Yep! When I built my silent tower in 2018 Thermalright was the only reasonable option. Paired it with a sturdy Fractal Design Define (and their fans) case. All the fans are 140mm and spin at 700RPM with an office workload. I have to hold my breath to hear it within 3ft.
havent seen the whole video, but for me it looks like they just copied the 2 most sold air coolers almost one to one. so seen the video now. didnt see any thinking in the future, still just 2 copied coolers.
Can't believe I got Phantom Spirit SE for just over $30 back in July thinking it looks similar enough to Peerless Assassin from GN review +1 heatpipe, and it ended up being the best air cooler deal on the market. Good job Thermalright!
I was curious about these Frozn coolers, very glad you reviewed them! Man, that pressure line straight down the middle of the intel IHS is laser-focused! No wonder it does relatively so strong on intel while being in the middle of the pack on AMD, and no-wonder offsetting that thin column down does nothing, since the contact pattern would be pretty much the same even after shifting it down. Glad to see Thermalright has a second "budget but few compromises" competitor to keep it honest, at least for intel builds at the moment. P.S. looks like Gamers Nexus is *finally* going to start testing on both AM5 and LGA1700, not just AM4. Can't believe how long your channel has been doing it and how basically no-one else around is offering this content for months. So I'm looking forward to finally being able to follow the gold standard advice to look for reviews from multiple sources. But you guys deserve big credit for being the first major outlet to do it, IMO!!! Great job! (And their charts will never be as cool as your all-dB graphs, IMO, unless they feel "inspired" to copy it, heh. But I'll be curious how their insanely detail-oriented and voltage-locked reviews line up with these that appear to be mostly wattage-limited (?)) P.P.S. Best wishes to you all/the team going into the holidays and 2024 and beyond! Thanks for all the reviews and cool videos! Peace!
In my opinion. Buy the best aircooler you can buy and the best fans and it will serve you forever. I still have the original D15 with 140mm fans since the release and have no intention to change it until it supports new sockets. That makes it about 9 years already. Here is to 11 more 🍷🍾
Thermalright Phantom Spirit SE is still tough to beat in the market. Under $40 and it's cooling ability for that price is too good to consider other high price coolers unless you're going for aesthetics. But straight performance Thermalright Phantom Spirit SE is unbeatable!
I'd literally just got the TR PhantomSpirit SE delivered for my Ryzen 7800X3D build and watching the start of this video I was worried that I chose the wrong option. But watching the 2nd half I was relieved to have made the right choice. We need more reviews/coverage of these great value coolers to make folks more aware of the options available on affordable budgets.
Ive said it before and will say it again .. i absolutely love my Frost spirit v3, so glad it still remains top tier. Thankyou for another great vid on air coolers :)
Thank you or doing this review I asked Steve from GN to look at them, but he didn't want to. At least someone cares about regular people who don't want to spend 100$ for a decent cooler.
@@AquaLady153 Well ... This review is fine enough for my purposes. Now I can safely recommend the cooler, and give the review as reference. I guess Steve doesn't need more views on his vids, he's doing fine enough 😄
Just purchased a Phantom Spirit 120 SE and couldnt be happier with any other Aircooler. This thing is a beast. I went from 67-80c on my r7 5700x with wraith cooler to ~37c idle and ~57 under load. And its super quite. Like, legit I cannot hear this thing and if I didnt see the head cooler moving I'd think its not even moving. My 120mm Case fans are audible through front glass panel, but not this thing. It's just incredible, considering a friend of mine has r5 7500f with ID cooling se-207-xt and that thing is super noisy. I was ready to pay the budget cooler tax via the noise but was very pleasantly surprised with the result. Its just an insane price to performance product.
I've been using ID cooling products for the last 5 years. The performance to value is incredible, and the company seems to be genuinely excited about what they produce.
As per your recommendation I picked up a TR Phantom Spirit 120 for my new 7800X3D a few weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. Can't believe the performance for only £29... :OOOO
Glad ID cooling is making a big impact in cpu cooling. I got 2 coolers from them cause they were cheap on Amazon- before they were “well known”. Hope they keep their prices super affordable.
This is without a doubt the best PC tech channel ive ever seen. Ive been researching in order to learn how to build my own pc for a while now and ive learned so much from you guys.
