My grandfather was a ww2 vet and from what my grandma would tell its that he never truly got over his trauma and he would commonly play Russian roulette to cope. So that Reiner scene just always hit home because the only thing that stopped him was the kids
@@MultiAlerocks it honestly was and what's worse is that he believed he would come back home a hero and showered with praise, although he was treated nicely and respected they never said anything about being mentally screwed up when they would come back from the war. Grandma would also talk about the night terrors he would have and that it was very common to have him crying in his sleep
On the train where Reiner spoke to Falco he just wanted to make sure Falco knew he couldn't just openly criticize the system. However, didn't really mean this patriotic talk and then said that he would have to protect Gabi from the darker future that awaits her and that Falco should be the one who should actually inherit Reiner's Titan. So the comparison at minute 4:20 didn't quite fit since he only wanted to protect Falco there, while he certainly didn't want to protect Porco Galliard.
Basically, he woke up to reality, but keeps playing the role of a patriot where his goal is more protecting and guiding the next lot of warriors like Falco. He also spouted the patriotic crap in the Warrior meeting to protect Porco but cutting him off and derailing the conversation since he caught on that they were being listened to.
I mean with how Reiner is I dont think its wrong to think he might have seriously been tweaking out for a moment but what you said is also my interpretation if the scene.
She likes to boast about how good she is about pointing out things but some of the simplest scenes like that one seems like she just read the sub and don't think about it lmao, this is the only away i ever interpreted that scene
I would like to point out that in the last episode falco told the one legged soldier that he "Doesnt have to fight anymore" Which is really funny once you realize he said that to Mr TATAKAE himself
I think the most ironic thing is that all the suffering Reiner endures? None of it is his fault, and no one (maybe his mom idk) brought this on Reiner himself. He's just THAT unfortunate fr.
I freaking love this episode. The scene in which a child who drives tens of thousands to death is filled with thoughts of his parents always makes me speechless.
I am quite certain Rainer never had any intention to ratting Falco out. I think he wanted to teach him a lesson to keep his mouth shut, so he wouldn't balbber those same words to anyone else, because there are likely loads of people who'd sell him out in a heartbeat. And what way to better hammer the point home than to scare the ever living shit out of him? "If you took out that titan"... Annie... that titan came from behind Rainer, but in front of you, meaning you saw it before him. Why did YOU not take it out? If that story of the guy who hanged himself sounds familiar to you, it's because Rainer and Berthold adopted it for themselves and told it to Eren later.
26:15 this story was such a small thing in the first season when Barry told it to Erin and Armin. But it is good to know that the story was true with some minor adjustments.
I don't mind that you hate bertholdt, it's just a little bit annoying hearing some sort of comment related to your dislike of him nearly every single time he's on screen.
So in the manga it was much more unclear who Falco was talking to at the end, since there isn't any voice acting. Reiner not killing himself cause of Falco is so sad. Someone who wants nothing more than to give up, but having duties constantly pushed onto him. Don't worry, I understand the "Bipedal" thing. It's clear what you meant 😂 Side note TATAKAE!!!!!! Another great reaction! One of the best reactions to the reveal at the end. The best ones are those that dont pick up on the voice actor or predict it based on the amount of time spent on this otherwise random nobody character. Listening to his monologue about War, Hope and Freedom you picked up on the vibes and then right as it showed his eye you figured it out, which is basically the perfect reveal! This episode has so many callbacks to things from previous seasons and things that were talked about. The old man's story is the story Bert and Reiner told Eren and Armin in episode 3, Bert's contorted sleeping positions are brought up by Jean at the end of season 2 when all the main characters are huddled on the Armor Titan's neck trying to talk Bert and Reiner into stopping. Marcel's reveal is why none of the four of the warrior kids reacted fast enough to stop Ymir eating him. They were all in shock. The three survivors ended up in the same refugee area as the original 3 kids who can be seen across the room. Unfortunately a lot of the story about how Bert, Annie and Reiner got to the wall was cut for the Anime, which makes it