    Hello Fellow Amphaulics, Friends, And Supporters Of The World Renowned BBI AMPS: Thank you Luke for another Henry repair video. Even though this device was beat to death you brought it back until the tube took a dump. Great job as always, TMP, Unit 22 from N.J

    Dead tube for sure, took me 5 years to find a replacement for my H3KD. Guy that had it, purchased it as a spare when he bought his H3KD, never used it. His wife sold the amp and I got the tube, don't ask what I paid her for it. She went on a nice vacation with the funds that's for sure.

    I had an uncle that smoked 4 packs of cigarettes a day. I never smoked at all. Well when I was a teen, I only smoked one thing and it was not cigarettes. My son took one drag and said, yuk, not for me. And he has never smoked from that point. Now to that radio, wow talk about bad. One of my cousins gave me a computer well, yup a smoker, and it was so bad inside. Everything was brown. And the smell was really bad. Wow, I have never seen anything like this one. Man everything mus be secured. Everything. Inside the walls of that radio, looks just like the computer I received. Its hard to believe he was talking on that radio like that. Man, that could damage things. Just like that. This system could have ended up really bad with loose things inside.

    😊BBI is a top shelf builder in my book.YU 121 may have soldered pins& sometimes you can bring those tubes back to life by resoldering outer pin to filament ( think hollow leg) a lot of tube legs are constructed that way

    Take a look at the ceramic feedthrough insulator. The stud that runs thru it gets hot and oxidized and will cause about a 200 watt shortage in output power. The standard fix is the center conductor from a piece of rg-8 coax. The old type with solid polyethylene insulation.

    23:05 I tend to find that that type of rivnut/crushnut gun tends to buckle and bend after a while. The longer handled ones seem to be more durable.

    How much shipping damage is fixed for free at your shop after it arrives? And how much damage are you willing to absorb before you claim your losses to the shipping company? Have you ever got the full value of a unit after an insurance claim?

    • @BoxBuilderIdaho
      @BoxBuilderIdaho  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@hardhead7056 that's a pretty good question to be honest with you. okay first off insurance claims don't really work the way you think they do. I as the recipient of the package do not get to file an insurance claim ever. The shipper does otherwise usually the guy that owns a piece of equipment so 100% of the decision falls on their shoulders. Is this something that we can lightly buff out or is this something that is caused it to be a complete loss. It's entirely up to the customer and when it's all said and done they're the ones that choose if they're going to settle the claim and for how much money. And I never have gotten a check. The person that's in charge of the claim gets paid out I don't know what I charge to write up the insurance estimate. I cross my fingers and I pray to God that it makes it here in one piece. But good question. And yes I have seen 100% losses before. I had one show up where they literally ran a forklift right through the side of the amplifier. And in most cases when the insurance company pays out and they want the equipment back I don't know what the fuck they do with it but they want it back.

      @@BoxBuilderIdaho thanks.
      Do the people that pay out on claims ever want the product that they are covering? Like do they ever want possession of the damaged piece after the claim? Like a "totaled" car insurance claim.
      I got to to thinking. If there is a place somewhere that has all these "claimed" items. Id love to pick through that pile of stuff. Lol..

    I have a question: Why didn't you clean the inside of the tube socket contacts? Placing the hemostats on the contacts would only improve the connection on a clean contact. If there is a layer of who knows what on the inside surface that makes contact with the tube pin, no amount of clamping force is going to improve the connection. I saw the ends of the tube pins exposed so you could have measured the actual tube pin for filament voltage and that would confirmed that the tube was actually receiving filament voltage - or not.

    A really cool old Amp. I think it would have been worth testing the tube 1 more time with your step-down transformer setup. Just to truly get that reassurance. Those clasps on the socket are so old, they get hot and lose so much of their integrity over time. I know you applied more grip with the hemostats. But if the contacts from the ends opposite the hemos were muddled then it could interrupt signal. Maybe I'm just over thinking it. But I have a habit of double and triple checking things. Anyway, cool video, and nice job 😎👍👍

    • @BoxBuilderIdaho
      @BoxBuilderIdaho  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@renegadeclown8748 I did that off camera and I could not get the tube to relight. Which led me to the conclusion that it was broken. I also clean the inside of the tube socket finger stock and clean the pins of the tube it didn't make any difference the filament was broken on the inside of the tube from age hence the reason why I was pulling such high current it was like 5 amps over spec if I'm not mistaken

    I got a modified pen like that to change bulbs in one of our mixer consoles. Does Eimac not rebuild those tubes? they are still rebuilding our big ones but it's not cheap and we have started banking tubes for fear of shortages the last few years but not had an issue. Usually 20,000 tubes.
