- Join me for a very special interview with Miljenko Matijevic of Steelheart. We talk about his new movie, Trust In Love, Steelheart, grunge, upcoming music projects, and the devastating accident that happened in Denver in 1992 that almost ended it all. Come along for the ride!
"Never Let You Go" is not just a ballad, it's one of the greatest ever written, with so much power melded into its beauty. I mean his vocals tear the paint off the wall in one of the greatest and most memorable performances we've ever heard. It's not a wimpy ballad, it's beautiful and potent. And I still remember playing it to my wife in my early days of wooing her and it seemed to work, and she still loves it.
Agreed, that song was just unreal... and vocally... holy shit.
Saw Steelheart a few years ago and Mili can still hit all those notes!
Yeah, that dude is a beast... and I think he's always taken care of himself, which makes a world of difference.
Phenomenal singer..
Absolutely.
Through everything steelheart rocks
What a fantastic interview. I'm almost speechless...
almost..😆
So good to hear directly from Miljenko about past, present and future projects. He really is (to quote you Mr H M Guru), a true survivor.
I cannot wait to see what Miljenko has in store for us, his dedicated fan base, and what name this new project he is about to launch will have.
Congratulations on putting this brilliant interview together....just awesome! 10 outta 10 dude!
Shit, man, sorry about the late response, and thank you so much for the kind words about the interview... seriously, it means a lot!
Congrats on scoring an interview! You're on your way
Hey, thanks a lot, man, I really appreciate it... seriously.
So sorry i wish the accident never happened 🙏 love steelheart
Yeah, that thing was just a tragedy.
I was on shore leave for a brief minute in Turkey and saw some cassettes at a store in Istanbul, Steelheart and Cacophony - Speed Metal Symphony were two that caught my attention. Never heard of either, bought them both, played the hell out of them for the rest of our cruise in the Red Sea during Desert Shield/Storm. I had a two hour radio show started at midnight, Steelheart got played quite a bit. Still one of my favorite late “hey day” bands I wish could have had a bigger run.
Shit, that's a cool story, man. And thanks for serving, Brother. Don't think I've ever listened to that Cacophony album, but I know of it--incredible players on it, so I should check it out. Hey, thanks for the great comment.
Awesome interview. Steelheart is one of my favorite bands. I got 5 albums from them.
Hey, thanks a lot, man, I really appreciate the kind words.
OH' My Love For Love Mili' ❤️❤️
Great interview ! Love hearing the Rockstar movie story !
Thanks, man! Yeah, it was cool doing it.
Awesome interview HMG….I love Steelheart, Miljenko & your ‘Hair Metal Guru’ channel 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Hey, I appreciate the kind words, Brother, seriously.
Good job on your 1st interview, brother! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this!
Shit, man, sorry about the late response... and thanks, Brother!
Oh yeah...That's what I'm talking about. Congrats on the 1st interview. He is such a multi talented guy & a pleasure to listen to. Quite interesting hearing his take on the whole music change of the early 90's. Next interview....Maddi Lane ??
As always, thanks for the great watch !!
Shit, I never even thought of Maddi Lane... but damn, that would be epic. Going to look in to seeing how I can connect with her, shit, thanks for the recommendation. Hoping to land something with Mike Tramp and gonna message Stevie Rachelle this weekend. Thanks for always supporting what I do, Brother.
Mike and/or Stevie would be great. Ted from Danger Danger or Drew from Wildside also. Looking forward to whatever is next.
Hell yeah brother! Congrats on the interview. Miljenko is the real deal. Keep them coming 🤘🏼
Appreciate it, Brother!
I really enjoyed this, guy seems genuine
Yeah, as we got into it it was cool to see him really open up about things. Thanks for the kind words, Brother.
That was very cool and interesting to hear his perspective on things. Hopefully you can do more interviews in the future.
Hey, thanks a lot man, I really appreciate it! I hope to do more as well, Brother.
Look forward to that collaboration with Nick of In Flames. I believe he was also part of The Doors of the 21st century for a while.
Not sure if he was a part of The Doors project, but, agreed, this should be an interesting collaboration. Thanks for watching, Brother.
Nice interview Guru!!! I saw Steelheart back in the day. Amazing band
Appreciate it, Brother! And thanks for supporting the channel, my man, it means the world to me.
@@HairMetalGuru419 always
Music hasn’t been fun since hair metal 💯 and mijenko is a top 5 hair metal vocalist imo 🤘
Agreed, and no doubt, Miljekno could hit notes no one could dream about.
I'll Never Let You Go by Steelheart was one of the top ballads I have ever heard in my life! What a song and what vocals!!
Amen, man, unbelievable song. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic interview 🎉🎉🎉
Appreciate it, Brother!