look like Annie passes out and they carry her past both walls they breach and she wakes up in Trost. This isnt how it goes in the manga which further explains how much of a shitshow it was without Marcel. They had planned for the 2 fast titans (Annie and Marcel) to take turns transporting the others to the wall so that neither was exhausted from the trip. However since it was just Annie, she had to run the entire distance through all the pure titans, as well as call them to bring them with them. Because of this she passes out once they reach the wall and Reiner has to keep her alive while Bert nukes the outer gate, then carry both of them up to the top of the wall, then climb down again and break the inner gate before going back to grab them both and secretly carrying them both to Trost. Annie gets stuck doing all the undercover investigation work to try to locate the King of the Walls and the Founding Titan because Bert and Reiner are not cut out for it, especially with Reiner's mental health. So she hates him for forcing her to continue the mission and because without Marcel she has to do all the heavy lifting alone. Thats when Kenny catches her snooping around. The fact that she found her way to Kenny means she had gotten pretty close to the Reiss family. Oh also they had considered having Annie try to seduce someone from the royal family or the nobles so she could get married into the inner circle with access to the info they were looking for. Annie happens to be between the age of 11 and 13 when they considered this. And then finally is the recurring major themes in the episode. Baby Reiner refuses to give up without having made a difference, then he teaches that lesson to Eren, telling him to "keep moving forward", then adult Eren talks to Falco and basically passes the same lesson on to him; that in order to make a difference you have to keep moving forward. Oh and my headcanon that is unconfirmed but seems hinted at both times it comes up; Reiner's mother pushed him to becoming a warrior not only for the safety of their family and to allow them to live together with his father, but she also did it as a sort of spiteful revenge against Reiner's father. I get the vibes that she was an affair he had that he broke off after he found out she was Eldian, and possibly pregnant. I think she then kept the baby in some part because she wanted to use the kid to ruin the guy's life for having fooled around with her and then abandoning her. She knew they would never be a happy family together, but she still fantasized about it in front of young Reiner knowing that he would try to make her dream come true, even though she knew it would never happen even if he were to get them both Honorary Marleyan status.
I binged the entire show like two months ago and got to the conclusion that Reiner has got to be the most unlucky person in the show and the only one who is actually cursed. Cursed with what? Having to witness everything. He simply cannot die. He wants to die, he deserves death but he can’t because of all he’s done. He is literally paying all the death and suffering he’s done by living with the consequences. Amazing character.
Levi has lived through worse life conditions and seen so many of his comrades and close friends die again and again, but yes, Reiner seems to be living the worst still because at least Levi has an active will to live and isn’t as mentally troubled as he is 😅
A couple of things that weren't touched on in the anime was that the reason Annie was passed out when they entered the walls was she carried Reiner and Barry on her back for hours running as a titan to the walls with those titans in tow for the assault. Also Colt and Falco are directly related to Grice which was the guy who got Grisha into the restorationist group. He was the one on the wall yelling at Grisha about why Zeke betrayed them. Colt and Falco are warrior candidates to prevent their entire family being sent to Paradise Island.
You spot the detail about the armband, at the end if you want the full enjoyment it should just let him speak all of it and to be continued, the feelings really hit different and after that just turn it back or pause (it's only a suggestion cause it feels a little bit waste especially for AOT)

Time to see Alicia completely understand and flip her opinion of these guys :) Isn't it funny how the most destructive titan, the Collosal Titan, has been entrusted to the two most soft spoken, kind hearted people on both sides? Kind of tells you how important it is for the user to have restraint imo.
Here's something my Dad told me as I was growing up. "You're a bull in a China shop. Everything about you is heavy. Be mindful of the shit you're around, if you aren't careful You're gonna hurt someone physically or mentally." Or something like that. I just remember being told I was heavy-handed and blunt as fuck. I'm still blunt as fuck but I can't change that.
