- Pran refused to accept the 1972 Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award on grounds that the Filmfare award for Best Music should have gone to Ghulam Muhammad for the music of Pakeezah (1972) and not 'Shankar Jaikishan' for Be-Imaan (1972). That evening Filmfare awards went haywire. R D Burman was not even nominated for his songs of Amar Prem and Kishore Kumar did not win the Best Male Playback Singer Award for Chingari Koi Bhadke. The award went to Mukesh for Jai bolo be-imaan ki. Rajesh Khanna was nominated for best actor award for his performance in Amar Prem but the award went to Manoj Kumar for Be-Imaan. Pran received many awards and honours in his career. He won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award in 1967, 1969 and 1972 and was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. He was awarded as the "Villain of the Millennium" by Stardust in 2000. The Government of India honoured Pran with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 for his contributions to the arts. Pran was honoured in 2013 with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest national award for cinema artistes, by the Government of India.

Filmfare awards were manipulated, Rishi Kapoor openly accepted he purchased Award for Bobby for himself & Dimple Kapadia, Yash Chopra also purchased awards for Deewar & Sippy lost award for Sholay, Hum movie producer purchased Filmfare Award for Amitabh & himself. Rakesh Roshan did the same for Kaho naa Pyaar hai & Krish. Karan Johar did the same for My name is Khan. SRK openly told on Filmfare stage tht he tried to buy Filmfare award for Bazziger but was denied by Khalid the jury head of Filmfare.

Great show Mr Rahoul, loved every bit of it . Just shows sometimes how things can be unfair. Pran saab, may his soul rest in peace, was a thorough gentleman. In the artificial world of show business, such people are very rare.The versatility shown by Pran saab in doing different roles with ease, is itself proof of his superb acting ability. The whole episode of the 1972 awards has shown how the jury and the Filmfare people have been very unjust for reasons of their own. The credibility of Filmfare Awards has suffered to what extent, only the film industry people know very well.
I still consider PAKEEZA as a THE BEST musical film of indian film history till date and the hero was GHULAM MUHAMMED asst of NAUSHAD SAAB Do u agree with me salam.from.pak

Sirji frankly speaking I was never impressed with the awards. But was interested only for the fact because you could see all our lovable actors of those years. They were always fixed!!! Now I have completely forgotten about filmfare awards! Sad.
Greatest irony ....majority of us have never even heard of this movie baimaan , let alone the songs . First time hearing it here. Amar prem and pakeezah ....and their songs ...iconic and legendary. Goes to show how fake awards are. Kudos to you pranji....atleast one actor with integrity....hard to find then and now.

This is the first time have heard this movie, called Be-Imaan, and have not heard even one song of this movie. While Amar Prem & Pakeezah both were gems, so sad that the jury was totally blind to these two absolutely masterpieces. Reasons only the jury of that time can clarify.

This was not the only year when Filmfare gave an award to movie or artistes who didn't deserve it.
There are many instances in the history where artistes or movies were given awards which was not fair. Pran Sahib was the only one showed integrity and refused the award. Wish there were more people like him.

I personally think that the Filmfare award in 1972 should be given to the involved persons in the films AMAR PREM and PAKEEZAH. In fact, those films became more superhit than the film BE-IMAAN, even the songs composed in the two films are now very popular and most of the Indians have listened the great compositions, while songs of BE-IMAAN are not so famous in people and they don't even want to compare them with AMAR PREM or PAKEEZAH. Whatever happened at the Filmfare awards ceremony, those films are still on everyone's mind, and they will not remember the partiality happened in the event but the song "CHINGARI KOI BHADKE" rather than "JAI BOLO BEIMAAN KI", though the Jury did BEIMAANI to AMAR PREM and PAKEEZAH.

Frankly, I heard about be-imaan movie for the 1st time thru your video today and though I claim to be a bug movie buff, I was very surprised to know that it got 7 awards that year and I dont even know the name, well I truly admire what Pran ji did that night.. Looks like there were people buying awards in 1970's too ;) Shocked to know RD didnt even get a nomination for best music.. what a shame..

I admire and salute Pran Sahb for coming forward and speaking his heart out. For me Pakizah was and still is a masterpiece. Pancham Da not being considered for nomination for Amar Prem, is enough reason for me to consider FF as not fair. Rather , I would have liked Amar prem losing FF award to Pakizah but definitely not to "Beiman"

Filmfare awards are known to be rigged from many years. In an interview Rishi Kapoor even owned up to purchasing an award for himself. These awards have no value as they fail to recognise true talent.

How these awards were manipulated is an interesting story on which you can make a video. To be fair, “Jai bolo” is a fabulous song with terrific lyrics and outstanding singing. It just happens to be the only decent song in the film.
Yep also in 1970 film Pehchan also got all the awards. Very similar state with this. It has many good songs but it seems strange. I think that time both film were considered groundbreaking but in future they are forgettable films.
