Have a om651 that didnt want to start. Since I've hasn't got Xentry I wasn't able to raise the rail pressure above the stated 250 bar ish that is commanded on idle rpm, so here's what I did. Vented the fuel lines one and when it struggled to start I ran it on break clean ( not motor starter ) and a lot of it making the engine rev up and above 4000 rpm for as long as 30 sec, this obviously pushed the rail pressure way over the command value. After this engine ran by it self but very ruff, took it out for a drive more or less flooring it during this time and turned the car off cleared fault codes and now car's running mint.
For me it was enough to just tighten all the bolts around the rocker cover to 9 Nm, and the leak was gone. Some of the bolts were completely loose. No wonder they unscrew themselves. with just 9 Nm, and just plastick to keep the tension. But this was after sitting there for 14 years.
I have the same issue i changed the rocker cover gasket at mechanic 2 times now, After aprox 2000 kilometres i notice oil leak again from same area above injector rail line cover. Did you just tighten the bolts up or did you do anything else like Locktite or silicone to prevent this from happening again ?? Any advise would be great
No any gasket maker is used. I recommend to torque the bolts three times. Because you will notice that after tightening all the bolts, center ones will be loose due to different tension caused by rocker cover gasket.

Actually the bolts came loose again after 3-4 weeks. So I bought a new rocker cover with a new gasket. And did the same job as in this video. So all is okay now. Its been okay for approx. a month. If they come loose again, I will try the following: The bolts are sitting in small plastic tubes, or plastic inserts. I will replace these with aluminium tubes, or inserts, and an aluminum spacer. No more compressing of a plastic tube, or insert, with 9Nm torque. But so far all is okay.Its been a month or so, now.

My Mercedes has the same engine as this (OM651) I had my timing chain replaced a couple of months ago and now my engine leaks oil near the back of the engine after they fitted a new rocker cover gasket. Should the garage cover the cost of repairing the oil leak? I live in the U.K.

There is one bolt in the aft of the cover, in the middle. Its very difficult to get to. Maybe they saved it for later, since its so difficult, and then forgot it...
First, you need to identify the causes of the problem. - Use a scanner for looking up the Fault code. - If you cannot find any fault code, unplug the injector one by one to identify which cylinder causes misfire. - If you identify the misfiring cylinder, you need to check inside the cylinder, injector tip damage or any fuel blockage that causes a faulty injector - If you cannot identify the misfiring cylinder by unplugging the connector one by one, you need to find another source other than misfiring.
I’ve tried switching them round and re coding them I’ve looked at fuses, wiring pins the plugs everything fuel pressure yet that’s fine just don’t get it

And then I opened and closed the injector screws one after the other. The engine became quiet and straight. But it works on the seat. And the engine doesn't start until after 2 organs. Now I don't know. Finally, I've broken something, the skaner doesn't work on mersedes or the pressure in the distributor is always low, which is why the felter doesn't go out. What they think?
You sure this doesn't include the part too? But sounds right, absolutely. Remember. Going to a workshop IS expensive. Taxes, workshop material, wear and tear of tools, "warranty" on the labor, expertise, this all costs money. Then on top of that, the actual labor and parts also costs. Professional craftsmen doing a professional job is EXPENSIVE. But it is a peace of mind for you, having a repaired vehicle. But you feel like you're getting fucked over, just do it yourself.
@@emilmoe92 that's just labour so about 8 hours seems excessive. Seals and new rocker cover is extra £207 so total £792 plus vat on top. This can't be right.
@@chickenpluckerman4890 Well, I personally (i'm a trained Mercedes mechanic) would spend a maximum of 4-5 hours depending on how bad it is. If the injector seals for example are bad, which you have to remove anyway to remove the rocker cover, you have to clean and mill the injector seatings free of debis and replace the injector washers. That alone can take an hour or so to get done properly. If the injectors for example are already leaking exhaust, and has been leaking for a long time, a lot of exhaust debris can build up around the injectors making it almost rock solid. That can take a long time to get clean, not to mention the effort of pulling the injectors out. Injectors can really be quite stuck into their seatings and a nightmare to remove. Then it is the removal of the cover, cleaning the cover surfaces properly, inspecting the surfaces properly, mounting everything back together. When that is said and done, visit another workshop to consult for a better price.

@@edismuratovic2664 Surely, that isn't the injector torque, that is more like the rocker cover bolts torque? I found this in my workshop manual; The injectors ; Stage 1: 15Nm. Stage 2: 90 deg. turn. Stage 3: 90 deg turn. These are aluminium stretch-bolts and shall only be used once. So I bought a new bolt set.

This bleeding method worked like a charm!

Bolts come with the rocker cover. If there's no damage, you don't need to replace it.
Actually there's no big difference between 9 Nm and 11 Nm.

Useful video, 10-11mm for rocker cover bolts, how about the injector bolts, did you replace or reuse them?
According to the workshop manual the bolts should be replaced with new ones. Tightening torque for the bolt is 7Nm + 90°.

How many hours should this take? Been quoted £585 labour which doesn't seem right.