About that scene with Annie claiming to be Kenny's daughter. She was obviously pretenting, since she was trying to sniff out the Reiss royal family, and Kenny was pretty close to it. Obviously, Kenny wasn't gonna buy such a bs, so she had to scram. It's anime-only fault to cut the dialogue and make the scene kinda dubious, although the og manga version explains this stuff.
we don't mind, we know what you mean by "bipedal" that's what matters 🙂 ps: Porco is mad because he wanted the armor titan for himself, i guess to fight along his brother probably 😞 we all know how it ended unfortunately .
It might be strange and you might be briefly confused on Annie's whole calling Kenny papa It's just a cover story so that her shit wasn't noticed when looking for the king's hideout
In episode 2, Reiner was not going to snitch on Falco. That's not what he was doing. He was trying to give Falco plausible deniability and know how Falco really felt about Gabi (who is Reiner's cousin btw). He was never going to tell on Falco, he loves and cares deeply about all the kids, and that's evident from just a few episodes
11:45 Bro why does EVERY dad teach you this? Like fr my dad and even my friends' dads all told them that "if someone hits you hit them back twice as hard" Which is crazy since my mom was the complete opposite saying "if someone hits your just turn the other check and walk" Sorry mama but I ain't no bitch. I be hittin' back 😂
Ya misread that reiner falco scene and it carried through :( No matter, to err is human. let's hope it got corrected during the editing. He was g checking Falco, he ended that conversation with Falco's original point "you gotta save Gabi from our dark fate".
Another thing I like is how this episode helps to construct Reiner’s implied dissociative identity disorder. As a trauma response, in the space of about 24hrs Reiner’s entire world crumbles which I would say is valid enough trauma to cause his mental split. From finding out he wasn’t born through a consensual love between his mother and father, to finding out he wasn’t supposed to be a hero, to Marcel dying in front of him; for him, to everything Annie says. The switch from Reiner to a newly formed Alter based on Marcel’s qualities we literally see, but we also see him dissociate from the moment Marcel apologises to the moment Ymir wakes up, the noise most likely shocking him back to consciousness. It’s likely that there are two alters plus Reiner. The depressed identity is Reiner, the warrior identity we see in season 3, and parts of 2 and in the flashback is based on Marcel, and then theses the identity he forged with the cadets, which could have been triggered by the trauma suicide of the man who told them his story, it’s why he adopts that story as himself and that’s the identity that makes jokes and has a crush on Historia. Soldier, Warrior, Reiner.
Adding into this, we actually see all three identities in the sequence where Marco dies. Reiner talks to Bertholdt, Marcel restrains Marco and gives the orders, the soldier cries over his friend being eaten in front of him.
This is unrelated to the episode, but I really appreciated the brief tangent at 12:18 and hearing about your experiences as a woman of color in the Esports industry. It’s cool hearing people with different backgrounds open up and be real. Also, I’m so sorry ❤
tbh, with the way the Marley brass talked about the Armored Titan being the Shield of Marley, it feels to me like they'd likely have favored Reiner anyway. Someone like him who was constantly espousing the party line and felt loyalty bordering on fanaticism toward the state would likely not hesitate to throw himself into the line of fire for Marley's ideals - a personality highly suited towards the Armored Titan, and a personality trait which Porco seemingly lacks. Sure he theoretically might be able to tank just as well as Armored Reiner, but it feels like he'd be more smug about it, and if Porco as Armored were to face the Fort Slava cannon shells at the beginning of the season, it felt like that smugness would break and he would have placed his own survival first.
