I love that people in Mexico still have items repaired instead of automatically buying new- I remember when it was that way in the US. I hope that doesn’t change❤
My best guess as to the "swan" shaped item with wires would be a decorative holder for toast. I really enjoyed your visit to Mexico, thank you for sharing! And l am a new subscriber! So many beautiful, carved items! The doos in the Mexico City hotel were awesome! The red serape chair in the window was beautiful! Good luck 🍀 with your wood refinishing ♥️ Tom in Kansas City 😊🌻🌞🎉🎉🎉
I liked the furniture with the white bird carvings at the beginning of the video. Also, the first thing I thought of for using the swan metal piece was for toasted bread or to hold letters.
I just stumbled across your TH-cam channel. My partner and I have recently retired from the Antiques & Home Furnishings industry and relocated from Atlanta GA to Morelia Michoacan. I one thing I miss is Thrift Stores. We have toyed with the idea of opening a store here but are still trying to figure out the logistics of sourcing in the US and reselling here. My favorite item in your video was the vintage typewriter in your airbnb. I have that exact typewriter that my Mom gave me as a birthday gift years ago. I think it is from a company called The Fox Typewriter Co. They were based out of Grand Rapids Michigan which is where I was born and where my family is from.
@@roomserviceinteriors6190 Oh wow! Morelia is gorgeous, and my husband would love to figure out the same thing. 😁We still have a few years before retirement.

Swan wire - is for your mail-the envelopes are to added in-between the wires. My guess is when they added the dish underneath the swan is probably for the envelope opener.
Oh my word 😮 All that gorgeous carved wood 🤤❤❤❤. Thank you so much for sharing this with us it was awesome to see where you're from and how beautiful it is.
Yes to the door dining table - I live in Spain and I used to teach kids in very posh homes, and in one of the homes they had a table made of 200 yo convent door. It looked really sophisticated. And I'm adding the door coffee table to my inspirations 😊 Btw, my boyfriend is going to Mexico on a business trip, so now I know what kind of souvenir I want 🤭
Thank you for sharing your trip today! On my travels to Mexico I too have had a very hard time finding second hand stores though the bazar/tianguis usually will have stuff, but rarely great items. I have found antique stores but yes, they were ridiculously expensive. Mexico city has a good antique market on Sundays, but otherwise Ive given up on thrift shopping on my travels in Mexico. San Miguel de Allende does have a good salvage scene. And just about every colonial city has so many amazing antique pieces in their architecture like doors, lighting, etc. I definitely prefer shopping for items made by Mexican artisans, making beautiful items like the ones you showed. That vintage store you visited was amazing though!
I found great stuff really! Very unique, but I wasn’t willing to pay the price. Yes, I’d like to do another video but just in México City, I bet there are several stores there. My cousin says they have clothing ones. I love San Miguel de Allende too, and yes, I usually comeback with beautiful things made by Mexican artisans. 😊
Everything looks so colorful. Mi tía had a house in Puerto Vallarta but I was blown away at the high prices aye dios mio and we thought the goodwill was expensive 😂. Que bueno que te la pasaste bien con tu Familia 😊
@@oreobenavidez953 Mexico is full of color for sure. And yes! I couldn’t believe the prices, my hometown is not even a place for tourists so it must be the way things are priced down there. I think I’ll stick to thrifting in the USA. 😁

@@alexandra_sa_lazer I’m excited for you to visit down there one day! There are many BEAUTIFUL places! And I know this is controversial but there are many places that are VERY safe to visit. Fun video. I am Swedish and I live in Bisbee Arizona. I go a dentist in Naco Mexico the border is right there. but i was disappointed that there where hardly anything there. And the prices in the few little grocery stores where very high. Turns out that they buy stuff from Walmart and the dollar stores in the U.s and then sell that for double the price in Mexico. don't understand who can afford it over there. I sure can't.
Yes, I don’t understand either. And I know a lot of people that travel from México to the US to buy cheaper things. All I can say is that things that are expensive in México are cheaper in the US, like clothing and package food. And viceversa, fresh vegetables and quality food is much cheaper in Mexico than here, maybe that has something to do with it.
@@margarethowe3472 Awww glad you liked it! And you in know I would love to have a travel channel. It’s a lot easier on the body than furniture refinishing. 😁

@@christhompson3655 Cozumel is beautiful! The small towns I went are that…SMALL! Puerto Vallarta was the largest one, we would definitely go there again. 😊
I'm from Asia and here, buying antiques is more like an upper class thing, so the prices are relatively expensive. Maybe that's the same thing happening there? Anyways it's a lovely town and the handcarvings are crazy!

There are 2 sewing machines on my fbmp right now excellent condition for $50 and $75 dollars. Those are gringo prices. They think Americans are running out of the US to Mexico, Canada and any other close country. So up go the prices. I looked up real estate in places on this video. The prices are crazy!!!
The items are WAY OVER PRICED. thanks for the tour! For sure I don’t need anything that expensive. Really dirty. For that price the least they can do is polish them. The Mexican has become wealthy from their family members who have crept across the US Borders and send back money to their families.
@@seashells5181 Most people in México won’t buy antiques with those prices. What’s happening is that a lot of people from the US are moving to certain regions which is driving prices up. The locals are not very excited about it.
@seashells5181 You might be surprised by the amount of wealth “The Mexican” has, that has nothing to do with money generated in the US. It’s a big country full of professionals, academics, entrepreneurs, etc. And unfortunately, yes, there is a huge disparity between those that have and those that don’t. It’s only natural to want more for your family. It might also surprise you to know that most Mexicans have no desire to “creep across the border” because they lead a fulfilling life in their own country. However you will never hear that from a politician or the mainstream media on the US side. All it takes is one trip there, actually meeting Mexicans, to learn that they welcome you, but they don’t envy you.
I agree. Locals are likely not the target market for antiques. Tourism can bring money to a country but there are a lot more negative affects unfortunately.