Thermal Grizzly sells a standalone cooler offset kit, but you kind of just have to guess. That would explain Noctua's better performance on Ryzen though, since they include an offset kit, just like Arctic Liquid Freezer.
I'd really love to see where the Noctua U14s falls compared to the U12A and D15.... I trust you guys more than anyone else for these air cooler testings. Everyone else says the U12A is just as good as the D15. Obviously not...
aw man, i was thinking about upgrading to either a 14600k or 13700k and was worried my lil old SE-224-XTS wouldn't quite be enough for it, but i didn't like the aesthetics or prices of other coolers; i seriously respect the sheer amount of effort that went into making this video, particularly retesting every single cooler in your catalogue with the 4080, it is appreciated
For those wondering about the front fan placement... I moved the front fan on my DC AK620 to the rear of the unit, to avoid the ram confliction, and have seen no issues when when cooling a R5 5600x @ 4.85 ghz.
I have a DeepCool six pipe from my 4th gen on my 9900K. Cinebench R23 makes it hit just 70C. The twin tower has three 120's on it in a LianLi LAN COOL II white mesh RGB. On the larger unit, PUT A 120 ON THE MEMORY SIDE.
Bro is spitting facts😂. I bought essentially just a smaller version of the A620 for like R350 which translates to like $20 or something and I love it. I'm pretty sure Gamers Nexus tested that cooler and called it the best budget cooler🤔. So thanks for that ID Cooling I love you guys😂
Thanks for the comparison video, I have owned the Deepcool AK620 for several months since its release, and I am planning to upgrade to AM5. After seeing this comparison, I believe it can still keep up well in handling Ryzen 7700 or 7800X3D.
2:55 or idk, move the fan on the other side of the cooler? a lot of tower fans have the fans on the other side for a reason. it wont as neat looking but but that tends to be the tradeoff u need to make with these coolers
You're right about thermalright availability in india.. At least not at a price that makes it a better deal than deepcool. The cheapest dual tower air cooler available here is the cooler master hyper 620S, I'd say you guys should check it out and see how it performs as a budget option. Also, speaking of thermalright, if peerless assassin and phantom spirit are available at the exact same price as deepcool ak620.. Would it still make sense to go with thermalright? (For intel)
How is ID Cooling availability? As fort the PA / PS series versus the AK620, personally I prefer the LOOK of the AK620 but if looks don't matter then the PS120 is the way to go.
@@HardwareCanucks Id cooling availability is worst than thermalright, close to non existent... If i had the choice, i would pick ID-cooling a620, looks better than ak620 imo. The Thermalright Frost Spirit is a monster of a cooler, but impossible to get. Thank God I bought 3 based on your original air cooler roundup. I also have the Noctua NH-D15 ChromeMax Black and the TR FS140 rivals its performance. Actually, I see you can still get the FS140, but the price has doubled. Now it’s just another air cooler amongst every other air cooler. Therein lies one of the problems with these very good…..but excessively large air coolers. They dominate your build and I can get a 240mm RGB AIO for s similar cost that doesn’t dominate the case.
Aio is more expensive though. A lot more considering you have to change it about every 3 years while aircooler you can keep for a long fking time and just replace a fan if it goes bad. Plus aircoolers dont make annoying pump sounds
There are $40-$45 right now. Not far from Peerless Assassin or other Thermalright dual towers which are also in that range. As 4 Aio, it takes thought into mounting in certain cases. Some take a lot of work or less than ideal positioning.
I got a TR Peerless assassin 120se for 12700k cpu used on 3dsmax sketchup render build based on your reviews. All i can say that this cooler is well exceeded my expectations.
Thanks for the video as always. I don't want to sound like a hater or thermalright fan/amd fan but i find it quite disrespectful to launch a cooler with only intel in mind especially for this gen, because people seem to forget but intel is the faulty one with their bending cpu and they actually didn't change anything will relaunching basically same cpu as 12 gen 2 time in a row, amd cpu are easy to cool for cooler with a flat base like thermalright is showing and it is also performing well on intel so i don't really get it. Also next gen if those people change cpu and intel finally fix it's cpu there is high chance that performance will not be as good. Again it's not like hater/fanboy stuff just wanted to point those stuff out (also i'm not english, so there is possibly a lot of mistake)
If it was ONLY Intel in mind, then the AMD results would be unbelievably bad. They are actually quite good when you consider the prices here. I'd say they're in the top 10 around and if you eliminate the Thermalrights the Top 5.
all i have to say is noctuas d16 better perform really well because the air cooling market is so fierce which is wonderful for consumers. really hope that ID cooling makes a cooler in the future where the base is more designed for AMD.