(I am commenting as I watch the video, that's why it has so many edits, but it's done by now) 4:18 not quite that, that was a "you are correct 💯 but be careful of how you speak or your ass is gonna get reported" that he did to falco Of course he didn't say it like that because then HIS ass could have got reported 20:35 personally I do think he is correct in his assumption but from a logistics perspective, they would have to train another batch of candidates to get a replacement for these 2 so they would either live for a 2 or 3 years until the next people were trained, imprisoned, or they would let it slide because an imprisoned titan is 1 less titan on the battlefield and I don't think imprisoning the titan that is a reusable nuke is possible or cost effective and they can't set up so that if he explodes he gets crushed because if the titan shifter dies, the power could have been passed to an eldian baby from another country or in paradise and all that 22:38 I don't think changing your mind means regretting or retracting past statements, what you describe as "evolve" is just changing your mind about something that you previously thought, but eh, semantics tomato tomater 32:32 WHAAAAAT pfft come on no waaaay 👀 (hehehe) Small fun facts: the story of how the old man who offed himself encountered his first titan is the same one berry told when he was talking to Eren and Armin, when they show the guys guessing the weather based on berry's weird sleeping positions like they talked about in S2 he is in the position of the hanged man (the tarot card). Final fun fact, for anyone that doesn't know what i am talking about I invite you to listen to the song "apple seed" and google the lyrics, this song was first used in S3 btw
This episode really puts into perspective how much of a colossal (lol) fuck-up Reiner has been for so much of his life. The dude has been collecting so many L's his whole life. Even after adopting Marcel's personality and becoming more competent, we still see him gradually taking more and more losses and failures. Making several mistakes and having to be saved by his allies multiple times.
Ok wtf that’s just wrong coming from a Latino here Ok the way Latina and black woman act and calling it “ghetto” is just wrong Black And Latina women act tougher then their male’s counterparts is because in black and Hispanic culture they run the fucking house if they order us men to do something we better fucking do it Stay strong girl and never let anyone tell you otherwise
Y’know as sad as it is that Reiner is at the point of wanting to die is, I can’t help but find it a little bit funny that Reiner’s plot armour is so thick that even he can’t kill himself successfully.
Idk, Bertholdt lowkey just showed up and kind of fucked half of the Survey Corps, and went toe to toe with Mikasa, that's all he's done so far. I still like his character because I believe he represents a more "realistic" character in terms of personality, such as Matahachi Hon'dien from Vagabond, it makes me like Bertholdt more.
damn alicia has a really increidiblee memory for real, she even remember the armband thing this woman really impress me with her memory xd. also really deductive kudos.
A few things I'd like to say about this reaction; one, as someone who grew up in Baltimore, MD, you are not as "ghetto" as some people might say you are, at least as far as I have seen you, but since I don't know you as a person, I cannot be truly sure about that. Second, when you stated that war veteran Eren reminded you of Eren, I started giggling. You are one of the most observant people I have seen reacting to anime.
12:27 sounds like the opposite of my childhood, I was told "your a white man, even decades after it ended, they'll still blame you for apartheid, the government and schools will not give you hand outs and will blame any failure on you to save their asses, you must do better, be better, your not black, nothing will be easy, you will need to work harder, smarter, more than others to make the same as any black coworker". This was drilled into me at a young age, and some friends had it beaten into them, might just be minority things, don't fit with the majority and are often blamed when things go wrong and ignored if we do something good.
Wait what were those anime you showed at the bottom of the screen during your intro? Were those like potential future anime reactions? Are they patreon exclusive? Do they already exist somewhere? Also whoah. Alicia used to be a FGC commentator? That's so cool I had no idea.
It's kinda annoying how people keep hating berthold just because he didn't have much time to be developed. Through reiner's flashback we can see that all warriors walked through hell, not only reiner.
These episodes at the end of S3 and beginning of S4 really make it easy to hate the Marleyans and sympathize with the mainland Eldians, even if they were the enemy up to this point. When your one and only carrot stick is your hatred for the "Island Devils", it's really easy to get a warped perspective of the world.
*BEHOLD, the greatest glow-up of anime history!* Well, sort of. There’s one scene that makes Eren’s glow-up really hit, but that’s later. Imma just say, our mans is a chad now. Not gonna get specific, but he’s chadded up.
Wow. It sure is strange that there is so much shit around. And here comes a fan. Well, everything should be okay... I can't see anything going wrong, now.
