I like how we get both a Nazi Germany song and Soviet perspective song for the eastern front. The Soviet one (Great patriotic war) seems much more like a mourning song, or memorial for a long endurance from the great casualties and absolutely unpitiful methods of the nazis on Operation Barbarossa (shooting civilians and war prisoners, deporting the population etc), and eventually finding the strenght and hope to fight back for the Motherland. On the contrary, Operation Barbarossa (song) intensifies the feeling that Hitler transmits on "Mein Kampf": the german struggle for Lebensraum, the rush and urgency to make it happen, a "do or die" scenario: Germany has only a choice: to be a great power or simply not to be. As Hitler once said: "Mankind has grown strong in eternal struggles and it will only perish through eternal peace." Overall, I mostly enjoy this song over the soviet one. No biases.
the wehrmacht did not shoot, rape, or "deport" citizens without warrant. They had strict rules about morals and if they were caught disobeying orders they were sent to special detention divisions. Those who were deported were by the schutzstaffel, and most of them were partisans or disrupting the German wehrmacht. The polizei were responsible, not the army.

Three winters ago, Soviet forces conquered the German capital of Berlin. Now, with Hitler in exile, the Soviet puppet regime rules from the Krolloper. With the Soviet focus on the west, Japan has been free to continue their aggressive expansion, threatening our allies in the region. On the homefront, men and women have been working around the clock, producing guns, tanks, and supplies, to aid the remaining free nations of Europe, while building our own forces to counter the ever-rising threat of war. Should the Communist dominate Europe and Africa, and the Japanese in Asia and in the Pacific -- the the claws of tyranny will soon grasp for the light of American Democracy. Our attempts to avoid war have proven futile. The time for conflict is upon us, how long can the US avoid the costs of war on its shores?