I can't imagine it to be better than the a720 for Intel, seeing how Intel focussed this one seems to be, but at least there is more and more competition for the d15 now, while they could happily stick with the old design for the longest time. But who knows, maybe they postpone it another time.
Interesting that the FROZN coolers work much better on intel than amd. I really appreciate the in depth air cooler reviews you guys do. I didnt even realize before that you should choose different coolers depending if you are going for amd or intel CPU. Also the charts are absolutely awesome. Keep up the amazing work!
Man, my 13700K is still using the cheaper version of ID Cooling SE224XT, it gets to 90+ C with just one Cinebench run, I really want to upgrade to this A720 for maybe 15C cooler.
I've been considering ID Cooling products alongside Thermalright for an upgrade from stock cooling (Wraith Stealth) because i'm kinda on the fence of using stock cooler on hotter climates.
really interesting to see how more effective these coolers are on Intel chips than AMD's counterparts, even with the offset mounting kit. And happy Holidays too you! Love all your content 🙂
Thank you for this awesome information! Well done. :) In your first cooler comparison vid, I would have appreciated more clarity between Ryzen vs Intel performance since I almost used that for a Ryzen decision. But it seems like you're doing that now. Thanks. Thermal Griz is now selling a Ryzen cooler offset kit. Seems like many of these would do better on Ryzen with the offset (like Frost Spirit), but the offset kit is half the cost of a TR cooler (~$20usd). ha I guess the Phantom Spirit does better than the Frost Spirit on Ryzen since the additional heat pipes on it catch the Ryzen offset heatspot better? Idk. Thanks again!
It's a pity that there aren't AM4 temperature tests with them, The A620 is one of the options that I have on my list to cool a Ryzen 9 5950X and I'm wondering if they will suffer the same problems that the 7000 series CPUs have. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of videos or reviews on the internet with 5000 series as far as I have seen.
Hey HW, it is an interesting review, because in multiple systems I used FC140 performs way better (similar to d15) than PA120 under constant heavy loads on 13700k. Maybe your IHS is perfect soulmate for your PA120 or your FC140 is a lazy one performing like TR Burst Assasin 120.
Hard to get excited about more samey air coolers, but at least the prices aren't crazy. Heard what sounded like fan imbalance on the A620, but the A720 was better, both tolerable. However, I see no reason to buy the A620 over Thermalright options which are cheaper and perform better according to your testing. The A720 at least has a place as a beastly air cooler, but at $70 the Frost Spirit is still $30 less and performs similarly or better. The Fuma 3 is $20 less and is right up there, especially for gaming. Like you said, under certain temps it hardly matters, so why spend more for these? No good for AMD either. Just be careful with how hyperbolic you are in the opening of your videos. Can come off like a total ad.
When Can We Expect A Review For Thermalright's New Phantom Spirit Evo Air Cooler ? I mean we all know it will beat everything but i still want some charts ❤
@HardwareCanucks Aww man , when can we expect more reviews of new thermalright products such as their evo air coolers and their core matrix & frozen vision aios
I bought a ID Cooling Frozn A620 Pro SE the other day... So what's the difference between the Pro SE and the Black (and RGB), They cost more than the Pro SE (In my country).
Can A720 accept fans from other brands? Those clips don't really look like they'd cooperate that well. If possible, I'd really like to know how it performs when combined with a pair of Silent wings pro 4s.
It'd be nice if you could test the PS120 EVO since it's supposed to have better fans the the PS120SE - and fans / fan quality was your concern about TR coolers in general. EVO is more dollars but way cheaper than paying for premium fan replacements
thanks for the content.. its very informative. but my brain just freze with temperatue - noise graph. on 9:25, when higher temp has low noise not like graph cpu freq - noise , when higher freq has high noise...
It's not like other companies copying bigger companies' ideas and make it cheaper is a bad thing. I mean, for the end consumer, you couldn't ask for more.
