My engineering mentor would frequently say "don't confuse me with data, show me the graph." This video shows downswing graphs of force onto foot plates that is common to some 100 tour players. The graphs define three stages of the downswing sequence, and where each of these take place. The relationship between post up and release and the clubhead velocity it generates, completely clarifies the swing. This video is the among the best in golf on TH-cam. Very well explained. Thank you.
Great for Dr. Scott Lynn in acknowledging that a single method of swinging a club for all people is incomplete and can be harmful. In writing THE PGA TEACHING MANUAL I cited this important quote from a Hindu Philosopher...."This is my way, what is your way? There is no Thee way." Dr. Gary Wiren
Yes, we can praise a toddler he did an excellent job by driving 50Y. We still can praise my 85 years old uncle for driving 160Y. I would be very happy if I ,70 years old, drived more than 200Y. However, as Ben Hogan said: Everyone can learn my swing easily. Look at the present PGA tour, almost every player plays with Ben Hogan swing, Stack & Tilt is out of the scene,. even no body play as Tiger Woods's left side dominant swing since his comeback. Like a sales person, the coach has to tell me what choices I may have. Not just give me something and tell me that is the only thing I can have.
Chuck took all his body mechanics from Alison Theitje, especially the scapula glide movement for starting the backswing. I couldn't learn it from Chuck's instruction but did get it from Alison's, which shouldn't be surprising since she came up with the concept.
This is further confirmation that what my swing has been missing is the vertical aspect. It has always been there, but too late and too weak. This may sound crazy but my downswing thought is now “jump.” Jump connotes aggression, and I like that. Your drill is the perfect way to discover the feel for proper vertical downswing component. You may not like the swing of a Lexi Thompson, but guess where power comes from.
my 2 cents ... looking at values of force, the money move here is vertical: 400 lb ft (vertical) vs 40 (horizontal) and 1 (rotational). Sequence the moves, sink in transition, and aggressively post up (and back) for power. SwingCatalyst data is very cool. No snake oil here - just combine with video and Trackman.
I think this guy's ancestors sold snake oil out of the back of a horse drawn covered wagon . Chuck should be grateful Gary Wiren even bothered to comment on this site . What Chuck should do is ; take Gary's quote and nail it to the wall in his kitchen . Then go back to selling cars ! Hello , Dr. Gary !
More tech for tech's sake? Just because you can make equipment to measure all sorts of parameters doesn't mean you should. What next? Skin tautness sensors? Now there's an idea ;) This sort of tech will just screw up the average golfers mind, encouraging an over reductionistic, quantized approach to a very dynamic flowing action. Imo it's like trying to enjoy music by looking at waveforms. I'm sure Charles Howell with make use of it though. lol. Then there are the differences you will see with knocked-kneed golfers vs bow-legged golfers. As a boy I remember a system which involved a light bulb on the clubhead and the use of long exposure camera shots. Those images (and trying to replicate the clubhead path) damaged my golf swing for years. Imo these are just well-known fundamentals put under an under an over-complex microscope. A well trained human eye can "see" the key stuff without pressure sensors and graphs. Some will make a lot of money out of it though, which bearing in mind golf's long history of "here-today-gone-tomorrow" now abandoned gimmicks is what it's all about? I anticipate this comment won't stay here long and will be sanitized with any other negative comments, but I just had to express an opinion. The best teacher/optimiser in the world is the ball !
I discovered the vertical aspect of the downswing through feel that was dug out of the dirt. But I like confirmation that what I am feeling conforms with data presented here.

Thanks for the clear and sound teaching Chuck! Excellent progression for learning the proper downswing sequence.

It would be interesting to see these graphs with an Indiana Jones level bullwhip expert, or a frisbee champion. I bet they're quite similar.
He may have good ideas, but 22 minutes? Way too long.