With the knowledge of how the manga ends I never thought eren as the villain or anyone else other then those who were obviously bad and not trying to make things better for everyone
That’s sad that you were turned away from that in Japan and even the US. Race and gender shouldn’t be a factor in making decisions. I’m sorry to hear about that.

11:45
Bro why does EVERY dad teach you this? Like fr my dad and even my friends' dads all told them that "if someone hits you hit them back twice as hard"
Which is crazy since my mom was the complete opposite saying "if someone hits your just turn the other check and walk"
Sorry mama but I ain't no bitch.
12:43 HEY I got told that my entire childhood too! TWINS! 😂😂😭😭😭
tbh, with the way the Marley brass talked about the Armored Titan being the Shield of Marley, it feels to me like they'd likely have favored Reiner anyway.
32:20 The gears are grinding so hard right here, I can feel the vibrations in my floor.
(I am commenting as I watch the video, that's why it has so many edits, but it's done by now)
4:18 not quite that, that was a "you are correct 💯 but be careful of how you speak or your ass is gonna get reported" that he did to falco
Of course he didn't say it like that because then HIS ass could have got reported
20:35 personally I do think he is correct in his assumption but from a logistics perspective, they would have to train another batch of candidates to get a replacement for these 2 so they would either live for a 2 or 3 years until the next people were trained, imprisoned, or they would let it slide because an imprisoned titan is 1 less titan on the battlefield and I don't think imprisoning the titan that is a reusable nuke is possible or cost effective and they can't set up so that if he explodes he gets crushed because if the titan shifter dies, the power could have been passed to an eldian baby from another country or in paradise and all that
22:38 I don't think changing your mind means regretting or retracting past statements, what you describe as "evolve" is just changing your mind about something that you previously thought, but eh, semantics tomato tomater
32:32 WHAAAAAT pfft come on no waaaay 👀 (hehehe)
Small fun facts: the story of how the old man who offed himself encountered his first titan is the same one berry told when he was talking to Eren and Armin, when they show the guys guessing the weather based on berry's weird sleeping positions like they talked about in S2 he is in the position of the hanged man (the tarot card). Final fun fact, for anyone that doesn't know what i am talking about I invite you to listen to the song "apple seed" and google the lyrics, this song was first used in S3 btw
"I have so many questions!!!"
Sounds like someone is watching AoT :D
To answer your question about age, Eren and the rest of the 104:th are 19 at this point.
Ok wtf that’s just wrong coming from a Latino here
Ok the way Latina and black woman act and calling it “ghetto” is just wrong
Black And Latina women act tougher then their male’s counterparts is because in black and Hispanic culture they run the fucking house if they order us men to do something we better fucking do it
Stay strong girl and never let anyone tell you otherwise
Hit back twice as hard is kinda funny considering the show's themes
Wooow yeah fuck those guys. $2000 less that's ridiculous!!! That's som real bs. Hey you're doing amazing so just keep moving forward and do ya thing.
You may have forgotten, but the story the man who hung himself said was the story Berry and Reiner told Eren and Armin back in episode 3 of the series
GREAT REACTION (It came out 17 seconds ago)
Annie is right here
"What happened to our mans?"
Season 1 through 3 happened.
" holy shit thats so cool!" as annie is getting strangled
Imagine get whole episode about you and still everyone put Eren on thumbnail because of 1 min monologue. Poor Reiner.
Eren Jägermeister
Ok sorry, but I just love that meme
Oh nah, she pullin' out the fatherly advice 🐎✌🏽
damn alicia has a really increidiblee memory for real, she even remember the armband thing this woman really impress me with her memory xd. also really deductive kudos.
....
17:29 You’re going to totally be obsessed with one piece one day😂
I really needed to hear this. Thank you for sharing Alicia!
Eren had 5 years of offscrene character development.
