  • www.VideoJoeKno... Do this FIRST before removing carpet pad & you will be fine. Don't do what Joe wants
    to show you & your carpet pad will not come out as easily or quickly. Hey it's your choice. Joe wants to show you
    how easy it is to remove carpet pad but first, you should do this. Can a DIY'er remove his old carpet, carpet pad,
    & old tack strip? YES! Joe wants to show you the next step in the cycle & it's removing the carpet pad. Here we go.

    This video should be called “how to cut tape with a knife”.

      Good idea you have. I found though that what I show happens to work for me so I thought it would help others.

    I was hoping that you would show how to deal with the staple. I found a small tack puller with a handle like a screwdriver and worked back and forth along the length of the roll as I went but it was tedious. But it was even worse if I tore the padding through the staples.

      I know what you mean! I just take a pair of electrical dikes & grab one edge & twist up. come right out but tedious as you say.

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use wire cutters & grab edge like you say then twist it & it pulls right out. Very tedious though but what choice do you have. The guys who install the carpet pad that way don't seem to care how many staples they put in...right?!! They are probably grinning thinking of the poor saps (you & I) who are the lucky ones to have to remove them! LOL

    What would have happened if you pulled the pad with cutting the tape? Thanks for the video.

      I don't know as I do all this stuff on my own & it's just a no brainer to go around & score the tape before starting the carpet pad removal. works waaay easier you'll see. At least try it next time!

      @@barrynzay Thanks for your reply! I really don't work on carpet demo much only when I have to & since that video I have only had to remove carpet one other time in the last ten years but for me (an average Joe) I just find that cutting the tape first helps me that's all. I thought it would help others too so that was why I made this video years ago.

      I always do this & it seems to help me. Mind you I very seldom remove old carpet s & old pad but when I do, if it has masking tape on the seams then of course I cut with sharp drywall knife even if I don't make a video.!

      You and barrynzay had the best comments. He said "Way to drag it out for nothing."
      This type of video ranks up their with my other favorite - the shaky hand-held camera that makes you nauseous watching.

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hope you got the jest of it anyway & even if it took a few minutes longer to show & explain, I'm sure you will make that up in cost of labor from removing the carpet pad this way.

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If a professional carpet installer was making this video they would decide they don't have time to make a vide as time is money so chances are you won't be finding any of those on TH-cam so you get an average Joe showing you how to save money around the house.

      Ha did you read the title? I do this first thing prior to ever removing carpet pad so the pad comes out without it tearing all up. How did your project come out?

      @VideoJoeKnows  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      LMAO I tell you though I always cut the tape line first before removing the pad or else the pads rips up in all kinds of directions rather than big pieces at a time I can roll up. You'll see....

      I thought this was a good idea since I've tried to rip out old carpet pad before & it rips up all wonky if you don't cut the tape on the lines of the carpet pad first....really!

    • @VideoJoeKnows

      I can tell YOU I did not waste any time removing this old carpet pad once I cut all the masking tape like I show. I wonder why viewers don't think this was a good idea? If you don't cut the tape then the old pad rips in all kinds of directions making it difficult to roll up evenly to make it easier to roll up & haul away?!!

      LMAO I thought I gave some good advice here since when you don't score the tape lines first then your pad pulls up in strips & takes forever. That's why I thought I would make this video. I think lots of people like it but not you! Sorry!