This is James Anthony I really enjoyed this video alot congrats my brother he is hands down one of my favorite hair metal singers of all time I love the first two SteelHeart albums I had no idea he was knocked out on stage he is a true survivor no doubt about it I had no idea he was the voice in the Rock Star movie either I am really happy for you Anthony you deserve this my brother I learned alot from him
Thanks, James, I appreciate you, Brother.
Just commented from my regular account... haha
Thats ok my brother@HairMetalGuru419
@anthonybryant3038 anytime my brother
The first Steelheart album is great from start to finish. "She's Gone" deserved a much better fate here in the States than its Hot 100 position of #59, and "Everybody Loves Eileen" should have been a stronger follow-up on Top 40 radio (it peaked at #34 on the Album Rock Tracks chart.) And I will gladly take grunge over what followed it - nu metal. As for the 90s alt-rock bands you claimed could not write a happy song versus those from the glam era - well Collective Soul (who is not grunge) did that with the songs "Shine", "Gel" and "Precious Declaration." There's also glam rockers Spacehog with "In The Meantime." And the Foo Fighters did it with "Learn To Fly" and "Big Me."
I love Collective Soul. And you're right, they aren't grunge at all. I wasn't referring to them. I meant grunge bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden AiC, Pearl Jam were never going to write a happy song, and I stand by that. Outside of that, a lot of bands were--Foo Fighters is great in part because of their humor. And, agreed about She's Gone--it deserved better. Anyway, thanks for the comment and sharing your thoughts.
@@HairMetalGuru419 Does the Offspring count? They did upbeat songs like "Why Don't You Get A Job", "Days Go By" and "Hit That." And STP (who are not from Seattle) did quite a few upbeat songs like "Interstate Love Song," "Big Bang Baby," "Lady Picture Show," "Tumble In The Rough," "Days Of The Week" and "MC5." Shirley Manson, Butch Vig and Garbage did the upbeat song "Special" from 1998.
Great job on this, Guru.
Sorry about the late response, and thank you so much, seriously.
Love Steelheart OG and current version.
Yep. Thanks for watching, my man!
Great interview bro you’re a pro!
Man, I appreciate that more than you know... seriously.
@@HairMetalGuru419 you did a great job. You did your first interview without fan boying it up. You asked good questions with good follow ups and you followed rule #1 of interviews… you made sure they got their plugs in without them having to bring it up! Once you get more comfy doing it you’ll get a good handle on the time thing. Got anymore interviews lined up?
@@misterknightowlandco Appreciate the kind words, Brother. I've talked a little bit with Mike Tramp's publicist--hopefully that will happen in the future. When Rikki Rockett puts out his book he's going to do publicity, and that should happen. Going to message Stevie Rachelle and see if he's up for it since he has a new solo CD to promote. If you have any connections let me know!
Super nice interview. Great vocalist for sure, crazy life story and now the movie. So nice.
Yep, the guy has a tale to tell. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.
Great video 🎉
Appreciate it, Brother!
Oh my goodness! Thanks Guru
Absolutely, Brother. And thanks for supporting the channel, Lucas, it means a lot to me, seriously.
yeah, I had no problem listening to Ratt Detonator and Nirvana then just like that Ratt was supposed to suck but I kept on listening to them and Steelheart and the others
I'm right there with ya, Brother. I never felt like I had to pick a side... but if a side had to be chosen, I was going with hair metal.
@@HairMetalGuru419 damn straight. Doing that actually made me hate grunge
my hopeful list of guru future interviews:
erik turner
mike reno
davy vain
drew hannah
Shit, me, too, Brother. All of those.
@@HairMetalGuru419 having interviewed some of these folks in my past, i think u did very well with mr steelheart. your viewership is rising, and this channel is well on its way. keep at it man…u are doing awesome!
15:00 It's odd to look back at how MTV monopolized a whole genre of music--rock--and decided who would be popular and who would sink. Meanwhile country artists like Garth Brooks were selling millions without MTV airplay.
Yeah, it was a strange period in music, no doubt. Hey, thanks for watching, man.
Never Let You Go.
Beginning wave of the fast decline of hard rock of the era.
Nothing against the song but weren't we all getting burnt out from these rock ballads?
Everyone knows I love ballads, but you're absolutely right. That's why I asked Miljenko in the interview if he was concerned about being labeled a ballad band--most bands hoped to have a rock hit before the ballad, but having a ballad be your only hit was like a death knell--ask Saigon Kick and many other bands. Thanks for making a great point.

Yep, we're building up slowly but surely! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel, I appreciate it... seriously.
Steelheart were great but about 4 years too late to the game. They would have been big if the 1st album came out in 1986/87. "Tangled in Reins' is a f'ing masterpiece and as much as I love Mijenko, they is no Steelheart w/o Chris.
Yeah, 1990 was a little too late to the party. And agreed on Tangled in Reins. Thanks for watching!
