Hello, Bhante. Thank you for this video. Do you have any tips on how to effectively penetrate through the idea of self? I reflect often on the various causes and conditions that have resulted in this current life, the 4 elements I am composed of, and the fact that I have no control over this body of mine and its thoughts and feelings, but still I struggle to break free from the idea of ego, self.
Thank you for watching and your comments. I will talk about this in a Q&A's video coming soon. th-cam.com/play/PLiX6s1kV1fRMCQyR6F7b6HxXuBUn9Zgck.html&si=7nWb2Y5dT2JpZjzj Be happy and stay well.
I have quite a few questions regarding Buddhism and meditation, so if anyone is feeling particularly helpful please help me out with a question or two First I want to start this off by saying that I’ve struggled with religion for a long time. I’ve grown up in a Christian household, although I don’t entirely believe in Christianity. I have my problems with it, but I also have my fair share of hopes with it - although that’s besides the point. A religion/belief I almost fully believe in is the spiritual side of the world (I don’t know the proper name for it, or what it entails, I just have a certain image of the afterlife and the world that I’ve obtained through life experiences which I can only describe as ‘spiritual’) So my first question would be what really is that feeling/belief? I don’t know how best to describe it so if someone could try to better explain what I’m thinking of that would help a lot - for a visual just watch tools music video “parabola” and that can give a pretty decent description Second of all, I believe greatly in the power of meditation, I know family members who have achieved incredibly things simply through meditating, so I know for a fact that it does hold real power - I just personally don’t know how to achieve that. I’ve heard people tell me to watch my thoughts as I meditate, I’ve heard people tell me to shut my mind off while I meditate, so I honestly don’t even know where to start. I don’t know if I should worry about my breathing or breathe normally I’m interested in Buddhism but I don’t know any Buddhists personally, and I don’t really like finding information online since it’s harder for me to get a grasp of what they believe and what they experience - facts about what someone practices are different than what those practices have done for them, or why they follow it in the first place I’d like to know where to start regarding meditation and furthering a spiritual journey, since I’ve tried before but whenever I’m started I’m overloaded by information in a different language, with a different reality than I’ve experienced and grown up around, so it’s really hard for me to really learn much I use substances, nothing major or life threatening, but it’s not something I really want to give up. I don’t know if this would block progress in certain aspects or if it’s something that cant coexist with Buddhist beliefs. Are chakras real, or more of a metaphorical thing? Like do they genuinely, provably exist or is it more of a term used to describe steps in a journey rather than something you actually step towards I have plenty more, but I feel like those are the basics, but most importantly I’d just like resources to help me learn more. Something easy to understand for me to get into, and something that encompasses the whole belief system while explaining it all in a way that’s simple enough to wrap my head around. Whatever resources have helped you guys, please let me know. Unfortunately, I can’t join a temple (idk if they’re called temples or church’s or something different), since I’m extremely busy in my day to day and the closest one to me is about two hours away, so it’s not really feasible with my schedule. I’d also like to practice my beliefs alone to see if it’s something that I truly connect with before I meet with groups to help me practice these beliefs better. Anything helps, huge thanks to anyone for the help and I wish you all peace