Could you please make a review of the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO? I'm pretty sure it would be really helpful for a lot of people. Thank you in advance.
Thanks a lot for your reply! I'm in Germany, but I looked at Amazon USA and UK as well (didn't get an out of stock page, either).
Is there an Air Cooler that can take care of a Intel 14900k?
It's a pity that there aren't AM4 temperature tests with them, The A620 is one of the options that I have on my list to cool a Ryzen 9 5950X and I'm wondering if they will suffer the same problems that the 7000 series CPUs have. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of videos or reviews on the internet with 5000 series as far as I have seen.
Did you manage to find anything?
Hey HW, it is an interesting review, because in multiple systems I used FC140 performs way better (similar to d15) than PA120 under constant heavy loads on 13700k. Maybe your IHS is perfect soulmate for your PA120 or your FC140 is a lazy one performing like TR Burst Assasin 120.
Mike, you need to look at the newer ID Cooling IS-47-XT for super low profile coolers.
You can also just move the front fan to the back of the tower coolers to give ram headroom. Not that big of a deal
That huge one looks MAGNIFICENT
When Can We Expect A Review For Thermalright's New Phantom Spirit Evo Air Cooler ? I mean we all know it will beat everything but i still want some charts ❤
No plans to review another Phantom Spirit right now....
@HardwareCanucks Aww man , when can we expect more reviews of new thermalright products such as their evo air coolers and their core matrix & frozen vision aios
Your reviews are satisfying thanks 👍
finally an ID cooling review
Please suggest the best possible air aircooler for a 9900k 5ghz.
Im gona take a frozn a720, but changing the fans by noctua, i think is good combo
Merry Christmas !
Are you guys still planning to do the AIO round ups? Personally interested in an overview of the 280 AIOs (including the Arctic and EKWB offerings).
Yes. Though the 240mm has taken us over 3 months to complete
Can the front fan be placed on the back instead to have a dual pull orientation?
How does the cheaper cooler perform relative to be quiet! Pure rock 2
ID Cooling is the best budget air cooling, I use SE-226XT $33 and easly can handle i7 14700k.
Another EXCELLENT review of Air cooler!
P.S. Add NH-U14S in testing?
Frost Spirit seems to be the best for 7950 so far. Smth wrong with Frost Commander though, should be even better.
Peerless Assassin still kickin ass
Will there be a difference in temperature if the front fan is moved backwards A620 or NH-D15 with and without the NA-HC4 decal?
thanks for the content.. its very informative.
but my brain just freze with temperatue - noise graph. on 9:25, when higher temp has low noise not like graph cpu freq - noise , when higher freq has high noise...
It's not like other companies copying bigger companies' ideas and make it cheaper is a bad thing. I mean, for the end consumer, you couldn't ask for more.
can you do a review on the Snowman air coolers? particularly the t4 budget friendly ones?
How do you think the AK620 with Noctua NF-A12x25 5V fans would compare to the A620 or A720?
How would ID-Cooling FROZN A620 perform on a am4 Ryzen 5 3600? I used to run a 240mm AIO and never had temps above 65C under full load.
What about some ssd cooling reviews? With some of the options available and tests on pcie gen5 specially 😉
Any videos on the ID Cooling SE-207-XT Slim??
Sir, Do you recommend the id cooling frozn 620 for a ryzen 7 5700x3d?
Could you please make a review of the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO? I'm pretty sure it would be really helpful for a lot of people. Thank you in advance.
A720 amazon link is not working for me. cant find this product anywhere.
Why is there like no one reviewing the Cooler Master MA824 Stealth yet or even talking about it?
Big thanks to you and id cooling very good job 👏✨️
Can you guys look into Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO?
Maybe I missed it in the video (great work, btw.!), but the A720 doesn't seem to be available as of now.
Where? Amazon USA and Canada had stock as of a few minutes before I posted this today
Thanks a lot for your reply! I'm in Germany, but I looked at Amazon USA and UK as well (didn't get an out of stock page, either). Found it in Canada now, but will probably stick with the Phantom Spirit that I got yesterday for the time being (thanks for the recommendation, btw., and explaining the differences between AMD and Intel, offset mounting etc., it's much appreciated).