"you give me protagonist energy" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Who is the bad guy, the real question of this final season
12:27 sounds like the opposite of my childhood, I was told "your a white man, even decades after it ended, they'll still blame you for apartheid, the government and schools will not give you hand outs and will blame any failure on you to save their asses, you must do better, be better, your not black, nothing will be easy, you will need to work harder, smarter, more than others to make the same as any black coworker". This was drilled into me at a young age, and some friends had it beaten into them, might just be minority things, don't fit with the majority and are often blamed when things go wrong and ignored if we do something good.
I feel sad for them all Rianer and Ainne are my favourite
i have never seen anyone spell Reiner as Rainer and Annie as Ainne.
@@Timotarius_ is ok brother 🤣
@@Timotarius_ have you heard of Raina and bertoto?
@@Timotarius_ Rainer is a normal variation of Reiner. (Rianer though, is not.😆)
Wait what were those anime you showed at the bottom of the screen during your intro? Were those like potential future anime reactions? Are they patreon exclusive? Do they already exist somewhere?
Also whoah. Alicia used to be a FGC commentator? That's so cool I had no idea.
Patreon
It's kinda annoying how people keep hating berthold just because he didn't have much time to be developed. Through reiner's flashback we can see that all warriors walked through hell, not only reiner.
Huh? Naw homie you need to see my earlier reactions to get it.
Who is this supeicious man's....the only way to figure out is to keep moving forward
Episode 5 of season four is one of the best episodes in the show
These episodes at the end of S3 and beginning of S4 really make it easy to hate the Marleyans and sympathize with the mainland Eldians, even if they were the enemy up to this point. When your one and only carrot stick is your hatred for the "Island Devils", it's really easy to get a warped perspective of the world.
could the guy who hung himself on the tree controlled by future Eren?
Reiner has literally just given up every part of him at this point for basically no results. Yet he keeps moving forward…
*BEHOLD, the greatest glow-up of anime history!*
Well, sort of. There’s one scene that makes Eren’s glow-up really hit, but that’s later.
Imma just say, our mans is a chad now. Not gonna get specific, but he’s chadded up.
Armored Titan 🙅🙅
Plot Armored Titan 😁😁
😢 am happy he ok
I thought it was funny that the emoji you used is almost the same with Reiner in Titan form holding his arms like 🙅🏻
I have a personal request: can you check you Pieck’s dub voice? Not like a full episode, just like a clip because OH MY GOD, HER DUB VOICE
I love her Turkish dub voice too,, absolutely incredible and amazing VA too! Turkish is the only real way to experience aot imo.
Yooo its Riner is Ants self inserttt 😘😘😘(kill me)
3:12 no biggie Alicia no one kool noticed😂
Why is this side character spitting 😂
wow thanks dad
Witch those advise idk how she did not get sued
Wow. It sure is strange that there is so much shit around. And here comes a fan. Well, everything should be okay... I can't see anything going wrong, now.
Great speech 😮
Reinner is the true hero and Eren is the villian
What are you talking about? The guy who murdered hundreds of thousands of people unprovoked is the hero?
Is Hitler the hero of our history too?
Clown.
Reiner is my favorite character, but neither is good or bad... at the moment.
With the knowledge of how the manga ends I never thought eren as the villain or anyone else other then those who were obviously bad and not trying to make things better for everyone
Konnichiwa waifu!!! Dang i like your red hair, and... what the hell is the size of those OPPAI?!!!
Thanks for the advice Dad, I’ll make sure to wash my ass
Remember... quadrapedal. 😂
Here we go 👀
Yeah I don't have a dad
That’s sad that you were turned away from that in Japan and even the US. Race and gender shouldn’t be a factor in making decisions. I’m sorry to hear about that.
racism still exists. its just harder to call out without being accused of playing victim
The way you were treated by the industry is wack. Not exactly surprising, but definitely disappointing.
I fucking LOOOOVE this episode, I feel like it doesn't get talked about enough. Also fuck racists and sexists fr fr.
I really enjoy watching your reactions and hearing your crack head theories have a good day
Not our man, anymore, alas.
Reiner needs a vacation.
