!!! the biggest band in the world is back!!!!
LOVED, My Generation!!!!!!
This was Oasis at their peak..so fkin good man..Liam sounding and looking like a proper fkin rock star,Noels songwriting and arrangment was absolutely spot on..best rock band in last 50 yrs hands dowe,Noels B-sides absolutely smashes any other bands A-sides..love Oasis music
They look and sound AMAZING! dx
This is the BEST Oasis ever played together. They were great!
Skip to 32:40 for an instant hit of greatness and thank me later.
Amazing gig from start to finish both Liam and Noel are on it, this version of Gas Panic craps all over the album version.
Liams voice was sheer power!!!
Wow!!!!❤
Maybe the best momento of the band! Amazing!❤
Bloody Biblical! See you in 25! Got my overpriced tickets. Worth the nostalgia.
oasis are so overlooked as a really great band.
This is why we're mad fur em!!!! Epic show!!!
I love this show.
Verlos juntos es hermoso ❤
Liam's vocals are so good in this one
This is just too great.
Massive, unique, everlasting!
Wild watchin' this in 2024... I feel like I'd be gettin' the F down in the crowd, personally! Seems like the crowd can't comprehend...
This is pure
I know the golden era was with their first formation. But I think Gem and Andy made them sound very much cohesive and stiff, also more psychedelic. Hope if they reunite they keep the last formation, DOYS was a great record and they were sounding massive.
one of the greatest? oasis is the greatest of all time
I was 16 when the album came out, and although I could tell it wasn't as good as DM or WTSMG, I have very fond memories of those days.
this is rare!!!!!!
Who feels love should’ve been recorded like this. Fucking brilliant.
It was an incredible set I remember staying in rather than going to the pub 🍺 🍻 to watch it and recording it on vhs 📼
La mejor formación de Oasis por lejos, sonaban espectacular en vivo.
Oasis cambio el baterista y el bajista no varió mucho la banda
I have to say that Noel is just incredibly talented and I really love this one.. Great number WDIAGW.
