  • We take one year old Alexandra to city hall for some ball training. Today’s theme is working on the left, right, and center focused heel. We sneak in some barking targets and lots of fun.

I LOVE the way she prances when she’s focused on the ball. 🤣🤣🤣 So adorable!

I love how you’re always setting your dogs up to succeed, making sure they have their basic skill sets down, and yet challenging them at the same time.

I’ve been around dogs all my life and am currently training another. It’s both a joy and reassurance that we work our pups very similar. #longlivethepoohpups

What do you feed your puppy from 8 weeks to 12 months and what should I use for luring/training

take multiple toys, and treats, as well as verbal and physically rewards, find what works best for your dog note, dogs in these lines of work have high play and treat rewards as that's easiest to train with, note you will know what reward drives your dog has when they wont want to leave you alone when you have it, such as a toy or treat, a dog high in toy/treat but low in verbal/physical wont respond as quickly to verbal/physical reward compared to treat/toy ones for example my working dog licha is treat/toy driven but stuborn as fuck so she may be highly trained but if she decides shes done....theres near nothing going to convince her to keep going be sure to watch for various things like this and work around it a rescue is more likely to be stubborn

Can little dogs do bite work? I have a 15 pound rat terrier who seems to have the drive for it. Yesterday I even tested it by putting on a pretty thick coat and patting my arm and he bit it immediately and let go when I told him. I was pretty impressed and he seemed like he found his new passion cuz he kept waiting for me to pat my arm again!

They sure can, but it is not usually pratical. They can`t actually defend against a big threat and the bite work is directed for protection. Also, usually people respect a lot big dogs even if not trained, but most people will not respect small dogs. A small dog learning to bite really hard could lead to an accident since people are more likely to ignore it while interacting with you, or even with the dog, for example trying to pet it even if he doesn`t want to. I would play tug with a small dog, it is basically the same thing (fun) for the dog without the risks and responsability of directing the bite to a human.

I noticed all your dogs use collars instead of harnesses. Could you explain a bit about the pros and cons of them from your perspective Ive heard a lot of mixed signals on both.

How do you start to train the dog to not touch the toy unless you command? Same way people train to wait for getting food? For example lifting the bowl or covering it if the dog goes for it and rewarding imediatly once the dog waits?
