    I live in South Dakota. About 30 miles to the east of where I live, there is a small town named Bristol, and it is a very nice town of about 400 people. I believe it was named after Bristol in the UK. Matter of fact, along the same highway we have a Bath, an Aberdeen (where I live), a Groton (which we pronounce GROW-ton), and an Ipswich. I do know for certain that my town (Aberdeen, population 28,000) was named after Aberdeen in Scotland.

      There are 29 Bristols in the USA. It was from Bristol (only port given a Royal Charter in the C15 to go beyond the Atlantic) that many explorers (native and foreugners) sailed from and discovered many areas there.

    Lived in Bristol since the 1970s. Was a great city but has many social issues over the last 10 years. I don't feel safe especially at night therr anymore. The horsehair and Cabot are very scary places during the evening. And as for transport most of the road network has been reduced by almost 50% causing huge congestion at most times. The clifton area is probably the nicest to live and visit though

      I remember Stoke Croft used to be dodgy in the mid 2000's when there were loads of nightclubs there. Now it's all gentrified with artisan over priced shops. Bristol starting going crap around 2009. I left in 2018 and visited 2 years ago, I just no longer relate to the place.

    • @bobbydeazy
      @bobbydeazy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@varthikes53 the buses were terrible and crime so bad in those areas they took the routes off as no one wants to drive it. Secondly its impossible to drive as removed all of the road access to the city so everything is funneled which means an hr from north Bristol to city min at peak traffic. Then you have the most expensive housing outside of London. Then you have the horrible gentrification of key areas and the wealthy students and those moving out of london whom have destroyed its culture in a matter of a decade. Its a shame I loved it here as the music and art was what made the city great. Now its regulated and priced out for anyone who int middle class and above. I'm lucky enough to afford here as partner and I in good jobs. Most of my friends have had to move out in recent years.

    While not a bred Bristolian, I grew up in the sticks outside and later lived in the suburbs and outer city for a few years before moving to South Wales. I liked how Bristol was in the 1980's, 1990's and 2000's (yes it was a bit grey and depressing but it had some interesting shops and a good vibrant, alternative music scene). Then in 2009 came along all the outpriced ingrates from London, lured by said vibrant music scene, which they ultimately helped destroy by buying Yuppie hutches above music venues. They helped turn it into a trendy, mediocre place, devoid of imagination and originality. It's now full of pretentious cafe's, pretentious shops for complete narcissists and is completely overpriced and overrated. If your over 45, there is nothing there for you. So just like other cities over run by Londoners, Bristolians now have to look to houses in Bridgewater and like elsewhere Londoners are universally hated!

I didn't even want to go to the centre but Hotwells area yet could not avoid the Clean Area Zone. I won' t be popping into Bristol again in a hurry. Driving is the viable option when trains are a rip off and buses are more unreliable then a Tory MP word. This isn't about the Environment but another way to fleece the public in the only viable means of navigating Bristol whilst offering no cheaper alternative. The council should have provided the park and Ride for free or very cheap as a compromise but no, they want their cake and they want to eat it. Bristol is just becoming another Little London because they have no problems with been ripped off and don't question things. Good little plebs.
